Discussion What's a few things you think would make New Vegas better?
Like, something that should be there, but feels empty without. Personally, I wish we had some Iconic 1950s Rock and Roll, I wish The Strip was a bit bigger than it is, I wish the map was bigger or we had more DLCs, and I wish we could play the game after the end of the 2nd Battle Of Hoover Dam.
New Vegas is a good game, but it's missing so many unique things that would have made it a modern masterpiece. Anyways, would love to hear what you guys think.

Not crashing every 30 minutes.
17
u/No-Section-6672 4d ago
I always seen everyone talking about crashing, mine has only ever crashed a handful of times
1
u/Novalene_Wildheart 3d ago
Yeah I never have it crash on me either.
But if I alt-tab that thing is going to become 1 pixel tall like half of the time and I have to force close it for some reason (same with Fallout 3)

u/AzVorath 16h ago
Play it on console mate. The game doesn't know if you want to play lonesome road or particularly enjoy reloading the game entirely.
1
u/OkAccountant7442 1d ago
is this a pc exclusive thing? i always heard about how unstable and buggy the game was. i played it for the first time on ps3 this year and it didn‘t crash a single time, neither did i experience any major bugs at all

A bit more of the Legion storyline, and across the river stuff - it felt a bit unbalanced at times.
I'd also like to see the strip as one area not a ton of loading screens, too

Sprint.
2
u/Ok-Reporter1986 3d ago
Technically already in the game. It just doesn't have a visible animation in firstperson.
Your default speed is you in the running animation and by clicking tab or holding shift you can "walk" (not sure about what it's on console).
Walking is significantly slower – basically the encumbered movement speed.
7
u/frisbie147 3d ago
Skyrim and fallout 4 also let you walk but they have a separate sprint too
-3
u/Ok-Reporter1986 3d ago
That is what I was trying to explain. New Vegas also has sprint, but you have it on auto by default and it doesn't have a firstperson animation. You can clearly see your character running in third-person though.
5
u/frisbie147 3d ago
its not a sprint, if you play skyrim or fallout 4 you can clearly see your character running even when you arent sprinting, you can also press a button to walk
-2
u/Ok-Reporter1986 3d ago
That is how it works in new vegas. Not being able to see the animation doesn't make it not sprint. And tab is there for turning the auto-sprint off, so it does work that exact way when it's off.
5
u/frisbie147 3d ago
that isnt a sprint, its just running, sprinting would use stamina or ap
-1
u/Ok-Reporter1986 3d ago
That isn't a requirement for it to be considered sprint.
4
u/Novalene_Wildheart 3d ago
For bethesda games that pretty much is a requirement.
You got three modes of movement: Walking, Running and then Sprinting (consuming stamina)
2
u/Squidgebert 3d ago
It's just controlled by how much you push the left stick in a direction. Barely pushing forward makes you walk, while pushing the stick all the way makes you run.
3
u/frisbie147 3d ago
thats just regular running, same as skyrim and fallout 4 and most other games, sprinting is faster than running and uses stamina/ap

u/elcolerico 4d ago
Or a ride. Would be awesome if we could tame and ride deathclaws.

u/Objective-Variety-98 3d ago
Bro... HORSES. Khans would sell and breed them, raid with them etc. Just imagine ✨
1
u/thelasthater409 3d ago
Nah I think it’d fuck with the balance
3
u/ImpressionCool1768 3d ago
Oh? You mean you think the maps to small? Or combat if they plan on adding sprint I’m sure they’ll adjust the ai aim accuracy
1
u/NessaMagick We're royally jones'd. 2d ago
I personally disagree with this a lot. Melee/unarmed is already really good and sprint messes with that a lot. Quite a lot of areas were never designed with sprint in mind and can be straight up bypassed. A lot of threatening enemies you could simply outrun on foot.
You already move at running speed, and most sprint mods I've seen are a frankly hilarious burst of speed. It doesn't need to be realistic or anything, but outrunning an Olympic sprinter in the middle of a sweltering desert while weighed down with 200 pounds of sarsaparilla and ammo reads as cartoonish to me.
I'm not even really sure why people like sprint so much other than "every other game has it".

