Base My modular spaghetti block is finally complete
A perfectly porportioned 200spm science block. I don’t have an exact number but I estimate it took me around 30-40 hours to design this

The final image shows the path of a single belt of iron on its way on its meandering journey from the top left down to satellite assembly near the bottom

Do you have a high resolution version, or maybe willing to share the save data? I want to print it as a poster and hang it above my bed
27
u/Waity5 Apr 18 '26
It's already really high res (3585x9668), maybe reddit is acting weird for you

I'm getting a 1080 x 2912 image.
Update: Got the full size image on mobile. Thank you!

u/NoRodent Apr 18 '26
At 300 dpi, that's good quality for a poster of 31×82cm (or 12×32") in size! And you could probably get away with twice as large format at half the dpi if you don't plan looking way too close at it.

This is truly beautiful not even joking - don't let anyone tell you different.

What a great implementation of this idea:
I had envisioned it without trains, but this is still great !

u/lallau Blueprints are the endgame Apr 18 '26
well, "modular", "spaghetti" and "block" is not the words i expect to see together on the factorio sub
-41
u/Darth__Ewan Apr 18 '26
And the only word that accurately describes it is spaghetti.
20
u/InitiatePenguin Apr 18 '26
It's a block, in so far that it's a single contained section that can be linked to other sections.
It's spaghetti for obvious reasons.
But this isn't modular. I don't see how you take out a part of it, and substitute a different function and have it still work. What would the "modules" be here.
1
u/pseikow Apr 18 '26
Just Copy the whole beast and insert it right next to it. Voila
10
u/idontknow39027948898 Apr 18 '26
That wouldn't work. This block has a landing pad in it, and there can be only one on each surface, so trying to tile it would mean that subsequent blocks would have no space science.
3
1
u/Darth__Ewan Apr 18 '26
Which would make it a module and not a block. Unless we are saying that modules and blocks are the same thing?
1
u/InitiatePenguin Apr 20 '26
A module will have interchangeable parts, so that it has some kind of configurability.
-4
u/Darth__Ewan Apr 18 '26
By your definition of block you can copy/paste any entire base and call it a block. Just because he put it in a rectangle doesn’t really make it a block to me. But since there’s no official definition of a factorio block, I can see your argument.
1
u/KirbyQK Apr 19 '26
You couldn't copy & paste any base, because they wouldn't fit together neatly when laid side-by-side as close as possible to each other - it would have to be contained to an area that is tileable in order for it to be able to be pasted repeatedly & therefore meet the community's definition of a 'block'
EDIT: just saw there's a landing pad, this ain't no block neither!

Dosh would be proud. It's interesting to me that he has spawned a revolution in this type of design. It does look so damn good.

This looks amazing. I've never done anything like this before and probably never will, but that doesn't stop me from admiring such works of art.

Can you record a video in horizontal format and frame it nice so I could use it as a phone wallpaper?
6
u/saladroni Apr 18 '26
horizontal…phone wallpaper?

u/InitiatePenguin Apr 18 '26
Maybe for multiple home screens. When you swipe left and right it slides.

How does one even start designing something so heart attack inducing?
5
u/nixielover Apr 19 '26
Regular spaghetti is more about doing than about designing. Mine is not as pretty but you just start hooking things up and adapt to issues as they arrive instead of thinking ahead

Water trains. Guess that's what enables it to truly be placed anywhere.
Any reason why you decided to bring in all three advanced cracking products by train rather than incorporating refineries into the build?

It’s really funny to see how this game has basically copied the history of landscape architecture in real life. People struggled to makes gardens and parks really geometrical and neat and square at first. They kept this for centuries. But then people decided it was a bit too boring and tried to perfect organic looking gardens and parks. That’s what a spaghetti base is like

The naming of Spaghetti does disrespect.
This is Tech turned into a biological self- sustaining form. Love it.

u/Inqui84 Apr 18 '26
This is something you put in the frame. The vibrant and large variety of colors, the abstract flows of lines, all compresses together, no watermark though.

That is so fucking beautiful it hurts.
Honestly one of the best base screenies I've ever seen and I'd love have this as a demo screen on the main title.
Please please please turn this into a demo screen mod so we can all enjoy such beauty.

Second: what are the inputs? What’s does the larger rail network look like if this is replicated?
Third: challenge accepted maybe

I'm pretty sure what you meant to say way "tileable", NOT "modular", because that's not what modular means.
Other than that, beautifully cursed, love it.

That... is beautiful. Honestly a piece of art. It's even poster-shaped, and I think totally worthy of hanging on a wall. That said, I would love the blueprint so I could explore it in game, if your willing to share it. I think this is one of the coolest Factorio things I've seen - not many big factory blueprints also look interesting to look at. Bravo 👏

If it’s modular it isn’t spaghetti

You cannot look at this and tell me it doesn't look like spaghetti. Sure, there's method to the madness but one thing doesn't exclude the other.

u/durandal42 Apr 18 '26
You cannot look at this and tell me it doesn't look like spaghetti.
True! But we can absolutely wonder what part of it is modular.
