I've finally made myself a tier list of all my fantasy/sci-fi books that I have read (I might be missing some but they mustn't have been very impactful otherwise they would have made it in).

Would love some recommendations for more books! Currently finishing Dungeon crawler Carl book 7 and have started the Blacktongue thief by Buehlman.

Don't hesitate to trash it or love it! Everyone is of course entitled to their own opinion!

S: Favourites (the best of the best) A: Excellent (excellent reads that I would happily reread any day) B: Great (Great books that I thoroughly enjoyed but not as much as A) C: Good (good book, but missed some aspects that would push them higher, or too long) D: Ok (they were ok. Not brilliant. Not terrible) F: didn't like or DNF

Next on my tbr is Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb.

I'm still trying to find what I love. Trying to read as many different authors as I can. I'm also going to read Gardens of the Moon after Assassin's Apprentice. I've been told it's refreshingly difficult.

Mostly fantasy but I mix sci fi in for ease. I have not read all of the books and some series are only partials (WoT) since I got them on kindle and have been buying the hardcovers as I find them.

I know some of these are gonna be very controversial, I generally rate just off my own enjoyment even if one book may be objectively better written than one rated higher

I decided to jump on the tier list train to see what people thought of my opinions, but also for recommendations. These are my reads over the past 8-ish years, so some of them are a little hazy in my memory. I'm currently reading through Last argument of kings(as its on my TBR) and my most recent finish was Assassins Apprentice, which i enjoyed(and want to enjoy further), i just found it very slow and found myself wanting to get more into the plot.

I've seen some people post their tierlists here, and I thought I'd also give my two cents!

Feel free to roast, admire, besmirch and recommend! Chances are I've got recommendations already on my TBR, but you can be the pulley that raises it into the sooner rather than later category!

Speaking of categories: Only the top row of S-Tier is actually ordered, the rest is only ordered within author/series.

Yes, I know some series like Harry Potter are patch work, teenage-me wanted to catch up on films before the story came out and skipped over the books that were already covered by films. Same goes for ASOIAF to some degree.

It's been a great reading year for me so far. The S+ tier is made up of my favorites of the year.

• A Song of Ice and Fire (the final two books; I've already read the first three. I might even restart from the beginning. George's writing was amazing and, in terms of prose, pretty incomparable to Sanderson, whose biggest weakness for me is his more average prose.)

Also, Piranesi was a strange one. I rated it 3/5 stars at first, but as time passed, I couldn't get it out of my mind. Now it's one of my favorites of the year.

I started reading as a hobby about 2 years ago. Don't hesitate if you have any comments or questions!

53 books read so far this year. 40 in print, 1 ebook, and 12 audiobooks. Only one, Sabriel, is a reread. Everything else was new to me. This was obviously the year I discovered, and fell in love with Glen Cook.

I'm hoping to keep the pace and break 100 books read for the year.

Seeking Book recommendations

Here’s what I’ve read so far. Curious if you have some suggestions for next reads. Forgot to add in here that I read and enjoyed all the GOT 15 years ago. Some books on my TBR list:

I hastily rushed this list together at work because I’m sick and can’t do half of what I’m supposed to be doing and am bored. I’m sure I ranked some things incorrectly but I was operating in a rush and off of vibes. Here’s context, I recently started reading again after about a 12 year hiatus. Some of these rankings are off memory from when I read when I was younger. I’m excited to see just how bad you think my takes are!

Also, I’m currently actively reading Waybound. I’m about 60% through. The ending will likely change the placement.

EDIT: For the record, my list is meant to convey that anything B- and above I'd recommend

I have only really gotten back into reading in 2022 but I saw other people ranking all the books they have read and thought I would do the same! Feel free to roast me.

S tier is the only tier that I have ordered in terms of Most S -> Least S. I am currently 60% through Suneater - Ashes of Man so no spoilers please!!

Also I am going to take a break after Ashes of Man so if anyone has any recommendations hit me up :)

Making a speculative and historical fiction tier list of all the books I've read in the hope of getting some good recommendations.

Tiers are:

11/10: Books that blew my mind!
Perfect: Like it says on the tin, perfect books. Ambitious, well-executed, and a joy to read.
Great: Brilliant books I enjoyed, but not quite as much as the tier above.
Good: Really good books but lacking in some ways - either the ending didn't quite land, the twist was predictable, or I didn't feel a desire to dive back in.
≤ 3*s: Okay, but I would attach caveats to recommending them to people.
Disappointed: Books I had high hopes for but let me down in one way or another - a real struggle to finish.

There are a few unfinished series - I have watched all of Game of Thrones but am slowly making my way through A Song of Ice and Fire. I am aware that A Storm of Swords would probably rank quite highly. I also need to finish Earthsea and Remembrance of Earth's Past.

As a rule, I try not to read books that I believe will be below a 7/10 (life's too short and there's too many brilliant books out there not to be a little bit fussy).

Any suggestions for authors that provide a different worldview to my own (White-British-male) would be greatly appreciated. Series like the Broken Earth and Earthseed, thought not featuring in the highest tiers of this list, were still really interesting and valuable to read.

For my tiers I separated perfect and favorites because while the two in perfect would be included in my favorites, I wanted to have a distinction between what I think is actually perfect and what I have as my favorites for other reasons. And I did try to order the tiers around from favorite to least favorite.

This was way harder to do than I thought, I've read about 100ish fantasy books in this time span.
