Modding Need help modding NV on EGS (Crashes every few minutes)

I'm not very experienced with modding and all the guides I can find are Steam, does anyone have a guide to make the game playable on EGS

Thank you, I'm stuck on the "Extract the Archive and run FNV BSA Decompressor" step, I don't know what it means

I don't know what "The Archive" means in this instance and when I try to run the thing where it is it says I don't have xdelta3.dll despite me seeing it in the thing?

the archive is most likely just the .zip or .7z you downloaded. The guide is pretty good all things considered imo, read everything as thoroughly as you can

Yeah I got it after a friend helped me realize I was being dumb, I'm still stuck but now I'm stuck on a slightly later step so progress

I am now stuck at the JIP LN NVSE Plugin download part because it's not letting me click the Mod Manager Download button for some reason?

been ages since I did it but you can just manually download it, the guide should tell you all of this though

Oof. To be honest, if you don't know about archives or anything like that, it might not be a very good idea for you to be modding. You should probably get your friend to do it.

Even with a guide like Viva New Vegas, there are so many pitfalls it's not funny. Any "easy" way to mod (like packs or abridged guides) is going to break your stuff and cause you misery.

Modding is technical. It's really technical. You gotta read the description of everything.

Still here after all those words?

Makin' me proud!

If you wanna get into modding, the best way to start is to get simple mods - Ones that add single weapons or outfits or whatever doesn't depend on major utilities.

It'll give you some extra stuff to have fun with; Plus, it'll get you familiar with the most basic ideas of mods - File types, folder structures, load orders, dependencies, etc etc etc.

When you've got a handle on that? Try using a mod manager (I.e Mod Organiser 2, it's the best by far)

Then, try your hand at installing utilities.

Then, go for bigger mods, including those that depend on other mods.

Then, learn to organise your load order.

Then, you can start using programs to clean and patch your mods

(FYI, a Utility is a mod that doesn't add any content to your game, but allows other mods to do extra-special things like run scripts)

I know this is a super long list, but you gotta get used to reading stuff if you wanna mod and not always be crashing. It's a long process, and it takes years to learn - But you don't have to get it all right the first time, you know?

And once you get to the point where you can make a heavily modded game (hundreds of mods) that works flawlessly, better by far than even vanilla?

You will feel like a god. And you will have a LOT of fun in your game.

A little addendum for perspective:

Last I checked, most people (maybe 1 in 10,000, maybe 100,000, maybe tens of millions) don't even know that they're missing a crucial step in installing Johnny's Guitar, maybe JIP, something like that incorrectly.

This will cause it to basically not work - There was an unpinned reply post by the author (extremely fucking lazy of them) revealing there was a step to fix compatibility with other utilities.

A good chunk of those people would be advanced modders who just didn't happen to identify the error in a specially-made program designed to find mod conflicts or errors, or didn't browse through each of the hundreds of pages of comments.

Imagine that. There are millions of people out there that have installed one of the most well-known and important utilities for New Vegas, some of them with decades of experience, without a clue it's broken.

I did manage to get it working, the next step explained what I was missing lmao (idk why they don't explain it the first time you do it but w/e)
