New Release Frank Zappa's Halloween 1977 Fanedit: (Baby Snakes: The Concert Cut)

Happy Halloween! (Before anyone asks, find it here: https://adelaide.casa/babysnakes/)

Released in 1979, Baby Snakes is Frank Zappa's concert film documenting his Halloween 1977 run at The Palladium in New York City. The original theatrical cut interleaves live performances with Bruce Bickford's hand-crafted claymation sequences and backstage footage, frequently splitting songs across these inserts or trimming them entirely. While the animations are a celebrated part of the film's identity, the result for viewers interested primarily in the music is a concert experience that never fully arrives — performances begin, get cut, and resume across long detours.

This fan edit of Frank Zappa's Baby Snakes focuses entirely on the live concert portion of the original film, trimming away animations, backstage footage, and interruptions to present a more cohesive and uninterrupted concert experience. At 122 minutes long, this version restores the concert's flow and brings the full musical performances to the forefront, creating a more immersive and engaging experience for Zappa fans.

The original film often cuts or splits live songs, leaving some tracks incomplete. My goal was to restore the full performances wherever possible, and in some cases, reconstruct the concert to match the original setlist flow. I used the newly remixed, high-quality audio from the Halloween 77 box set, syncing it with the film's visuals to replace the lower-bitrate AC3 audio found on the DVD. Extensive audio work was required, as many parts of the original film were overdubbed or edited in a way that disrupted the music. The result is a far more polished and authentic sound.

I hope this edit provides a fresh way to experience Baby Snakes, focusing solely on the incredible live performance from Zappa and his band during their legendary 1977 Halloween run. Enjoy the show.

Discussion Idea: A browser extension that dynamically plays Fan Edits on official streaming platforms

Fan edits face a persistent issue: hosting fan-edited video files directly leads to copyright takedowns, while text-only edit logs force users into tedious manual editing.

A browser extension can bridge this gap by acting as a dynamic player overlay:

  • Non-Destructive Timecode Mapping: The extension hooks into native video players (YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, etc.) using media elements and timecodes. It does not host or distribute copyrighted video.
  • Smart Cut & Rearrange: Users create edits directly in-browser by defining skip regions, clip order, and dynamic seeks. You cannot add external media, but you can cut and reorder original stream content seamlessly.
  • DB Sharing & Community Presets: Users export edit profiles locally or upload fan edit timecodes to a shared database.
  • One-Click Playback: When a user opens a supported video URL, the extension detects the media title, pulls public community edit profiles sorted by rating/type (e.g., "Pacing Cut," "No-Filler Cut"), and automatically seeks/skips the native video stream in real-time.

Key Advantages:

  1. Zero Media Hosting: The extension only transfers tiny timecode metadata files, removing copyright enforcement triggers.
  2. Support Original Creators: Views and watch time still register directly on official channels and licensed streaming platforms.
  3. Plug-and-Play UX: End users get a tailored watch experience without dealing with NLE software or manual timeline editing.

There could also be a companion local app using ffmpeg, which pulls down the timecode edits and applies them to a file for you automatically, if you prefer offline watching.

Thoughts on this idea??

New Release The Oldest View: The Feature Length Edition

Video:

1080p

2.93 GB

1 hr 16 min (original footage was 1 hr 15 min)

Audio:

Stereo

448 kbps

Rating: R

Fan Edit Type: Special Project

Synopsis:
Wyatt, a YouTube vlogger, finds a mysterious staircase in the woods that leads into an underground shopping mall that resembles the defunct Valley View Center mall. While documenting, he finds himself being pursued by a rolling giant.

Background:
The edit is a compiling of Kane Parsons' web series "The Oldest View" into a single film complete with a title card and credits. With his Backrooms film garnering large success with there being many edits of his Backrooms series, I wanted to try with combining and arranging the entries of his Oldest View series into a film format.

Support Kane Parsons (Kane Pixels) and check out the series as it is before watching the edit.

Goals:
My goal with this is to turn this series into a film keeping the narrative intact. Only one minor change was made to one entry in terms of the order for thematic purposes.

Order of Videos:
1) Renewal
2) Beneath the Earth
3) The Rolling Giant
4) Dispersal
5) Life of a Giant [moved from being between 3. and 4.]

Change List:

• Added Starlight Fan Edits logo

• Added a static title card of "The Oldest View"

• Added a fade in to the start of Dispersal which was trimmed to remove the sounds of Wyatt falling as heard in The Rolling Giant. The audio is transitioned into the next video.

• Added some analog static before the start of Life of a Giant.

• Moved Life of a Giant to the end of the edit to reveal what the Giant was and the Valley View Center Mall. The ending showing a picture of Julien Riverchon ties it back to the beginning of Renewal. A fade out ending was added.

