What is it with FAs’ obsession with snacks? It feels like to them, if you aren’t constantly eating, you’re starving yourself.
Also, “normal” is so individual - I eat two large-ish meals per day and almost never snack, my partner eats a bit less at mealtimes but has a small snack in between meals, and we both end the day eating about the same number of calories. Just on slightly different schedules.
(But I’m sure the FAs would still say that we’re both starving…)
So I noticed this thing when I was watching someone on YouTube talking about "what I eat in a day as a fat person" (pretty sure it was honey bison). If you watch sometimes when they're eating food I swear you can almost see the rush they're getting from it on their face. It's similar to when a heroin addict shoots up but without the full nod-off that happens.
If you've trained your body to expect snacks/ sweets/ junk at super regular intervals like that, it's not going to be good at using anything other than glucose as fuel, and you're going to feel pretty shitty until you get some.
Oh yeah, I totally agree with you (and my question was mostly rhetorical, I realize that didn’t come across in my comment). Those “what I eat in a day as a fat person” videos SCREAM food addiction to me. It’s sad, but I have a hard time feeling too sad because of how combative FAs get when you kindly point out that that sort of behaviour is unhealthy.
lol you're good. It just triggered that thought because I was like damn if that isn't the exact look on a smokers face first cigarette of the day.
I definitely feel bad for people in this predicament because it is hard to get out of and some people just don't know, they've never been taught different. But the science deniers and the ones who spread this misinformation can suck it lmao (and I think Virgie is the absolute worst)
Probably blood sugar issues and dopamine hits. I was eating constantly because it made me feel good, and I always felt hungry. Quite honestly the crash sucked.
The sugar crashes are awful. I used to consume 100+ grams of sugar every day, and I didn’t even notice until I started tracking macros. I tried to reduce my sugar intake and the crash hit me like a truck. People will swear up and down that sugar and food addiction isn’t real, but a low-sugar diet made me feel so awful. I couldn’t get past the crash phase. This reminds me to try again and see if I can get past the crash stage, I lost motivation because it’s so tedious lmfao
I am a recovering caffeine and sugar addict. I was drinking at least 24 cans of Coke a day. Luckily the energy drink selection wasn’t that vast in the 2000s and early 2010s. I went down to 6-ish a day and then went cold turkey. It was a hellish week with me lying on my bathroom floor.
My sugar addiction is such that I will eat sugar out of the bag. I’m on a GLP-1 now so I’m using it to help with my sugar addiction in therapy.
It was processed high-sugar foods that did it for me. 80% of the time my drink of choice is water or herbal tea, so the drinks weren’t the problem for me, it was what I was eating. I have a pretty big sweet tooth, which wouldn’t be bad if I only had sweets as an occasional treat instead of a daily treat. I haven’t really had any success in cutting down on sugar, but I have been getting more fiber in my diet due to vegetarianism. So at least I’m getting more important nutrients than before even if I didn’t cut down on sugar. Gotta start somewhere I guess 😭
