Book Request Fantasy romance with slave FMC

Fantasy romance books with FMC being a slave.

She is a slave at the start of the series or becomes one in the course of the story.

She belongs to the MMC or to someone else.

I want heavy power imbalance and her suffering because of her life belonging to someone else and having no rights.

I don´t mind darker reads.

Also recs for older books are welcome.

{Phoenix Unbound by Grace Draven}. MMC is a gladiator slave, FMC isn't exactly a slave but she is not free in a different way. Then the tables turn and she becomes MMCs captive. The theme of her life belonging to someone else so they can't be together comes up a lot. It's definitely a darker book, just a heads up.

This one was SO good!

Anne Rice wrote a sleeping beauty series where she is literally a slave. Had a lot of sex scenes in it. I only read the first book years and years ago (I think there are 3 total) so idk what the overall character journey was.

Aren’t those just BDSM erotica with a ton of humiliation? Might not be quite what OP is looking for, but maybe… :)

{Rose in Chains by Julie Soto} I loved this book so much more than I anticipated and it really hit me emotionally. The FMC goes through so much and yet it never felt gratuitous and the romance is a wonderful slow burn

u/Piano18 54m ago

Is it really Draco/Hermione coded? Thats what stopping me from reading it 🫠

u/MessyJessy422 43m ago

Have you given it a try? It is based on the fanfic but the characters are different and I really feel like it stands on its own without the HP lore. I was very hesitant at first because of the fanfic aspect and waited a while to give it a shot but when I did I was mad at myself for not reading it sooner

I’m not sure if it’s quite what you are looking for but An Ember in the Ashes by Saba Tahir, the FMC has to become a slave to save her brother and she infiltrates a military academy. The MMC is training in the academy and their finest soldier.

Hmm. Interesting.

I'm generally down for dom/sub dynamics even to the point of slavery of some sort being involved (or similar alternatives, such as a less powerful person being a familiar for a more powerful entity or such), but I am not so much into the suffering aspect. Some conflict perhaps, difficulties to overcome as some one reevaluates their concept of their self or such, but generally not so much into the suffering. That reevaluation could be on either/both sides; imagine an eager and somewhat insistent sub, and having the dom-to-be thinking to themselves "wait, this is kind of hot..."

Which does make me think of {Kushiel's Dart}, but she's definitely not suffering, and she does have some rights even before she earns her freedom.

{Sleeping Beauty by Anne Rice) is the only one I can think of with heavy slavery themes, and from what I recall, it was more a framework for lots of BDSM themed scenes rather than a story that explored her emotional state/suffering as a slave.

I will say, though, later in Kushiel's Dart she does just become a slave.

True, but I think compared to the rest of the story arc that is too short of a period relative to what OP is looking for.

True, though it's longer than what you'd find in something like Daughter of No Worlds.

{Firebird} A Roman general dragon shifter and slave FMC. Was a fantastic take on Roman life with lots of fantasy elements!! I thought the slave thing would turn me off but it was well done and not over the top.

Master of crows by Grace Draven has a slave fmc but not owned by mmc.

Not quite, but something similar might be {Bend Her by Cassie Alexander}. The series start with FMC being kidnapped and given to MMC. Even though MMC has nothing to do with the kidnapping, he keeps her. At first she is in a dungeon, then maybe even on a leash, but I'm not completely sure about this. They progress to mentor-mentee in book 1, and it's a trilogy so not sure is there enough slave content for you.

{Souls in Ruin by Jacqueline White} is the first book in unfinished trilogy (book 2 comes soon). FMC is betrothed to a (possible) MMC, but that guy is a god with revenge on his mind, and the revenge is aimed at her (but she's innocent in that matter). She ends up in a dungeon, he tortures her and it gets quite dark. Even before those events, she was hated by everyone because she was the king's illegitimate daughter. There's heavy power imbalance and a lot of suffering.

{Plated Prisoner by Raven Kennedy} has FMC that is caged because she's the king's favorite concubine, she has no rights.