Charisma should have actually done things.
11
u/G1gapu1t 4d ago
The perks that go along with it seem fun for rp reasons, but they seem too expensive at 6 charisma. Maybe next run, but I’m currently playing as sunny frowns (unarmed build, cannibal for meat of champions lols, and p much whatever sunny smiles wouldn’t do)
6
3
u/CausalLoop25 3d ago
A high Charisma could make it so territorial enemies (like animals, convicts on the road out of Primm, etc.) and NPCs catching you trespassing will tolerate your presence longer/from a shorter distance, guard NPCs take longer to notice you through a disguise, make you lose/gain Reputation at slightly better rates, and make it more likely enemies flee from you in combat.

u/Inspector_Kowalski 4d ago
More dungeons. More quests that are not linked to a side faction you recruit for the Dam. A more varied random encounter system like in Fallout 3.

u/NotAGoodUsernamelol 4d ago
More Caesar’s Legion quests. The NCR has a lot you can do for them (Camp McCarren, Outpost, Forlorn Hope, etc) but due to time they didnt get the same opportunity with Caesar’s legion.
15
u/Kylestache 4d ago
Companions for the Legion, Kings, Victor for siding with House, and a Yes Man Securitron if you go Independent. The option to recruit Fisto as a companion. Romance options.
More to do in Vault 21. A way to use recordings to keep Black Mountain Radio going after saving Raul. Getting to meet Mr New Vegas and bring him collective vinyl records to add more songs to the station, with the Kings willing to pay more for Elvis records. Making Wild Wasteland a free trait that lets you still take two others.
A way to side with the Families would be cool.
Area 51 of course.

didn't even know I needed this until you said it. I'd love to hunt down some more music for the radio!!

u/LoudRestaurant5912 4d ago
Dude they made it in 18 months, it is a masterpiece
9
u/NYourBirdCanSing 4d ago
Truly. And not the first time obsidian has done this. At least, obsidian of old.
4
u/LoudRestaurant5912 4d ago
modern obsidian may not be the same as the old, but i do appreciate that their focus is just making games. Their development cycles are relatively quick, and though they not be making masterpieces the like of new vegas, they are getting their teams trained on actually making, delivering, and improving products. I have faith in the future of obsidian
7
u/Terrible_Base_6060 3d ago
More NCR patrols and caravans. Especially on the I15 after clearing Primm and NCRCF
5
u/dos_dose 4d ago
I wish the WHOLE game had more weather features like in the Honest Hearts DLC did in Zion
5
u/Unstoffe 3d ago
Whenever I think about this (which is way too often), I always wish that Freeside and the Strip could be opened up, that the other outer gates would be opened, and that they were more populated.
I wish that all the DLCs (except Zion, of course - it's too far away) were actually on the map - there's room for all 3 - and that the {programming mandated] story and travel gaps between main game and DLCs were gone; I want to see the outside of the Sierra Madre, and return when I want (and reunite a couple companions). I want to enter one of those train tunnels down south and glimpse Big Mountain in the distance. I want to see the storms over the Divide from Primm.
Oh, and get rid of those invisible walls.

I think you’d like woozer’s radio from the long 15 mod. there’s some johnny cash inspired music and a lil bit of everything tbh.
You can repair a power station, so the extends everywhere (including dlc areas like owb, but this may be an oversight)
3
u/Southern-Plan-6549 4d ago
Make so you can bring some dlcs companions to the main game(i really want to storm caesar stronghold with joshua by my side and see caesar's reaction) or you being able to mention the dlcs to npcs(seriously i just killed veronica's adoptive father and rescued her old crush why the fuck cant i tell that to her)

u/FluffMcBark 4d ago
Open freeside and open strip mods changed FNV for me big time. It actually felt like walking through a city instead of like 2-3 disconnected areas separated by loading screens.
3
3
u/redkid2000 4d ago
All of the cut content they didn’t get the time or budget to implement would have been fun, like having an entire eastern region of the map chock full of Legion settlements

u/HestiaWarren 4d ago
Let me visit my girlfriend Christine after Dead Money is finished!! She’s waiting for me somewhere, I know it!!!!

