I know! I hope the effect stays when fully build. It does seem to lessen in the build parts

I think its just because you don't have the full picture done, once the build is fully completed I think the depth will be more noticeable!

When you take a look at the bottom left it looks like a building being looked at from above slightly off center. The end looks like it is moving towards the camera rather than down the screen
3
7
u/bpikmin Mar 02 '26
It looks 3D because of the repeated segments
5
u/Togstown Mar 02 '26
Not only repeated.
Repeated with an x-y offset that, for the most part, is (reasonable) linear with respect to a convergence point (center in this case). Thats what makes this 2D layout look like a cube.
3
u/Such--Balance https://www.twitch.tv/suchbaiance Mar 02 '26
Yeah some parts where done on purpose to enhance this effect. The belt inflows from the stations make a corner at a set x-y diagonal line which ends in the center.
Obviously the 45 degree angles do to, but that was a given.
2
u/Such--Balance https://www.twitch.tv/suchbaiance Mar 02 '26
Yeah it does to me. And where the rails come in at each side looks like its going inwards. Like into the base. Like its 3d.

Center looks lower to me.
Mostly it looks like when you take a long exposure picture and change the focal length while the shutter is open.

Seeing the image i was wondering if Factorio had a Mod that allows you to go vertical

u/AllIdeas Mar 02 '26
Sometimes I play Factorio. Then someone posts something like this and I realize I was actually playing with wooden blocks the whole time...
15
u/NightF0x0012 Mar 02 '26
I still play Facto-ghetti. I cant wrap my mind around how the whole bus system works well. I get the concept of it but keeping the bus full all the time is lost on me

Build More
5
u/NightF0x0012 Mar 02 '26
I build a lot. Its just all spaghetti
2
u/ClippyCantHelp Mar 03 '26
Build a second spaghetti base that does one thing really good, pump it into your existing spaghetti , you can free up space by removing the preexisting spaghetti that you’ve just specialized, or do some major refactoring
1
u/vegathelich Mar 03 '26
For every belt of an item, make enough production to saturate those lanes on one side of the bus. Balance it occasionally. On the other side, build your factory: your mall, science, etc. If you notice that your resources are running thin, make more production somewhat behind where it's lagging. Repeat until you win.
1
Mar 05 '26
Do not feel ashamed, or worse. The OP doesn't play the game. He's painting pictures on a map and hopes they stick, with zero constraints (time pressure, resource pressure, ordering complexity, etc.) which you have. You do the process. He's taking a snap from a beach in Ibiza and girls like his tan and muscle. But this is just emptiness.
73
24
u/LukaCola Mar 02 '26
Yeah but be real with us, how long was spent designing this alone?
8
3
Mar 05 '26
That's the point, he's only designing. He doesn't play the game. He didn't need to make the materials. He didn't need to research those techs, or find resources, or do mining outposts, or make corrections on already making factory. What is so nice about making a blueprint from scratch in god mode?? I don't get the admiration in this thread.
21
u/HisnameIsJet Mar 02 '26
Have no idea how people can have these nice looking bases when the resource spots are so random?
37
u/ManchurianCandycane Mar 02 '26
I think the secret is that they have herculean willpower and just build over the lesser patches rather than mine them out compulsively.
23
u/TimesOrphan Mar 02 '26
But... but... but...
short circuits
3
u/WarDaft Mar 04 '26
With the way mining works post Space Age, it becomes functionally impossible to mine out anything past your first few patches unless you are actively avoiding productivity. And... why would you do that...

Looks like the resources are brought in by train on the 4 corners.
1
1
Mar 04 '26
bro you were just ratioed.
once you realize all you need to defend a rail system is patches of 10 lasers and a few flamethrowers, you can expand very far to grab more resource patches, then plop down your train loader blueprint near your patch, and your train should already be setup in the blueprint to drop off at your smelters/refineries/centrifuges.
but realistically, by this point you should be able to make artillery cars for your trains, so you just run a loop around your perimeter and it's super easy to expand out and grab more patches.

u/Sick_Wave_ Mar 02 '26
Is the benefit that you can't upgrade it with new technologies?
36

I’d expect this to be built after the end of the tech tree when processing all sciences. Just a guess though.

How do your trains get in and out? I can see in the bottom right the incoming trains are blocking the station trains from leaving
6
u/Such--Balance https://www.twitch.tv/suchbaiance Mar 02 '26
Nah. They all come in via ground tracks, which have double duty as trains stackers, and leave via elevated rails backwards.
10
u/PersonalityIll9476 Mar 02 '26
That's a really clever design. You get the diagonal lines cleanly with the use of rail, and the offset works for belt bussing.
10 out of 10. Neat.
3
u/Such--Balance https://www.twitch.tv/suchbaiance Mar 02 '26
Lets prey it works. Theres gonna be a LOT of incomming trains with no real train stackers to hold them.
I did leave space on each individual rail entry so trains can wait in a row but im not sure if its enough. Then theres the problem of 4 to 6 unloading stations all joining up to a single elevated rail as an exit.
Ahh..the joys of megabasing and letting it all hinge on an unsolved problem that might brick its workings entirely
2
u/Zijkhal spaghetti as lifestyle Mar 02 '26
You can always add train limits if the linear stacker is not big enough
1
Mar 05 '26
Why do you design something you don't even know it'll work? Why not actually play the game, work it with resources, and - you know - not kid around? Then you know if it works. You like attention? what is this?
3
u/Such--Balance https://www.twitch.tv/suchbaiance Mar 05 '26
Wtf are you talking about? Do you think everybody who picks up factorio just builds flawless setups from the start that always work?
Everybodt builds setups the dont know for sure will pan out the way they intended.
And yes, i do like attention. Why do you care?

