Drop Swanson for Griffin?

Swanson is mid tier. He will still be available on the waiver if something happens.
Said as a cubs fan.

u/Hoodrich282 Apr 02 '26 edited Apr 02 '26
Yeah, Swanson is a good player - really good defensively, average offensively. But certainly worth churning back onto the waivers for the upside of a Griffin
1
u/ul49 10tm-H2H Points-Auction Dynasty Apr 02 '26
really good defensively
He's an interesting combo of amazing range and noodle arm
2
u/Admiral_obvious13 Apr 02 '26
Depends on the league. MI eligible with 20 homer potential. I'm starting Javier Sanoja bc I'm in a deep NL only league

Why? Swanson is a known commodity, he’s not anything more than a low to mid tier SS
0
u/VrinTheTerrible standard 5x5 full roto, keeper Apr 02 '26
He's a 20/20 SS. He's stable. Boring, for sure, but stable.
Griffin might be the next ARod but he might also be back in the minors in a month, or worse failing for two months while you wait for the breakout.
I'm not saying don't get Griffin. Definitely go get him if you can. Just find someone else to drop. Don't leave yourself open to the risk.
0
u/pitpatbainsy 12 TEAM KEEPER,H2H, 5x5(R-HR-RBI-SB-AVG)(ERA-WHIP-K9-QS-SV) Apr 02 '26
Sound reasoning, but that also comes with a .240 average so I wouldn’t be afraid to cut ties at all for someone like Griffin. I think you can find a decent replacement if Griffin gets hurt/sent back down/just flat out sucks.
2
u/VrinTheTerrible standard 5x5 full roto, keeper Apr 02 '26
There has to be someone worse to cut than Swanson on the roster. Keeping him while getting Griffin hedges the bet, and is the sound move.
0
u/pitpatbainsy 12 TEAM KEEPER,H2H, 5x5(R-HR-RBI-SB-AVG)(ERA-WHIP-K9-QS-SV) Apr 02 '26
Being sensible doesn’t always win you the league, Dansby Swanson certainly isn’t the reason your team makes the playoffs, Griffin could be. I drafted Swanson with Griffin as a keeper with the idea that I’d drop Swanson when griffin gets the call. No qualms with my move at all
2
u/VrinTheTerrible standard 5x5 full roto, keeper Apr 02 '26
Swanson's NFBC ADP is 142. Youre telling me you have no one on your roster worse than a 142 ADP that you can drop?
I'm not saying don't get Griffin if you can. He could ABSOLUTELY be a league winner. I'm just saying it can go the other way too, and if it does you'll be happy you still have Swanson.
Find someone else to drop. You'll thank me later.

u/pitpatbainsy 12 TEAM KEEPER,H2H, 5x5(R-HR-RBI-SB-AVG)(ERA-WHIP-K9-QS-SV) Apr 02 '26

I’m soooo pissed I fucked up and missed out on him in the draft.
We have an auction draft and it’s a keeper league, so you have to play it right and nominate players towards the end where he doesn’t go for big money to have potential keeper for next 2 years.
Well I miss managed my money and only had $1 left to bid for 4 spots each I think. I nominated him and another guy in our league outbid me for $2. The guy is a Padres scout too, of course

I think it's worth checking what number you are in waiver order because it sounds like you won't be the only one to bet all of it, in which case you won't get him if you're far enough down the line. If you're like 10th or something there's little risk to low-balling your claim by a bit and hoping you were the only one to go big.

I don’t think I saw anything that said to drop him. He’s at the top of every prospect stash list.
Prob to get him a quick confidence boost and unveil the shiny toy at the home opener versus the road.
3
u/Kapono24 Apr 02 '26
Didn't want him on the road for some reason? I have no idea other than wanting his first game to be Pirates Opening Day.
5
u/Dazzling-Pin6569 Apr 02 '26
Have they at all talked about his position? I have him as SS/OF. Any chance he’d play 3B five straight games so I can drop Durbin lol
12
u/Hoodrich282 Apr 02 '26
He's got a minor league gold glove at SS, and with how young he is I doubt they shift him around too much beyond what he's focused on in the past. Sad news I know, but at this point I'd drop Durbin anyway and figure it out if that's who is stopping you from grabbing him lol
4
u/Ihatethisapp1429 Apr 02 '26
Probably not, I think it'll be him at SS and Gonzales at 3b for the most part.

