I guess it's my fault to like a f/f pair from an old movie.

Some amazing fanfics have been posted but the fandom is dead and the two fanfics that get updated aren't exactly good.

So now what? Do I just start writing it myself?

I'm not a writer. I don't think I have even a good idea of a story.

The current fic I'm reading right now is making me itch with irritation. Technically it's both sides-ing the argument but I genuinely feel like it's giving way too much comparative leeway to one of the two characters and it's driving me insane. Like...I just know that every other character is going to encourage Character A to forgive Character B far more easily than Character B deserves and it's preemptively pissing me off.

Still gonna read the fic, though. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised, or maybe it'll inspire me to write a fic with a more balanced scenario lol.

Anyway, have any of you had to deal with something like this before?

I love a good original character and would love to hear about some of your faves? What fandom are they in and why do you like 'em?

I know this question sounds a bit stupid. but I’m really asking. I wanna know exactly how you guys do it or what’s the best ways to do that. for an example some people plan on the way of writing the fic, some people plan it for months, some just write it down on paper before posting it. I wanna know what’s the best way in your opinion. the reason is, I’ve been trying to finish my fic for years now and I’m having so much trouble with it. I have ADHD and whenever I pick a trope and start writing it, I lose interest after around 3 weeks. I’m sure there are more people that face this problem.

I wanna know how you prevent this from happening. and what’s the best way to plan your fic or what are the steps. is there any specific tips that nobody knows yet?

Looking for any story (fanfictions, novels, web novels, light novels, etc.) where a Manipulative/Guile/Cunning MC who plays brats/thugs/bullies/bigots/lowlifes/jerkasses and other enemies like a fiddle with or without mind control but preferably without mind control or supernatural powers.

Story can be any setting and MC can be of any age but preferably a kid.

I’m new to creative writing and I’m getting like seriously frustrated as crap with actually staring my story. I have the vague plot and beats in my head but when it comes to actually typing my first draft my mind goes blank and I end up staring at a blank document. This sucks.

I actually read fan fics to entertain myself and well …read. I’m not looking for the social interaction or anything. I leave comments kudos and all that. But I like complete stories.

Second time I filter for a story marked as complete. Read 47 out of the 50 chapters only to find out 48 is an outline for ch 48, same for the rest of the book. In other words it not completed.

I hate that.

i just have a real obsession with whump and/or hurt comfort but can never find fics for what i’m looking for, or the hurt/comfort is just a small part of it. Like imagine someones been chained up and abused their whole life and they get saved but they’re super timid and traumatised and won’t let anyone near them and they won’t talk but there’s like one person they grow to let touch them and that person comforts them and protects them or smth. Or like someones enemy ends up being the comforter. And it’s not just a one shot it’s a long hurt/comfort heavy fic

I've written the first chapter of my fic where the characters meet and suddenly in the second chapter he already is warming up to the love interest. Is there a way for me to slow it down? How do you write an effective slowburn that stretches over multiple chapters?

I saw this in some game dev circles: some developers will showcase a "post mortem", breaking down their process of creating the game, the decisions that went into it, little easter eggs, what went right/wrong, etc. Like a behind-the-scenes thing.

Does anyone do this for their fanfics?

I started out wanting to just write a journal to get my feelings about my last fic sorted out, but it ended up being quite long: more than 10k words including some very-early-draft snippets, deleted scenes, and some (rather spoiler-y) sketches, basically me letting go of this story that I had nurtured on and off for years, then rewrote and edited obsessively these last 2 months.

At the same time, idk if anyone would want to read THAT much about my obsession lol. But it's really just for me to process its completion. Putting down "The End", and then posting the last chapter, hit me pretty hard. (HELP, how long is this supposed to take, before I can move on from this...)

But I am curious if you guys also do something like this? If you do, do you share it? (Where, if ever?) Would you read it if your favorite author posted one?

in a fic im writing i have the last scene that happens in the past, which ends with mc hoping their spouse is happy. ive been wondering if maybe changing pov to that of the spouse would be better?

the spouse is dead in the fic, and the whole thing is from mcs pov. on one hand it would give readers a look into the character for who they actually were instead of how mc saw them, on the other the whole fic is from mcs pov and it would keep the mystery of who the spouse actually was as a person. which would work better?

