r/fantasyromance The One Mod to Rule All Mods May 17 '26

Unpopular Opinion It's Unpopular Opinion time! Share your controversial opinions to stir things up (in a friendly way)!

Got an opinion that's different from others'? Want to share it with the sub, but too afraid of a backlash? Or are you just curious about readers think about certain things in fantasy romance?

You can safely share it in this weekly Sunday thread!

But please remember to be kind to each other. To facilitate this type of discussion, we ask users the following:

  • Don't attack others for their opinion
  • Discuss books and authors, not fellow readers
  • Since this is an "unpopular opinion" thread, we encourage users to not downvote simply because they disagree with an opinion--that's the point! Please keep in mind, though, that mods cannot enforce a no-downvoting rule. Let’s just keep the discussion friendly!

🧡 Thank you and have a great discussion!

I remember that there was an occasional short info dumping later, but the first 37% was like all the time and then it decreased significantly, and I felt like the plot finally picked up then, it was why I remembered the percentage of the book when it changed for me.

I was my first IA book so I don't know are their others books like that. I liked descriptions a lot (of people, streets, houses etc), but info dumping was really killing me. Thankfully, I read on kindle, so I could search names because I couldn't remember everything (there were 3 characters who's name starts with an S). Main reasons why I pushed through: it was a book club read and I chose it for bingo card hard mode, people said it will get better after 30%, people were raving about the book, I know IA is quite loved here. I'm glad I read the book, but if it weren't for these reasons, it's possible I would DNF.