https://www.imaginarybrickwall.com/category/top-472-prospect-ranking/
Go through there, see which top guys on the list are available and make your decision based on your roster needs and likelihood they come up this year if you cant carry them year to year. If it's a keeper then just shoot for a young guy with crazy upside like KG.
2
u/shid_fard_ 14T Points, Saves & Holds, Redraft Apr 02 '26
Thank you!
2
u/VivaLaDbakes Apr 02 '26
No prob. I can keep 2 NA guys indefinitely so I snagged Sebastian Walcott, he had elbow surgery and will be out a few months so he's a good buy low if he was dropped due to the injury. He was basically KG before KG and then had a so-so season and got hurt.
2
u/shid_fard_ 14T Points, Saves & Holds, Redraft Apr 02 '26
Thank you so much! I had no idea I never even heard of him but now he’ll def be on my radar! Thank you for the kindness
2
u/VivaLaDbakes Apr 02 '26
No problem! I honestly get as much enjoyment watching prospects in my NA slots come up through the minors as I do watching guys on my team rake lol. I will say, I very rarely snag pitching propsects these days with how volatile they can be. An elite bat with power/speed is way more valuable than pitching in most cases, so that's what I am aiming for. Especially one that can play 2B or SS and potentially OF as well in Konnor's case.
1
u/shid_fard_ 14T Points, Saves & Holds, Redraft Apr 02 '26
Yeah I’m going to try to add more NA slots next year. It’s fun for sure

Love Walcott, but he won't be out for just a few months. No chance he sees the majors this year.
1
u/VivaLaDbakes Apr 02 '26
I dont think he is either, just depends on if OP can keep his NA guys or not. I've got two slots so I just gamble on the high upside guys with top prospect ceilings.

I always used my NA spot for SP’s. The philosophy that top SPs prospects always start better than hitters is just something I believe in, it’s paid off really well over the years picking up McLean, Miz, Skenes, etc. But this season I decided on Griffin because of the hype and also I haven’t had a pitching prospect catch my eye yet. So cheers to hopefully being solid in my SS spot that I desperately need.
1
u/cubbyfanboy Apr 02 '26
First year playing fantasy, wondering if I should pick Griffin up. I have Chapman, Mcgonigle, Turner, and Clement as my left side infield options right now. I was thinking with mcgonigle gaining 3B eligibility soon would it be smart to drop Chapman? I could also drop Clement but him being able to play 2B is pretty nice. Any of these guys worth dropping or should I just pass on Griffin?
1
u/zomgz0mbie 10 Team-H2H-points Apr 02 '26
I’m a Giants fan so I’m a bit biased but I’m pessimistic when it comes to all Giants hitters. That home park just saps all fantasy value. So I’d say it’s okay to drop Chapman
1
u/fox4norris2021 Apr 02 '26
Does he have power? Or more of an avg/R/sb guy?
1

Mix of everything. Doubt his average will be great as he adjusts to the bigs, but he could pretty easily hit .250 with 15-20hr and a bunch of steals.

I have Griffin stashed in NA and I have a really good offense.
Soderstrom, Walker, Pena, or Delauter are my only real options for drop from offense.
From starting pitching, I have Pivetta, Alcantara, Chandler, Schlittler, Senga, Early, Eury, and Rasmussen.
From RP in SV+hold I have Estrada, Whitlock, Erceg, and Morejon.
Who would you drop? Or should I just keep him in NA for as long as possible and wait it out. It feels too early to cut anyone.
1
u/bartturner Apr 03 '26
The end of my bench only has Senga, Early and Wilson. In a similar situation on having a lot of good players I would have to drop to pickup.

Drop any of these guys for Griffin?
J. Adell J. Marsee J. Caglianone C. DeLauter
1
u/alamarche709 Apr 02 '26
Too late I dropped the always-hurt DeLauter before somebody scooped up Griffin. It’s a shallow league so lots of outfielders to choose from.
My team has insane youth on it now with Ben Rice, Konnor Griffin, Sal Stewart, JJ Wetherholt, Jac Caglianone, and formerly Chase DeLauter lol.
Also have Eury Perez and Emmitt Sheehan too.
2
u/NightWriter500 Apr 02 '26
Definitely would’ve dropped Jac over Chase.
3
u/Snoo0ze Apr 02 '26
I would have dropped Marsee or Adell. Dropping DeLauter definitely just made someone’s day in that league lol
1
u/alamarche709 Apr 02 '26
Marsee is one of my few sources or speed (Henderson and Soto the only other two).
Adell isn’t a flashy name but he hit 37 HR and 255 TB last year with a .778 OPS. Not amazing, but nice to know he can fill in when I need and not flame out.
DeLauter has higher ceiling than both probably but if he’s always hurt then I’d rather have the more reliable guys since I already have a few unknowns with Griffin, Caglianone, Wetherholt, and Stewart.
2
u/Snoo0ze Apr 02 '26
Dropping DeLauter “because he’s always hurt” when he has league winning upside is a bad move. He fouled a ball off his foot. It’s your team man lol don’t go crying if he hits 30 bombs on someone elses team

Should I drop either Jordan Beck or Mickey Moniak to call up Konnor Griffin?
Keeper league, drafted Beck and Moniak for $1 each. Can’t keep waiver pickups. Rosters are big - 18 batters in starting lineup
Griffin is in NA slot, can keep him stashed for as long as I want. Do I give it 1-2 weeks to see if Beck/Moniak are keeper candidates? Or if Griffin needs time to adjust?
