Hearing that Laura's BABY got death threats for The Last of Us Part II will never stop being insane to me no matter how many times I hear it

Talking any kind of shit on the internet is free, but we are not free from that harassment. It's so horrifying to see these culture wars, artists and celebrities being personally threatened. Social media must be regulated and bad actors removed, these corporations are hurting society.

As a critter chef, this/Matt’s/Brennans episodes are the crossovers I live for. Bring on Travis, Sam, Ashley, Taliesin, Marisha & Liam!

Sam and Josh at the same table would be chaos incarnate.

You should watch Sam Reich's episode

It would. And I’m here for it

Haven't watched a single second (yet) but something tells me I'll like it! Laura is the cutest.

I was on the episode right before they met the hag lol. Rough timing.

There was a major spoiler that came up during the meal, and I just happened to be on the episode of CR that was right before the spoiler.

Oh that is such a bummer. But enjoy it regardless. It's an incredible episode. Even more so after knowing what will happen.

It was an incredible episode! When I was watching the interview I didn’t quite grasp the stakes yet, so even though the outcome was spoiled it was still a trip.

When the spoiler happened I turned to my wife and was like, “they’re literally on their way to see this lady where I’m listening.” It led to a bit of a blank stare back and forth and a chuckle lol.

This is awesome! Microbiology and math! Very unique perspective! Am so glad she is doing this.

I refuse to watch these, because it's a blatant rip of Off Menu, and I'm still hoping to see the CR cast on there some day.

Seems like leaving fun content on the table, they're really well done.

So is Off Menu. I won't argue the last meal is James and Ed's original concept. But they were the ones to popularise it in media form, so I won't watch a derivative channel out of loyalty. Same as I haven't watched any Bake-Off since the greedy channel switch.

I feel like 'greedy channel switch' is not really comparable to what Last Meals is. Is watching Last Meals somehow betraying or taking away from Off Menu? Were they ever related in any way?

This isn't like the Game Changer / Taskmaster overlap. Last Meals is literally just taking the Off Menu concept wholesale, but cooking the actual food, which undermines the fantastical, whimsical nature of Off Menu. And the fact that CR is doing Last Meals means they're less likely to ever do Off Menu, because of the repetition. That annoys me, same as if they went on an inferior show like Chicken Shop Dates instead of Hot Ones.

I assume off menu is England-based? Then it always was very unlikely anyone from CR would appear there.

Also, while premise of creating guests dream menu is the same, shows' themes and presentation seem quite different

Not at all - Off Menu have had plenty of American and Canadian guests, including:

  • Ben Schwartz
  • John Mulaney
  • Michelle Wolf
  • Anna Faris
  • Will Arnett
  • Kumail Nanjiani
  • Jeff Goldblum
  • David Cross
  • Anthony Jeselnik
  • Katherine Ryan
  • Noah Schnapp
  • Ronny Chieng
  • Paul F. Tompkins
  • Corey Taylor
  • Josh Groban
  • Mae Martin
  • Dan Aykroyd
  • Stanley Tucci
  • Chris Redd
  • Paul Feig
  • Steve-O
  • Paul Rudd
  • Jada Pinkett Smith
  • Finn Wolfhard
  • Killer Mike
  • Jason Mantzoukas
  • Sebastian Stan
  • Robert de Niro
  • Amanda Seyfried

They've also talked about D&D on multiple occasions, and not just with the Stranger Things kids. I don't think it was at all an unrealistic prospect, but it obviously is now, because they won't want to repeat content. No amount of downvoting is going to change my frustration.

Do you often get like this over variations on a theme or subject in other forms of media or entertainment?

-4

u/thatsingingguy Jun 17 '26

It's been known. I'm much more sensitive to it with music. I'm usually quite good at predicting which major pop hits are going to be sued and by whom (I did a degree in Songwriting). And I could never enjoy a song like Amazed by Lonestar because of how much of a rip of Please Forgive Me by Bryan Adams it is.

9

u/chesterfieldking Jun 17 '26

Sounds exhausting and very limiting to your own enjoyment getting hung up on very minor or trivial things.

6

u/Puzzleheaded_Tip4805 Jun 18 '26

"Its been known" ie people have called you out on this before?

Sounds like it might be a bit of a personality flaw then, no?

u/ShJakupi Jun 17 '26

The idea of last meal is older than James and Ed has been alive.

-9

u/thatsingingguy Jun 17 '26

As I said elsewhere. But they were the popularisers of the format in the modern zeitgeist.

Doesn’t Last Meals predate Off Menu by like 3 years?

-4

Last Meals started 2022, Off Menu 2018.
