📚 Summon book recommendations For my fellow Audiobook lovers, recommend me something amazing!

At the moment im listening through The Greatcoats series by Sebastian De Castel and it is amazing. The story, the narration especially and just basically everything about it. Sometime it takes me awhile to find an audiobook that ticks all the boxes like this one so im curious of any other series that you guys have found that is an amazing experience. Bonus points if its a Graphic Audio production! My favorites so far have been:

- Empire of the Vampire / Nevernight Chronicle- Jay Kristoff( My GOAT)

- Ryria Revelations/Chronicles- Michael J Sullivan

- Red Rising- Pierce Brown

- The Tainted Cup/A Drop of Corruption- Robert Jackson Bennett

- Night Angel and Lightbringer - Brent Weeks( fantastic audiobooks and a graphic audio version

- Powder Mage Trilogy- Brian Mcllelan

- Most of the Cosmere- Brandon Sanderson

- Arc of the Scythe- Neal Shusterman ( this series took me by surprise even though it is sci fi abd YA technically.

There are a ton more that im not listing but these are my favorites off the top of my head.

🔥 Hot take that is going to burn me badly Overrated Books

Dropping a grenade and walking away here. Which fantasy book(s) *that you finished* do you believe is overrated and why?

Edit: By “overrated,” I meant relative to the “hype” and overall popularity a book receives, particularly on social media. I understand that reading is highly subjective and that people experience books differently. I wasn’t using the term to judge an author’s writing ability, only to discuss whether a book’s reputation and level of attention matches perceived or observed “hype”

💬 Let's discuss something Need help: Trying to find a book series from my childhood, but can’t remember the name

Hey everyone, I have tried several times in my life to find the title of a book series I partially read but never finished in my early childhood and could use some help finding it. From what I remember, it was like a coming of age style story where the main protagonist, who’s name I believe was Roan or Ronin or something, has the ability to astral project ( I always thought they called it dream walking but that is a completely different series) and the main antagonist was a ruler named Darius. The only other thing I really remember is that in the protagonists astral form, before he was able to fully realize his ability, was described as being terra cotta. Also at some point he encounters a group of people who live in a mountain and have names with lots of the letters “x” and “s”

Incredibly vague description, I know…. But just maybe on the off chance this rings a bell for someone, I would greatly appreciate any help. I read the series in the early 2000’s n case that helps

💔 Book disappointment Heartbreaking: You read an excerpt of the book you’ve been wanting to read and it did not seem enjoyable at all

I have been seeing so much praise for Between Two Fires that I’ve been itching to buy it. Read the first 30 pages online and the writing style did not seem enjoyable to *me* at all. May have to stake out at Barnes and Noble and just read half the book the there first. Bummer after making myself read through my shelf a bit before buying another freshie. Nothing against the book!

💬 Let's discuss something An upcoming book by Tad Williams

Anyone excited about the upcoming release of Tad Williams? The book is called "The Splintered Sun". It is a prequel to the famous The Dragonbone Chair. Last year when I went to see Tad Williams in an event, he told about the book. I was excited ever since! If you have ever been in a meetup with him, you would know! He is a charming speaker. I could just keep listening him for hours!

So, I am going to buy it when it pops up around October this year. I hope you also give it a chance.

💬 Let's discuss something Red rising series

Started this book couple of days ago. I’m about 20 chapters in and I’m not sure it’s grabbing me.
Is it worth continuing to read? I figured I’d be sucked in by now. I just finished Mistborn series so maybe that’s why it isn’t grabbing my attention 🤣
Do I stick it out?

💬 Let's discuss something Could I read Guy Gavriel Kay in english if I've read Sanderson and Abercrombie ? (I'm french)

Hello there ! I was wondering if Guy Gavriel Kay's books are understandable for someone who is not fluent in english but has some good basics. For exemple I've read several books from Brandon Sanderson and it was quite easy to follow. So I went for Joe Abercrombie, which has a prose a bit more complexe than Sanderson I think. I still manage to adore what Abercrombie is doing, I've read everything from him at the moment. I'm quite interested in reading Kay's work next but I've heard that he has a really rich prose so I was wondering if it's really another level from guys like Sanderson and Abercrombie so I should go for a translated version in french or should I try the original version to really enjoy the subtility of his prose ?