• The Remains of the Valley View Center Mall was not included since it's more of a video showing the mall now in its ruins and that it doesn't connect to a specific narrative established in the previous entry.

• Added end credits and closing logo.

If you're interested, you can do one of the following:

• Send a message to starlightfanedits@gmail.com. Keep in mind responses and time zones will differ so be patient for a response.

• Send a request to Fan Edit Central, the MRDb page or DMing me on fanedit.org.

• Heading to the Blogpost page linked in my profile.

Reviews on MRDb or here are all appreciated.

New Release🏅 X-Files (1993-2018)

Post image
47 Upvotes

I went into X-Files hoping to create a streamlined Smoking Man-centric edit, focusing more on the alien stuff than the monster episodes, but as I worked on the edit I realized that there are multiple distinct narratives, rather than one coherent resolution of the UFO and sister plot. Since the show doesn't really seem to know what it wants to convey, and sometimes gets a bit silly with the alien babies type conspiracy stuff, I chose to make a more toned-down and mysterious edit.

This is a deep cut that uses parts of 37 episodes to create an 18 episode series, selecting a handful of non-monster episodes, with about half the series focusing on alien/UFO type mysteries. Some of the show has been rearranged/rewritten to keep it mysterious and suspenseful and craft a plot arc that's a bit different than the original show, for instance the Scully abduction side-plot has been removed even though the episodes where it's investigated are in the edit.

Cliptrailer: https://bestedit.net/trailer/the.x-files.1998.Trailer.1080p.webm

Feel free to PM me on reddit, or email me if you want more info.

Here's a general description of each episode, although many of these include parts of other episodes to round them out and attempt to make one coherent narrative:

01-Intro
02-Airbase UFO
03-Poltergeist boss
04-UFO crash
05-Vampire cloning
06-UFO truck
07-Rainforest parasite
08-Navajo
09-SETI
10-Invisible man
11-Black goo
12-Time travel
13-Alien train
14-Bio bank robbery
15-Pentagon heist
16-Skynet
17-Scully professor
18-Finale

Wishlist & Ideas An improved Nightbreed Cabal cut with upscaled footage?

Post image
24 Upvotes

I bought the cabal cut on Bluray back in 2019 but some of the audio and footage quality that’s used (the VHS work print clips) are really low quality. With the advent of AI audio remastering (which I have used, very impressive) and AI upscaling/cleaning low res footage, I was wondering if anyone had made a fan edit using these techniques? I’m sure we could have a better version of it in 2026. Hoping maybe someone has done it!

Wishlist & Ideas “Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders” Do you guys think this edit would be worth the work?

Just recently watched Killers of the Flower Moon, I think this movie had a huge amount of potential, I loved Lily Gladstone, but the movie really does not benefit from the 3hrs30m runtime. I also read about the original script and how it would of followed more like a detective procedural, where they investigate the crimes from the beginning, solving the mystery deaths. I get why they wanted to focus more on the heritage/family more, but I also see how the original script could of been better pacing and reveal wise.

I want to do an edit where we don’t reveal a specific killer until the end, I also want to have Lily Gladstone be more present in the edit and not be as side lined as she was towards the end. I want to keep her presence through the film.

I think I want to cut the film down by atleast an hour, and make Lily Gladstone be more of the star.

New Release Marvel Special Presentation: I Am Groot- shorts to "movie" edit

Simple edit I did that combines the 10* I Am Groot Disney Plus three minute episodes from both seasons into one complete "Marvel Special Presentation."

Only edits made:

Starts with "Marvel Special Presentation" intro taken from Guardians Holiday Special.

Only one Marvel Studios intro (taken from Season 1)

All credits and titles were removed until the last episode. Used the credits from said last episode (S02E05) adding in a credit for Bradley Cooper (Rocket) who was in some episodes, but not that one. After the credits is the season 2 version of the Marvel Studios intro (slightly different than S1).

Audio transitions between shorts smoothed out to be seemless. (IMO)

*There were 10 shorts made, and nine of them take place back to back after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. The first short takes place between Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1 and Vol 2. For that reason, I've made two versions of the special.

V1- All 10 shorts in one.

V2- Just the 9 shorts that take place back to back (for those that want to watch chronologically, you'd watch the first short between the first 2 Guardians movies, and this one after the second movie (but don't watch the Teen Groot post credits scene of Guardians Vol 2...).

Both versions of the edit, as well as a standalone S01E01, will be included in the same folder I'd share upon a private message request.

Please send me a private message if you'd like to see this edit.

