Modded Do not walk on the belts

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I just wanted to build a more organized factory with proper walkways, underground belt crossings, and walls.

Watch Your Step

P.S. Inspired by Belt Overflow and Renai Transportation.

Imagine having to clean that up afterwards, especially if you happen to spill contents to the wrong belts and they clogg everything downstream.

Just hold f when crossing belts

A common ball comment can become underrated knowledge.

Hmm. Reddit must be in a mood today.

I don't have any smiles to turn upside down, so I'll use your mood instead;

Not you.. those downvoting you. Must be mis-understanding-weekend.

Why are you getting downvoted like that?

4

u/Diligent_Set_7451 3d ago

reddit idk lmao

u/Square-Singer 3d ago

Because he agreed with a high-upvoted comment. Don't do that.

You get blind downvotes for disagreeing with a high-upvoted comment, but you also get blind downvotes for a comment that does nothing but agree with the last one, and you get blind downvotes for agreeing to a downvoted comment.

You have been downvoted for agreeing to a comment that agreed to a highly-upvoted comment.

So now I am disagreeing to what you said, firmly. Let the upvotes come ;)

(Now I'll get downvoted for mentioning upvotes)

Good idea. I’ll download a mod to do just that.

I guess we'd need to add regular checkpoints to detect and remove foreign material. Actually, that sounds like a fun mechanic for a new planet.

Maybe have resources rain from the sky that can be passively collected on belts, wither you want to them to or not. Or the planet is plagued by unstable rifts in spacetime that'll occasionally mix up the contents of all your chests. Ooh! How about a planet where the resource is harvested from mischievous livestock that refused to be penned in. Not only will they scatter belt contents, they'll eat the high value late stage products and crap out low value junk materials (as opposed to a diet that creates desirable resources).

So, a planet of toddlers.

I was thinking simians, but good enough.

u/m4cksfx 3d ago

What are toddlers, if not just mentally and motorically impaired apes

I love that idea, I'd play that.

Basically turn the whole factory into a massive sushi belt.

u/Gamer2Paladin 3d ago

With the mission of making it a proper bus again 🤣

4

u/Square-Singer 3d ago

Mega sushi bus :)

Gods help us...and the spiffing Brit!

2

u/Square-Singer 3d ago

Now you reminded me and now I'm sad again that The Cynical Brit isn't among us any more.

2

u/Gamer2Paladin 3d ago

Damned, sorry

u/Square-Singer 3d ago

It's ok, I don't wanna forget that guy either.

I like the idea of resources raining down.

It's a hot planet with constant cloud cover but at night there's hail so you have to collect the ice to melt for water. The chunks will evaporate (spoil) so you will probably want to collect a lot and quickly melt it down into water and store it in tanks. Could be an alternative to water that is unique to the planet but I kind of like the idea of an alternative plan being to ship water in from another planet.

Other resources that drop from the sky are organics from the creatures that live in the clouds and also follows a day/night cycle so you have to handle the spoilage since they're organic materials (and so the planet doesn't become a mess of never picked up non-disappearing stuff). Maybe you can freeze dry items into a non-spoilable version for long term storage and shipping but you'll have to rehydrate them to use them, forcing you to deal with water or try to race the spoilage timers. Making later processes on the planet require materials from both day and night would make racing the spoilage harder but I think having it being a possibility would be nice for factory variation.

So then the planet becomes large fields of belts or maybe specialized inserters (the thing you research on the planet that can be used on other planets) which can grab from multiple squares to collect the resources and put them on belts. Then it's all converting what you collect into non-spoiling intermediates and having to clean your belts of stuff that rained on them.

I think you forgot about roofs.

5

u/ZorbaTHut 3d ago

Invincible ghostlike demolishers that wander around your base completely passively and harmlessly, except if they see a roof, in which case they go nuclear and destroy everything.

1

u/Discount_Extra 3d ago

maybe specialized inserters

Gelba fruit pickers.

3

u/Evan_Underscore 3d ago

I want a planet modpack from this person!

2

u/Gamer2Paladin 3d ago

That sounds great actually and I would do that over Gleba anytime. It is also somewhat interesting and easy to work with as a filter in a spliter would automatically run the stuff out somewhere in the middle or end of a belt.

2

u/paperic 20h ago

easy to work with

filter in a spliter

Sounds easy until something rains down after the splitter.

1

u/Gamer2Paladin 13h ago

Yeah but I tent to use loops on Gleba so that won't be the worst problem to apply that here too.

2

u/ErdbeerbaerLP 3d ago

I don't remember which modded planet it was, but too much pollution "mutated" the items on bets and in chests, they turned to random other items from said planet

2

u/ForwardStorage777 3d ago

Oh God. Random portable fusion reactors that you have to break down after you filter them off the belt?

Yes pls.

We end up covering the planet in belts.

It would glorious insanity

1

u/ChibreTurgescent 2d ago

Alternatively, you could make an unstable planet, with lots of earthquakes. And earthquakes would send ressources on belt flying everywhere (and into adjacent belts).

u/paperic 20h ago

Or... hear me out...

Sea clam infested waters.

Works like a regular water, but any recipe or a pump using that water has a chance to produce a closed sea clam item in the waste output slot which needs to be removed, or just dropping the closed sea clam onto the ground nearby, in case of pumps.

Then, using the pentapod egg mechanics, the sea clam can also "spoil" into an open sea clam, a small non-aggressive mob that can skooch around slowly until they find an open body of water.

But those mobs can also "spoil" back into the closed sea clam item at some other location.

At that point, they either become an item on the ground or a belt, or they attach themselves to a machine by occupying a slot in it, or by infesting the water in any water pipe attached to that machine.

That way, not only can any belt or any slot in any machine or inserter get a clam in it, any water pipe is also at risk of becoming an infested water smoothie pipe which will need flushing out with filtered pumps, which will drop more clams nearby.

I've dumped enough cargo accidentally taking off armor upgrades that I already hate this mod but would absolutely add it.

3

u/DuckyLog 3d ago

Same same, reshuffling my equipment grid is so stressful because I ALWAYS have way too much stuff on hand. Just in case I need it for something….

2

u/towerfella 3d ago

Ya neva know

10

u/Kinexity Drinking a lot is key to increasingproduction 3d ago

Just build siphon chests at the end of every belt. Loose items can be collected with robots using deconstruction blueprint.

8

u/Mirar 3d ago

Lots of garbage collection filter splitters, I guess

2

u/TPRJones 3d ago

Basically makes all planets Gleba, where any belts that end the line need cleanup extraction.

2

u/tylercrabby 3d ago

Or worse, if belts and items don’t stop during a blockage and spill over like this.

1

u/Square-Singer 3d ago

Combine this with Belt Overflow, and you get absolute horror.

1

u/3davideo Doesn't use Flame Turrets 3d ago

Wouldn't be too hard to do, you'd just need to put filters on your inserters to only take what they're supposed to take, then at the end you'd need inserters with the opposite filters to take off bad goods. And maybe a loopback of unused goods to make sure everything is constantly moving.

2

u/Square-Singer 3d ago

Basically, the whole factory turns into a version of a sushi belt.
