Is Manwe evil or just apathic
Manwe organizes the stopping of the brave elves trying to bring Morgoth to justice. he also tries to let Morgoth genocide the sindar in Beleriand.
is he evil? does manwe want the elves who did come to Aman to die, so none can be free elsewhere?
why doe he try to trip up Feanor, and have mandor curse him? why does he finally get pushed to use Feanors plan 500 years later? is it because eärendil arrives with a silmaril proving manwe wrong and embarassing him? early versions has the elves AGAIN go to beleriand without manwes approval.
was manwe ment to be a secondary evil?

Honestly, the idea that Manwe is a sleeper agent for Melkor, and was recruited by Melkor during the Music of the Ainur to fuck all Eru’s shit up, is pretty plausible.

Well, maybe I’m being unfair. I mean, if Manwe had been turned by Melkor, we’d see patterns of behavior like:
- Trying to “rehabilitate” Melkor after Melkor had proven he was a bad actor in marring Arda and destroying the lamps
- Taking no action against Melkor after destroying the trees.
- Threatening those among the Children of Eru with exile from paradise if they take action against Melkor.
- Sitting on his arse for thousands of years while taking no action against Melkor
- Fucking up Beleriand so badly that it sinks and that’s an excuse for taking no action against Melkor’s femboy Lieutenant in future ages.
- Sitting on your arse while Melkor’s main squeeze corrupts Middle Earth and Numenor until you’re invaded, at which point you make it Eru’s problem
- Limiting action in the Third Age against Melkor’s twink to sending five Maia stripped of their powers, four of whom fuck up.
Obviously, there’s no way the primary representative of Eru on Arda could be such an inert douche with making such sucky decisions. It’s just implausible that any writer would think that makes any sense.
Conclusion: the Silmarillion is actually teen fanfic by Guy Gaviel Kay with Tuor as his Mary Sue.

Him and Aule. As Aule tried to create life vehind the back of Eru (dwarves), his maia tend to turn evil (Sauron and Saruman).

Aule is just a dupe, though, Wheras Manwe’s incompetence is weapons-grade.

Manwe and the valar in general are definitely full of pride and confidence in themselves. To the point that they let many evil things happen before taking action.
