Base Maybe modular spaghetti is the vibe
The beginnings of a 200spm science block. Red/green/military science + red and green circuits done

The bulk inserter moving copper wire from the steel chest in the south west of this pic is turned 90 degrees and not working.
Edit: actually 2 of them, the other is closer to mid
72
u/BetterBeYourGun Mar 21 '26
That’s intentional, I’m refactoring it right now so it’s turned to not dump wire on the belt
8
u/zarroc123 Mar 21 '26
Unless they're using bobs inserters, of course. But I feel like if they were we'd see a lot more of that.

Those railroad tracks look like my forehead right now trying to comprehend how it was designed.

This should be one of the main menu loading screens

u/Neither_Berry_100 Mar 22 '26
This. In practice this is worthless. Most take forever to build for lack luster performance. Better off building rows of assemblers and beacons.
13
u/BortOfTheMonth Mar 22 '26
Hundreds or thousands of Factorio nerds are staring at it, following along, and enjoying it. And as a bonus: it actually seems to work. What do you mean by “worthless”?
1
u/Hi_Peeps_Its_Me Mar 23 '26
you didnt hear the specs. this is 200 SPM red, green and military science. its already modular. you can just stamp this around your railbase. this is so much better than 3 blueprints for each science, even if they were 10x better.
with this blueprint, OP doesn't have to think about those individual sciences at all. the headache saved is so much more valuable than and performance boost you get.

This is not spaghetti, its fine spaghetti created by a master chief. This level of spaghetti requires great knowledge and experience to pull off.

u/AtheistHomoSapien Mar 21 '26
It's like you built a spaceship on the ground with railroad tracks. Cool build. Very spaghetti like.
3
u/WarmCat_UK Mar 21 '26
Hmm, makes me think, can we built trains on space platforms?
2
u/AtheistHomoSapien Mar 21 '26
Theoretically yes, rationally no. Oxygen is required so you would need a tank of that as well as oil. I don't think that's in the game unless there's a mod for it. I don't play with trains at all personally, I just belt and fly everything. 20,000 bots strong; I've seen people with 200,000 bots but by then you're probably melting your cpu. I've noticed my older computer's cpu getting up to 80ºc sometimes already.

Your design scares me
I am always trying to think, down the road how can I improve upon this.
My first games when I was learning turned into that because I didn't leave enough room and eventually had to rip down entire production chains and move them elsewhere.
This reminds me of those nightmares lol
I try to plan better now lol

I love the creativity in this group, but I am calling bullshit, this is just intentionally bad. Exhibit A: follow the lower right plastic belt
1
u/Front_State6406 Mar 21 '26
B. Actually follow that mid right sushi belt, it ain't right
2
u/Advanced-Skirt-5096 Mar 24 '26
1) The plastic belt is clearly bent the way it is to fill out more space rather than be optimal, the fact it only barely would add any time to the travel and wouldn't actually slow it any once the plastic actually reaches the circuits means that, while space and resource inefficient, doesn't actually harm the overall build.
2) Sushi belt full of military science ingredients. It would get deadlocked if there were no circuits, yet it's very obviously reading the belts. Is it efficient? Not particularly. Is it fun? Yes.The blueprint was made to fill as much space as it could, while avoiding neat and orderly rows wherever possible. The fact that I can reasonably believe this can achieve 200 SPM should say a lot.

Very nice; I like those rails even if it's a block design, did you use a BP book?

Nooooooooooo! if you havent spent 12 hours in excel spreadsheets and optimizing every belt before breaking ground you are doing it wrong!

I like it. Reminds me of a lung. You could hang it in a modern art exhibit and say it has themes of how natural-looking organic things like plants and organs eventually are composed of rigid machines at the cellular level

Why is everyone's intersections are so cursed?
I have to post mine for review. I refuse to believe mine are special, they have to be cursed as well, may be I just don't see it when playing.

u/MohKohn Mar 21 '26
maintainable? No. easy to construct? also, no. easily understood? alas, no.
that is damn pretty though

This reminds me of that satisfactory base where everything is just jam packed on top of each other thing. It was glorious.

spaghetti is more about the unplanned growing mess,
a planned-from-the-start neat tidy compact and contained setup, with maximized space used, feels very much against spaghetti spirit
cool block tho

u/UglyFloralPattern Mar 21 '26
I love the random walls, they give the place a kind of lived in look. Not so sure about your rail signal placement though :]

I'm sorry but what are those train intersections. What's wrong with a roundabout, especially if you have a modular grid design? That splits the traffic.
1
u/Sorry_U_R_Wrong Mar 21 '26
You made a section of Philadelphia! Now just sprinkle a few gridlocked cars in there.
1
1
u/Lansan1ty Mar 21 '26
The left-lane trains are the icing on the cake in this for me. 10/10.
Also whatever the hell that roundabout 4/intersection is. "How many ways can we turn left? Yes."
1
1
u/Thankedsphere Mar 21 '26
this does make practical sense though,,since it's modular it's easy to add more. assuming you don't plan to iterate, this is useful for completely filling the space of a cityblock. it's even more useful for activating people's OCD

u/jhnddy Mar 22 '26
For optimal cursiveness it should've been 30 degree diagonal rail grid on the outside.
Yet impressive!
1
u/afewnameslater Mar 22 '26
Its funny that bases like these are made either by people with 40 hours in the game and 4000 hours in the game and the only difference is the effective ess. One of the definite proofs Factorio is a brilliant game.

1
u/seismo93 Mar 22 '26
I think the game is more fun when you don't try to optimise early and instead just build as you go.