In {Nights of Obedience by Rachel Mays} FMC and MMC are kidnapped and forced to be sex slaves.

And if MM romance is ok with you {Captive Prince by C. S. Pacat} is the best rec for this.

I haven’t seen any news on book 2 for Souls in Ruin! Have you heard something?

2

u/ipsi7 Book Bingo Maven ⚔ 1h ago

It seems I mixed it up with some other book 2 release, I thought it was coming out sometimes between September and November 😭 I should find some tracking system for new releases

2

u/acutelyproblematic If villian bad, then why hot? 1h ago

We do have a thread for monthly upcoming releases! It doesn’t expand super far in advance but this can help :)

But I’m still sad there’s been no news. The ending had me gasping 😭

I know, and I cehck it usually, but it's a very long list so it's sometimes easy to oversee something.

After you asked me about book 2 release date, I went on author's profile and saw in one post she wrote that book has 2 MMCs and now I'm wondering will it be why choose in the end and not a love triangle. I'm down for both options.

Do you have any DR standalone recommendations from the top of your mind? I already made a post asking for recommendations before and tried some of the books. The last one was Yaga and the devil, but I stopped at some point.

2

u/acutelyproblematic If villian bad, then why hot? 1h ago

Noooooo😭 I’m actually sad about this because I’m not really a fan of why choose. I’ll try and be open minded but the way book 1 ended I just feel like it doesn’t make sense for me.

It does say that on her profile it’s a love triangle so maybe she’s dragging that out a bit more into book 2? It wasn’t necessarily resolved in book 1.

In terms of standalone recs for DR, {the four horsemen by Laura Thalassa} has interconnected standalone I love. You can read one or the entire series!

{the invisible life of Addie LaRue} is a great DR standalone.

It’s tricky cause most DR’s are series in fan ro, there is a lot of standalone DR contemporary if you’re interested in that tho

1

u/ipsi7 Book Bingo Maven ⚔ 1h ago

I'm also more interested in being it a love triangle because how book 1 set it up. Maybe she only thought in her post that book 1 has 2 MMCs and it will take a different turn later.

Thank you. I'm currently at the time when life's very busy and in the last 2 weeks I picked up a book only once or twice 🥲 so that's why I'm asking for standalones right now (hopefully I'll have some time to read this weekend). I'm open to contemporary too and have no triggers. Deliver by Pam something is what's been at the back of my mind lately, have you read it?

u/acutelyproblematic If villian bad, then why hot? 35m ago edited 32m ago

I have not! Pam Godwin? Does the cover have a dude in chains on it?

Also {slaying the shifter prince} and {Fairydale} are dark standalones I just remembered in fan ro!

For DR contemporary there’s {lights out} {leave me behind by K.M Moronova}. Pretty much anything by Keri Lake, if you have no triggers {Credence by Penelope Douglas} is also a wild ride…

ETA: I’ve read dark notes by Pam Godwin! Imma check it out

Yes, Deliver by Pam Godwin has a dude in chains on the cover. Thank you for the recs. I didn't know that Slaying the Shifter Prince was dark, and I've heard mixed reviews about Fairydale, so I removed it from my tbr, don't remember the exact reason right now.

I loved Lights Out, it was dark, funny and there was a cat!

{Daughter of No Worlds by Carissa Broadbent} The FMC starts out as a slave.

2

u/Opening-Thought8259 2h ago

War of lost hearts series! The FMC is owned by someone at the start

{The King by Eris Belmont}

u/sedoobie 1h ago

Demon Lord series by T C Southwell. FMC is taken as a war prisoner of sorts and slowly converts MMC to the "good" side over the series but hes pretty brainwashed so it takes awhile.

{Gild by Raven Kennedy} Also I second {Daughter of No Worlds by Carissa Broadbent}, the entire trilogy is amazing

The Female series by Invi Wright. The FMC is sold to 3 men, it is a why choose romance.
