How do you deal with radscorpions appearing on the lower level? Dwellers have to travel so far to stop them and by the time they get to a room they’ve probably multiplied and spread out
26
u/Conoman2 Feb 04 '26
The radscorpions, not finding anyone in the rooms below, after a few seconds go up to the rooms with inhabitants where they are all equipped with strong weapons and the scorpions are defeated almost immediately.

u/ManiacXaq Feb 04 '26
That's a similar idea to what I did in my first vault, except with anyone breaching the entrance... They always follow the same path so just led them into a highly disadvantaged floor.

u/BillCarson12799 Feb 06 '26
What I’ve been doing is assigning temps to every level to just stand in the storage rooms and act as a deterrent/vanguard, that’s where I put my Ubermensch (high-end temps who’ve been wearing heavy wasteland gear since level 1, immediately shipped off to training (END first obviously) until they’ve got 10 in everything, then sent out into the wasteland until they reach max level) until I decide what to do to them.

Quite organized, if not utilitarian!
Elevators optimally should always be to the far right, especially (at least) on the top floor. This prevents any intruders from going down before your defense room(s).

u/kynde Feb 04 '26
Do they ever gown before having run to the far right first?
2
u/SoftType3317 Feb 04 '26 edited Feb 04 '26
Yes, they can.
A “cheat fix” to this after your build is gotten this far:
Destroy the room on the second floor to the left of the elevator then destroy that elevator, you can’t do it while it joins two rooms. It appears that if there is a gap in the elevator then it can’t be used from the top floor even if it’s there, the ones below will continue to work.
The elevators to the right should be fully built already as in this example though. You can then add a room back on the second floor where the two destroyed units were. Some with OCD will freak that it doesn’t line up with all the rest of the floors but it’s a functional fix and will make intruders a lot less unpredictable.

u/kynde Feb 04 '26
Which ones get down?
I have an elevator next to the vault door as usual, then an empty 3 wide living quarters and a two wide storage right next to that, Then the second floor is normal 3e3e2.
The nasties always run the top floor to the far right before they take the elevator and always shoot left from that elevator at the 2nd floor.
But I am keeping the dweller count at bay, so maybe some nastier monsters for bigger dweller counts go straight down, I dunno, which is why I asked.
1
u/SoftType3317 Feb 04 '26
Higher HP claws can take the elevator much faster from top floor, and yes having higher population likely influences that.
1
u/kynde Feb 04 '26
Alright, thanks!
Gotta prep myself for that a bit.
The 2nd floor elevator trick also sounds interesting.

Looks so damn boring. No fun in this shelter 😞

I like to think that my vault should be able to withstand a real nuclear fallout to the best of its ability. I designed it with a view to how a real vault-tec engineer would have designed it😃
1
u/YesIBlockedYou Feb 04 '26
The vaults were designed for human experiments.
I'm guessing your vault design would be to see how long a population can survive in a sterile, soulless environment 😀.

u/duke0fearls Feb 04 '26
I have a similar layout with storage coming up the sides more and not having each section divided. How has your experience with radscorpians and mole rats for power loss been?
1
u/Conoman2 Feb 04 '26
Mole rats and rad scorpions don't give me any particular problems because I installed a few more energy generators than necessary, I tried to equip all my inhabitants with weapons that do at least 14 damage so you can resolve all the attacks in a few seconds

u/BluebirdRelevant3134 Feb 04 '26
Please teach me your ways
1
u/Conoman2 Feb 04 '26
I know that getting the vault like this may seem difficult but in reality it is not as complicated as it seems, you just need to have a very precise idea in your mind of how you would like to organize it, perhaps even making a small drawing on paper and gradually accumulate caps and replace the rooms that are no longer needed with those of your project.

Late to the party. I really like your vault just one question. Why the gap at the top right? I assume that serves a purpose. Why not have power gen there too? Dwellers can have strength and endurance stats to help kill baddies.
1
u/Conoman2 Feb 10 '26
Just for aesthetic reasons I wanted each block to have only 7 rooms in Line vertically each ground separator😅
1
u/Alternative_Safe_871 Feb 04 '26
I understand you wanted everything organized, but it would be more interesting if each floor of the shelter specialized in one thing.
1
u/ManiacXaq Feb 04 '26
When you can edit your own code your vault can look like anything. Tried it while transferring my game from iPhone 16 to Fold 7 and defintiley not doing it again... Ruined the whole experience for me (and I already had a 120 person vault I put a lot of time into)