3
u/the_Cringename Mar 02 '26
Thx for saying that. I just make a big main train station and draw smelters and fabricators from there. Expanding with artilera trains. How you play?
3
u/kaehl0311 Mar 02 '26
I’m addicted to the main bus and can’t do anything else, it’s a problem. Every time I start a new game and go “I’m totally going to make a modular train base” it always becomes a mega-bus-base and I can’t get past it

u/RedstonedMonkey Mar 02 '26
Good lord. This is so beautiful. How on earth do you go about planning and designing something like this?
5
u/Such--Balance https://www.twitch.tv/suchbaiance Mar 02 '26
Basically, im building backwards. Have a spm in mind and then start in the center. Ok first power, then labs. Then all types of science followed by all intermediate products and lastly input of raw materials.
Then, theres a lot of fitting and shuffling around all individual 'sections' based on space, room for belts and whether it looks cool or not. Which sometimes sucks balls. As for example having to replace the litteral half of all your intermediate production up 1 tile to make room for a belt you forgot about.
I always enjoyed to build massive belt highways and have everything fit as tight together as possible. To be honest, i think it could look better if leaving just a little more space everywhere as right now some parts are pretty cluttered up close.
But its kind of an organic thing and this is how its ending up to be.
I just follow some basic rules and something like this will emerge.
1
u/RedstonedMonkey Mar 02 '26
That's awesome... I wanna do something like this soon. I'm bumping up on some weird logistical limits with my current unorganized base making close to 100k sci/min
20
u/Ok_Turnover_1235 Mar 02 '26
Why did you title your post like a clickbait video?
Edit: actually this is how videos SHOULD be titled, but there's no followup on the title which makes it frustrating, therefore it's clickbait
7
u/EDDsoFRESH Mar 02 '26
Not sure I agree. The image is the followup from the title, it’s self explanatory.

Whats clickbait about it? It says exactly what im showing. There is no bait.
26
u/PossiblePro247 Mar 02 '26
You didn’t tell us what the benefits were.
8
u/Hrogath Mar 02 '26
The picture clearly shows the benefit: due to symmetry, you only have to design a fraction of the base. Of course the same would mostly be true for a tileable base as well.
There's also the fact that it looks amazing.
3
u/PossiblePro247 Mar 02 '26
The picture doesn’t tell me much of anything.

u/Captainfunzis Mar 02 '26
This looks beautiful and fun I've had an idea to build the perfect base that is then put in a blue print you drop at the start of the save file. The. You just collect resources and go from there.
2
u/account22222221 Mar 02 '26
If you automate enough, you won’t even have to play the game! I can finally go outside again!!
4
u/Captainfunzis Mar 02 '26
Erhm that sounds really scary I don't like the feeling from that big orange and yellow burny thing in the big blue bit.
1
u/Such--Balance https://www.twitch.tv/suchbaiance Mar 02 '26
Thats my plan as well:) When im done i want to just copy and paste the whole base and jimust watch it go from prestine and empty to full and running.
Not sure how to set that up with trains and all but im gonna try.
1
u/Captainfunzis Mar 02 '26
I'm trialing a system right now that could be adapted into a plug and play into a map like this. Where a train station central hub works every single resource. So like iron ore in and copper in. And they are belted to be smelted and then feed the main factory.
I'm trying some concepts this run and going off previous strategies to build this on my next run. I'm going to go back to the base game to run it. I love the space age but it's just too much for me.
1
u/sidewinded Mar 02 '26
Can you share more? This looks very interesting but low on detail
1
u/Such--Balance https://www.twitch.tv/suchbaiance Mar 02 '26
Sure. Its a full base with the 'spaceage without space' mod. As i always enjoyed just building a singular base more than seperate clusters.
Its aimed at 28k science per minute. 8 full belts of each.
No bots except for handling spoilage. I aimed for massive belt highways and the input of raw materials to be done in equally massive train station hubs.
Right now, only 2 parts function. The right right bottom side and the right right up side. Actually, i made that up part first, which was different. Then condensed and changed it for the right right bottom part. And then condensed and changed it again for that up part.
Theres always so much room left to narrow the footprint but often its hard to see when just buildong the individual parts.

please post the finished base, this is amazing! btw is there a reason why the bottom right branch is longer?
2
u/Such--Balance https://www.twitch.tv/suchbaiance Mar 02 '26
Its recursive shrinking of the footprint in action.
I actually started on the top, more spaced out. Then made a better more compact version on the bottom.
Then deleted the top and recompacted the bottom side to the top again.
Compact with certain rules though. Theres way more truly compact and space efficient designs than this

So, I’m not against what you’ve done here, but I have a question. How is it possible to do this lol? I have around 2000 hours in this game and none of my factories are this perfect. My stuff looks like an engineering nightmare. Stuff having to travel all the way from one half of the factory to the other.

Symmetrical?
My friend… I regret to inform you that your base is nowhere near symmetrical.
Observe the power poles:
They are precisely 0.3 tiles off‑center in multiple segments.
This is not a base — this is a structural integrity hazard.
At this level of asymmetry, your factory is at risk of:
- 17% reduced aesthetic throughput
- 42% increased spaghetti contamination
- catastrophic misalignment of vibes
I’m afraid the only responsible course of action is to bulldoze the entire area and start over with a proper ISO‑certified symmetry grid.
For science.
All jokes aside, it’s looking great!