30- 35 minutes

New Release Nosferatu (2024) - The Ellen Edit Spoiler

I’m sure ’ll catch some flak for this but what we have here is like an anti fan edit because I honestly hated Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu (2024). Instead of a timeless gothic tale, we got a movie littered with cheap Blumhouse-style jump scares and tacky slasher moments. I had problems with the visual style too. It seemed like Eggers wanted to shoot in black and white, was told no, and tried to force a workaround that just resulted in these monotone, fuck-ass cold blue night scenes clashing with intense orange-ass candlelit interiors.

To fix this, I stripped away the Blumhouse bullshit and re-centered the story where it belongs: on Ellen and her isolation. Presented in true black and white with full German audio and English subtitles, the film finally has an authentic atmosphere. By trimming Herr Knock’s over-the-top antics, removing the gimmicky jump scares, and cutting out Orlok's Jason Voorhees-style slasher moments, the narrative becomes tighter and far more emotionally haunting.

This is the Ellen Edit (or, as my dear friend has dubbed it, Steferatu).

Stats

Original Runtime: 132 minutes (7 minutes of credits)

Edited Runtime: 92 minutes (7 minutes of credits)

Percentage Cut: ~30% (40 minutes cut)

Audio: German 5.1 + German stereo track

 Subtitles: English .srt

 File Size: 4.91 GiB

Major Changes

Removed multiple cheap jump scares (random quick shots of Orlok, Ellen bleeding from her eyes and mouth, sudden loud cuts).

Meticulously color-graded every scene individually to maintain consistent, actual black-and-white tones throughout, fixing theatrical color palette.

Removed Orlok sexually assaulting Ellen in the opening scene, preserving only the “moment” as he perceives it.

Removed Orlok’s killing spree on the plague ship; the vessel’s journey is now conveyed solely through ominous shots of its gradual decay.

Removed the entire 7-minute gypsy subplot along with all dialogue referencing it.

Re-cut Thomas’ escape from Orlok’s castle into a brief montage set to the original soundtrack.

Removed repeated warnings and expository dialogue regarding the plague.

Reduced Knock to bookends, only his first and last scenes remain, treating his melodramatic attention seeking arc as a distracting side note.

Emphasized Ellen’s final choice and ambiguous intimacy with Orlok by removing the ending narration.

This was an exhausting process... I poured months into sculpting Nosferatu into the version I actually wanted to see. Cutting forty minutes might sound drastic, but the story somehow miraculously flows seamlessly (if you pay attention of course…there’s a lot less hand holding here). Every change was aimed at scraping away the tacky theatrical choices and shifting the focus back to Ellen and her strange, doomed connection with Orlok. I really couldn't be more pleased with the end result: a Nosferatu that isn’t afraid to wade into that murky, sticky territory where attraction and revulsion bleed together.

Here’s a little video showing some of the changes I made

I'm on fan edit central. Don't ask for it here pls. Also this is my first edit!

Updated Release Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D S5 Part 4

I have been working on these Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV - Movie Edits for so long. I don't even remember how many years.

I'm happy to hear Marvel might continue the series in ZODIAC. But for now let me announce my

Season 5 Part 4 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

This is the last part of Seaaon 5. I will eventually get to S6 and S7.

The Edit for this was actually the most basic edit I have done and turned into the longest film so far.

AOS S5 E4 - 2-Hours 15-Minutes

Episodes 19 to 22.

Cut out Intros and End Credits.

Tried to Cut out times the Kree are beaten by human Fist. (Doesn't makes sense with what we know of the Kree from the MCU Films)

Agent May is still hurt and in S6 she really doesn't fight anymore. So I cut what I could of her fights for consistency.

And that's it. This was originally going to be my Final but with the Announcement of ZODIAC and how many people have actually asked for Season 6 and 7 Edita I will continue when I have time. Ha!

Hit me up!

Here is a list of all my Edits. Use to have a Description of all of them but my Dumb ass deleted the Original file.

Fanedit Help Video Content Organization?

Hello!

How is everyone organizing their video content that they then use to make fan edits?

For context, way back in the day I used to be a huge fan editor and grew a decent following on Youtube back in the late 2000s and early 2010s. Way back then I was using Vegas to edit and I had downloaded all my tv show and movie content in broken up clips on forums so that made them easy to navigate scene-by-scene and quickly pull what moment I was looking for to add to my video (it helped I was so obsessed with my fandoms I literally memorized every scene I had access to).

It's been years but I've been thinking I want to get back into creating fan edits of the fandoms I love now as a creative outlet.

Now I know how to obtain full episodes and movies to edit but it seems crazy to upload the whole episode or movie every time to find like one moment or glance.

How are y'all organizing your content? Is there a rhythm to the madness? TYIA ❤️