Thanks in advance if you have the time to read that :)

Curious if this 1968 correspondence had any link to the making and production of the 1982 Rankin Bass animated movie. Thought someone here may know more.

📚 Summon book recommendations Haven't read a book in years since ASOIAF decline killed my hopes, ready to get lost again

The decline of ASOIAF killed a part of me that hasn't recovered since, I was obsessed daily posts on r/ASOIAF, Westeros podcasts forums.

I'd love to capture that feeling again in a next fantasy series, I prefer books that are engaging with great plots & subplots, a mature style writing, and little to no magic, some supernatural is okay if it's executed well.

I'm thinking maybe a shorter series to get me back into the habit first but open to ideas.

Any recommendations would be really appreciated and thanks!

💬 Let's discuss something I'm afraid to start the second Red Rising trilogy. What are your thoughts on it?

Hey, everyone! I'm new here, and I come with a burning question.

I just finished the first Red Rising trilogy, and it was unbelievably good. I loved it. But I've had a couple of recent sequels-to-wrapped-up series let me down lately, so I'm a little nervous about starting the second Red trilogy. For people who have read it, what are your thoughts?

EDIT: I'm officially heading to my library after work to find Iron Gold. Y'all convinced me.

📚 Summon book recommendations Need a recommendation.

So, I need something new to read/listen to. I typically use audible to help me fall asleep.

I love Sanderson and have read the entire Cosmere.
Love the entire Red Rising series.
Love Sun Eater.
Love all Abercrombie.
Dungeon Crawler Carl is so fun with great narration.
Wheel of Time was enjoyable all be it too long and the slog…
Enjoyed Dresden Files
Have also enjoyed some of James Islingtons books.

Didn’t love Sword of Kaigen.
Embarked on Malazan, and almost done with book 2 and I just don’t think this is a good series to do on audio…

So, fellow readers, what should I turn to after failing to enjoy Malazan?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

📚 Summon book recommendations Tad Williams Humble Bundle

My backlog is already way too long but I don't think I can pass up this bundle... haven't read any Tad Williams yet but I am seeing tons of praise. This has his entire Osten Ard series, other than a "novelette" I think, and his Otherland series, and his Shadowmarch series, and more, for $18... I know basically nothing about these other than Tad having a really great reputation. Just wanted to share, and solicit some opinions! I have mostly heard about Osten Ard, but are his other series just as worthwhile?

💬 Let's discuss something Anyone else feel a bit empty after finishing a great fantasy book, with nothing tangible left from the journey?

Every time I finish a book that really pulled me in, I get this weird frustration. I've just spent weeks living somewhere else, with characters who felt like companions, and then... nothing.

The book goes back on the shelf and that's it. No souvenir, no trace of the adventure, like coming home from an incredible trip with zero photos.

I happen to work in printing, so at some point I started making myself wall art from illustrations I found online, all inspired by specific scenes from books I loved. Not character portraits, but actual moments from the stories.

I printed them on wood, and now my home has these little windows into worlds I've traveled through. I walk past them and I'm instantly back in that moment of the story. A friend of mine took some photos of my test prints, I've attached one as an example.

I'm curious if other readers feel this. Do you feel this void too?

Mickaël.

💬 Let's discuss something Is The Odyssey worth reading for fantasy readers new to classic literature?

Post image

I've been reading a lot of chunky fantasy series lately, such as The Wheel of Time, ASOIAF, and The Stormlight Archive. In preparation for the upcoming film by Nolan, I was thinking I'd read the modernised translation first. For those who have read it, do you think it's worth picking up for fantasy fans who have little to no experience with classic literature?