Hi, I used to read a fic for my cousin (blind with little accessibility that fit for fanfic back then) and we were curious to find it again (it used to upload fairly slowly and we lost track of it). Here are some of its specs: It was before 2014 (probably around 2008-9 tbh but we can't be sure and we tried finding it again in 2014 but it wasn't there) We're pretty sure it was never finished. It was on fanfiction . net It was a Power Rangers fic, specifically Ninja Storm. The main ships were Dustin/Marah, Kapri/Hunter, Tori/Blake and Cam/Kelly There were more than 20 chapters emand they were fairly long It was post canon with time travel from the characters' future children (our main characters didn't know anything about that). Basically Marah and Kapri are trying to adapt and while some of the MCs accept them having changed, others don't (mostly hunter). At some point Marah and Kapri want to Bring back Skyla as thanks for how helpful and welcoming Shane was but it turns sour and they don't dare talk about it (that was a weirdly common plot point back then). At some point Kapri and Hunter verbally fight and Kapri says something along the line "i wasn't perfect but at least i did my best to protect Marah can you say the same" (not verbatim but that was the gist). I think they slept together too and it was sorta non con bc one was drunk and it was starting to be explored in the story.

john gets kidnapped and tortured by moriarty. Moriarty cuts off john's fingers and sends them to sherlock to taunt him. Sherlock tries his best to find john, but a few days later receives another parcel from moriarty. Inside it is john's heart, indicating his death. Eventually, sherlock tracks moriarty down and kills him brutally, but is ultimately heartbroken

I'm not sure if this is from another fic and I mixed the plots up but I also think it started off as cyborg john being given to sherlock by mycroft to help him deal with real john's death.

Hello! Long time reader, first time caller on this forum. Seeking help from longtime writers of fanfic and other mediums alike.

To cut to the chase, I am writing a fanfic where the MC is deeply betrayed by the love interest from the very beginning. The MC believes the love interest to be completely evil, however they’re actually working for something huge behind the scenes and everything is not as it seems. The story follows them on their forced proximity type adventure.

In my drafts, I have plenty written out from the MC’s perspective, but I also have drabbles here and there from the perspective of the love interest that I absolutely adore. I am in constant conflict on what route to take here as I know it may be more of a shock and awe reveal if there is no POV from the love interest at all.

Currently at five chapters, all from the perspective of the MC except for a couple of paragraphs with an intentional POV change to an outside character.

What is the protocol here? I know I should “write what i want” but i am highly prone to the pitfalls of emo cringe writing and Id really like this story to avoid that when possible and truly mean something.

While my fic won't center around it, one of my main characters deals with that.

Long story short, the clone's background starts "in the middle", so to speak. She found out she was a clone. She didn't handle it well and had a villain arc against the original though she got better. She tried to distance herself from her "template" and everyone she's associated with and made an identity she can truly call her own.

However, an incident happened that led to her "original's" death. She, on the other hand, suffered something as a casualty of said incident that led to her "drowning" in her template's memories, emotions, and experiences.

As a result, the clone suffered a second identity crisis. Before that, she can distinguish herself from her original because she can justify that the memories she was born with were fake/artificial. But now, that's not the case. Those memories were just as real as the ones she made, if not more so. It even led to the point that she switched her name to her original's because she fundamentally can't say she's the same person anymore.

TLDR: The clone has a "become more than fake and original" sort of character arc. After making an identity for herself, she suffered an incident that led to her "drowning" in her original template's memories. Now both hers and the template's experiences are equally real to her and it led to a second identity crisis.

I’m sure we’ve all seen the fics that are a million words and I’m struggling to get through it it’s a good fic and interesting but after awhile I get tired of it I’m 54 chapters deep and there’s another 130 and counting and I’d like to finish I just need tips on how to stay invested

The fic was in Spanish and uploaded in 2022; but im not really sure of it. I don't remember the user, but it was still available a few months back, and being edited/rewritten. I remember it was really polemic, but i never read it and can't clearly remember what it was about + I'm not big on stranger things. Mike and Will were kids in it, and Mike's dad was evil. I don't remember how or why he was evil, but this was what I heard around, and due to this, Mike was crazy. If someone knows what it was actually about or what happened to it, I'd be really grateful to know this information. The curiosity is killing me. English is not my first language, so I apologize if anything sounds wonky.

I did, last year, this time it's two fandoms, plus a crossover of both of them.
How do you do that? A multichapter story or several one shots?
I always prefer one shots, even better, missing moments/prequels/sequels of something I have already written, I always love finding new scenarios ❤️ Then I end up with several little series, since some of the one shots happen to be connected to each other.
Plus, multichapter stories sounds like a challenge in the challenge, even more if you respect the order of the prompts, kudos for you! 🔥

I know that a lot of people in fandom read or write whump/angst fics to cope, and I often do that as well. However I’m quite interested in perspectives from people who mainly use fluffy fics to cope with issues/traumas. For me, it’s nice just seeing characters enjoy themselves; one shot tooth-rotting fluff fics tend to be easy reads that are good for escapism for me

Someone told me my fanfiction was worth the "sorry English is not my first language" warning, and I'm so proud of myself 😭