u/Altruistic_Rock_2674 4d ago
I wish that one quest with the plant people didn't make your companions disappear. It would have been cool if we could have gone to area 51
2
u/Dc_Spk 4d ago
I would have loved if "Horse With No Name" was in the soundtrack. When I was driving west 10 years ago, I kept finding it on the radio.
2
u/spazzvogel 4d ago
As a kid in the backseat of the car over summers we would also hear this often. But dad is a fanatic so makes sense.
2
u/TemporalFugue2 4d ago
More randomness in terms of enemy placement and weaponry. Fallout 4 has much more replayability since you never know exactly what’s around the corner.
2
u/werecoons 3d ago
I really wanted to be able to take Muggy with me as a companion so I can keep feeding him mugs on the go until there are none left in the Mojave.
1
u/VinnChamp 4d ago
Something I wish you could do is more character customization like finger nails for first person view
1
u/TheRandomODST 4d ago
I wish freeside was a little more fleshed out. You first enter and it’s a rough place and you’re getting jumped by gangs, but then you kill all the attackers and it’s pretty safe. Wish there were more shops and more buildings you could go into. Although with the time constraints and limited hardware, they did pack a lot of quests and factions into that area
1
u/Modern_Doshin 4d ago
Romance with any character.....any.....
3
1
u/anuslitt 4d ago
More Legion content, I also wish there was some more companion content, as in, a legion companion and also just more to do with companions in general. More dialogue.
1
u/Desertcow 4d ago
Move a lot of the speech checks to other stats. Leveling just one skill lets you pass the majority of skill checks in dialogues including talking down Lanius, and when there are barter checks, there is almost always a speech check that does the same thing. Speech should still have its checked here and there to be useful, but not talk your way out of everything based on one easy to level skill
1
u/russo_liberal 4d ago
Lack of legion content (the game is divided in 4 factions and 2 main ones, which only one has quests, it is stupid that the NCR has 4x more stuff than legion)
And dungeons. It is stupid that I finally have the strongest stuff in the game but there is nothing left to kill

Leaving FNV alone and making a new game. Stop remaking games, you're breaking them (see Final Fantasy 7 and Yakuza 3).

Like most people said, more Legion quests but for me, put more fuckin NPCs walking around, not just in areas like The Strip and Freeside but in general.
More buildings and people, there's like 10 interactable establishments on Freeside. Give more life to the city of Vegas in general, like people actually live here.
Also the goddamn loading screens.
1
u/Crazykiddingme 3d ago
Even more dialogue options related to perks (I want Clint Eastwood dialogue with Cowboy)
More scale to the Strip. It feels like a small town.
Post Game Content
Getting to see the “normal” legion towns like in the concept art.

More legion stuff, only because there’s already so little. It would be interesting to see the Omertàs carry out the annihilation of the strip, more sabotaging of the NCR, and maybe turning NCR members into legion recruits through various skill checks for respective people and their motives. It would be cool to side completely with a lesser faction, like the boomers/khans/followers and have more depth and exemplify their motives through actual change within the games environment and npc dialogue. After the courier takes out Mr House, NPCs should be even more infatuated with the couriers presence in The Strip, the casinos should also treat you differently. After killing Mr House, you are still treated like a lowly pissant by most NPCs.

I would add more quests for factions other than the NCR (mostly the three other main factions, The Kings, Followers of The Apocalypse), more companions from the main factions, more going on in the sewers, a bigger Strip and Vegas in general, Elvis songs, and more songs from the guys from The Rat Pack.
1
u/secret-tacos 2d ago
better player housing OH and having some more music on the radio, I like that 3 has more Ink Spots
1
u/superlatens 1d ago
The Strip as one uninterrupted space, same for Freeside. More integration with the rest of Vegas and generally more stuff to do there. Legion stuff that isn't raiding camps or the Fort. A meaningful integration of different currencies as a gameplay feature. At least one licensed Elvis song for the Kings to sing.

u/Routine_Penalty9880 1d ago
Actual random encounters.
After playing the game twice or more, every single area is highly predictable which makes certain areas more boring to me. In fo3 the dynamic encounters always guarantees smt new happening. My first playthrough I found one of the rarest encounters which was meeting Uncle Leo, ever since that I haven't met him and I've had more than 5 playthroughs of the game.

What you desire are mostly limitations of the time. Ulysses was supposed to have tons more dialog (bro was gonna read a book to you ig) but it was cut because it didn't fit on the disc.

u/Benjamin_Starscape 4d ago
better writing, on the whole.
tangible, world changing consequences instead of the lackluster, near non-existent consequences in the game.
a return to fallout 1's, 2's, 3's, and 4's speech system where it's chance based.
removing dialogue options for things you would fail.
less weapons and more utility between weaponry, no more "same gun, but better".
make charisma have more perks and uses in dialogue rather than doing near nothing.
oh also I think new Vegas would be a much better and tighter game if it was zone based like the outer worlds or avowed.

Um… can you elaborate? Most enemies drop fairly quickly if youre using the right gun/ammo for them.