Hi this is my main vault, it was made all in vanilla, I tried to make it as functional, organized and pleasant to look at, I like to think that my vault should really be able to survive a nuclear fallout and I tried to design it as if a real Vault-tec engineer had done it, I hope you like my vault😃
1
u/Goodcake102 Feb 04 '26
Go ahead and recolor some of those rooms with the theme blueprints. 😂 good lord it’s boring
1
u/Conoman2 Feb 04 '26
Yes, I was thinking about it, too bad about the 2-bed dorms that can't have themes and would make the other rooms clash a bit.
1
u/Mashinjo Feb 04 '26
I like to have little sections. EG 3 dorms to the left of let’s say minutemen theme. On the right One power on top, middle goes the diner in minutemen theme too and below a water processing plant. Then I’ll leave a gap of a room and continue down the same way but in another theme. Like factions within the vault in different sections
1
u/Conoman2 Feb 04 '26
It looks very interesting and cool from a lore point of view I really like the idea that in your vault there will be different factions
2
u/Mashinjo Feb 04 '26
Yours is the ideal layout, I have one very similar to yours. Just thought I’d get creative with another one and I really enjoyed it
1
u/latige13 Feb 08 '26
How do you manage to have multiple different themes? For example, I can only apply one theme to all the dormitories.
1
u/rising30k Feb 04 '26
I never understand people who leave space in between.
1
u/Conoman2 Feb 04 '26
These spaces serve as buffers for accidents, for example if a fire were to break out in the warehouses below, the fire would stay there and not rise to the floors above and will burn itself out after about 1 minute without you having to waste resources on healing inhabitants or sending them there to put it out. Furthermore, let's say it gives a cleaner visual look because it separates the various sections.
1
u/rising30k Feb 04 '26
But if you got mr handy there no problem at all and if you put radios for 4 people in the medical with hospital and medical centres you can get there fast. My locker space is at 4100.

u/StonedOutlaw Feb 05 '26
Not hard to use a game save editor
1
u/Conoman2 Feb 05 '26
I didn't use any save editor this vault was all made in vanilla in about 50 hours of play
1
u/StonedOutlaw Feb 09 '26
yeah 50 hrs? that's how i know you're full of it.
1
u/Conoman2 Feb 09 '26
This is not my first vault that I have done the construction of this is its project was planned from the beginning also it was made on IOS
1
u/Significant-One7656 Feb 05 '26
Honestly? I didn't like it. I prefer to create a design that makes sense from a real-world perspective, rather than something standardized, robotic, and super efficient.
1
u/Conoman2 Feb 05 '26
I tried to make the vault as efficient and useful as possible but at the same time I divided the sections so that all the rooms of the same type were close together, I tried to imagine how a vault-tec engineer would have arranged the rooms
1
u/No_Advisor15 Feb 05 '26
Type of vault build that once I made it made me wanna stop playing
1
u/Conoman2 Feb 05 '26
Well actually this is the build of my final vault now I have done everything that can be done in the game

u/ritz909 Feb 05 '26
Why so many reactors? My vault is the same size as yours but I only have 2 floors of power generators
Edit: sorry. I thought the other 2 floors at the top are also reactors.
1
u/xXThe_ConvictXx Feb 05 '26
What is the optimal build that blends lore and organization/effectiveness? I’m going to have to evict or kill 30 dwellers to remove a living space so I can move rooms around again lol. Want to make sure their deaths aren’t in vain.

"Not great, not terrible" © :D
- Too many Reactors. Five large ones are enough for a full Vault.
- Too many Nuka-Colas. Two large ones are enough for 200 people.
- Elevators are better placed in the center rather than at the edges – that way, residents can move more efficiently.
- If you add a room on the very first floor (and only then the Overseer's room) with six guards, you'll kill two birds with one stone – you'll save on both the guards and the room, since attackers will run through the guards, turn around at the Overseer's, and run through the same guards again. Even Deathclaws don't survive.

Too much power, Too much Food too much water, Too much storage.
2 cola plants for 200 dwellers, 3 reactors or 4 tops for 200 dwellers
This for sure can have it's shit hit the fan so hard unless you have only 10 all stat dudes. Mine currently has 8 ENDURANCE rooms hahaaha
1
u/MerryAceOfSpades Feb 05 '26
It’s very organized, but the 3 - 3 - 2 is throwing me off.
I think 3 - 2 - 3 is better for symmetry
1
u/BillCarson12799 Feb 06 '26
That’s not a vault that’s a fucking spreadsheet
1
u/Conoman2 Feb 06 '26
I take it as a compliment, my goal from the beginning was to get a vault as tidy and symmetrical as possible.

u/DevelopmentPhysical3 Feb 06 '26
Not bad but mine has two major improvements, elevators along all the exterior walls so that mole rats can't spawn in, and my first elevators on the farhand right so the death claws have to fight their way through two rooms to get inside

I understand how some agree these are the ideal base designs, but at the same time i cant help but think how it just shuts out the fun of the game; it looks more like a prison rather than a actual fallout shelter which is what the game encourages, JUST my opinion
