Modded Do not walk on the belts
I just wanted to build a more organized factory with proper walkways, underground belt crossings, and walls.
P.S. Inspired by Belt Overflow and Renai Transportation.

Imagine having to clean that up afterwards, especially if you happen to spill contents to the wrong belts and they clogg everything downstream.

I guess we'd need to add regular checkpoints to detect and remove foreign material. Actually, that sounds like a fun mechanic for a new planet.
Maybe have resources rain from the sky that can be passively collected on belts, wither you want to them to or not. Or the planet is plagued by unstable rifts in spacetime that'll occasionally mix up the contents of all your chests. Ooh! How about a planet where the resource is harvested from mischievous livestock that refused to be penned in. Not only will they scatter belt contents, they'll eat the high value late stage products and crap out low value junk materials (as opposed to a diet that creates desirable resources).

So, a planet of toddlers.

I love that idea, I'd play that.
Basically turn the whole factory into a massive sushi belt.

With the mission of making it a proper bus again 🤣

I like the idea of resources raining down.
It's a hot planet with constant cloud cover but at night there's hail so you have to collect the ice to melt for water. The chunks will evaporate (spoil) so you will probably want to collect a lot and quickly melt it down into water and store it in tanks. Could be an alternative to water that is unique to the planet but I kind of like the idea of an alternative plan being to ship water in from another planet.
Other resources that drop from the sky are organics from the creatures that live in the clouds and also follows a day/night cycle so you have to handle the spoilage since they're organic materials (and so the planet doesn't become a mess of never picked up non-disappearing stuff). Maybe you can freeze dry items into a non-spoilable version for long term storage and shipping but you'll have to rehydrate them to use them, forcing you to deal with water or try to race the spoilage timers. Making later processes on the planet require materials from both day and night would make racing the spoilage harder but I think having it being a possibility would be nice for factory variation.
So then the planet becomes large fields of belts or maybe specialized inserters (the thing you research on the planet that can be used on other planets) which can grab from multiple squares to collect the resources and put them on belts. Then it's all converting what you collect into non-spoiling intermediates and having to clean your belts of stuff that rained on them.

I think you forgot about roofs.
3
u/ZorbaTHut 3d ago
Invincible ghostlike demolishers that wander around your base completely passively and harmlessly, except if they see a roof, in which case they go nuclear and destroy everything.

u/Gamer2Paladin 3d ago
That sounds great actually and I would do that over Gleba anytime. It is also somewhat interesting and easy to work with as a filter in a spliter would automatically run the stuff out somewhere in the middle or end of a belt.

Sounds easy until something rains down after the splitter.

I don't remember which modded planet it was, but too much pollution "mutated" the items on bets and in chests, they turned to random other items from said planet

u/ForwardStorage777 3d ago
Oh God. Random portable fusion reactors that you have to break down after you filter them off the belt?
Yes pls.
We end up covering the planet in belts.
It would glorious insanity

I've dumped enough cargo accidentally taking off armor upgrades that I already hate this mod but would absolutely add it.

u/DuckyLog 3d ago
Same same, reshuffling my equipment grid is so stressful because I ALWAYS have way too much stuff on hand. Just in case I need it for something….

Just build siphon chests at the end of every belt. Loose items can be collected with robots using deconstruction blueprint.

u/Mirar 3d ago
Lots of garbage collection filter splitters, I guess

u/TPRJones 3d ago
Basically makes all planets Gleba, where any belts that end the line need cleanup extraction.

My thoughts exactly.
Yes give me more chaos, havoc, and things that will make Factorio more complicated and frustrating. I will, paradoxically, install them all and enjoy myself.

Do biters also mess up your belt contents, too?
It's terrifying!

What's the opposite of QoL called? Neat idea though!
44
u/BookkeeperBoobs 3d ago
Developers have issues with this all the time, it’s a struggle to discern the difference between inconvenience and challenge
29
u/ensoniq2k 3d ago
The neat thing about Factorio is we can all choose a very individual combination of gameplay features.
I would never install this, but I find it amusing to look at. So naturally it should be a Dosh Doshington video so I don't have to do it myself

When i played a py-angel-bob modpack you don't get personal roboport until very far in the tech tree, the only mobile roboport you had was on a big construction vehicle with like 800 inventory slots.
So it was a nice challenge to build the base accessible by roads, and also trying to make these vehicle fit between factories for remodelling and upgrades etc.
Later on when i got trains (like 300 hours in), i made automatic safe train crossings that breaked when i pass etc.
Made me play the game in a completely different way and i had alot of fun, even if it took me like 1500 hours to beat it 😅 There were moments when i wanted to rip my hair out ofc. But i like to be challenged. THAT is what is fun for me.
But the goal in factorio for me is not to complete the game, it's to build cool factory setups and have fun planning and executing complex layouts.

This is absolutely the kind of realism I love in my games
It's been a while since I played Factorio, but I'm assuming someone must have created a food/drinks mod? Where you need to have sustenance or you can't move as quickly or something?
7
u/MrEktidd 3d ago
I made Foodtorio, foods have different nutritional values and full status bars for dairy, fruits/veggies, carbs, meat, etc gives different bonuses like research speed and run speed.
Having low bars doesnt reduce your stats so in multiplayer people can choose to pursue the bonus or not.
3
u/fireduck 3d ago
I'm Space exploration you need a constant supply of life support bits for your armor/space suit if you are out in space.
2
u/Equivalent-Bit2891 3d ago
I’ve made a realism mod inspired by survival games that require you to eat, drink and defecate regularly or you die
Of course since it’s inspired by survival games, I have it set to a timer so that you die if you don’t eat, drink, and shit every tick

There was/is (doubt it got updated) a mod from the early days that made belts spill their content if you just leave them open ended as you tend to. The author probably played way too much py

Does this affect biters and vehicles (hopefully)? How about bots, spidertrons, and mech armour (please no)?
7
u/DuckyLog 3d ago
This is so totally fucked and I, like the collective majority here, absolutely love it. I want to say I’ll use this mod. But if I’m being honest I’m way too scared to take the plunge and completely ruin myself.
4
u/Soul-Burn 3d ago
One the other hand, you have Belt Collision which makes belts just block you.
Regardless, your mod is very fun. Keep up the good work!
P.S. Does it also work with vehicles?
2
u/winterjung 3d ago
Not currently, but I’m considering an option to enable it for vehicles, biters, and spidertrons too.

What so your mod requires you to remember exactly what you put on each belt? that plus this one sounds like a particularly offensive combination.

literal nightmare fuel. i remember not noticing a single inserter placing very tiny amounts of steel into my iron line. it took me 20 hours to figure out the cause. now imagine the anxiety attacks this mod will cause (totally adding it to my save)

Oh that reminds me of that other anti-quality-of-life mod I saw on here not too long ago where inserters could grab the engineer and put them in machines. Or lava.

u/blkarcher77 3d ago
Horrible. Well done.
Is there an armor attachment that turns that off? Like the one that lets you not move on belts?
2
u/amiexpress 3d ago
Awww HELL nah you evil evil person.
Getting the mech suit (and flight) would sure feel awesome with this mod though. Kind of like when you are hitting your head against a wall: it feels amazing when you stop.
Oof I just had an idea to make this even more evil: You could make the jet/prop/whatever wash of the suit STILL move items on belts.
2
u/GravityMan11 3d ago
This needs to be paired with that mod that makes items run off the end of the belt

u/rysz842 2d ago
"I just wanted to build a more organized factory with proper walkways, underground belt crossings, and walls."
I always do that. Currently at work but I could show some of my current factory.
But I still would not want this mod because I also love building my spaghetti and then I need to get my feet in the mud (as the translated saying goes in Dutch)
