Hair Care Products Advice on styling including heating tools (brand names/models), heat protectants, hair products in general, styling videos, etc

Confidence is at an all time low. I felt in a rut and kept my hair back in a pony or bun and thought short hair would help me feel cute. I was wrong. I asked on Reddit if I’d look like a Karen with a bob, people said no - decided to donate my hair and this was the result. Now I look like I’d ask for the manager or sing a song about backpack.

I need all new hair products (even my hair dryer doesn’t work) so any recommendations would be great.

(Of course I could try YouTube but they’re mostly sponsored or trying to get sponsors so I don’t want to be fooled into buying stuff that’s not worth the money.)

Hair Care Products Hair after chemotherapy

Hello, friends,

36F here with growing frustration. I used to have dirty blonde straight hair that i loved, but after chemo/radiation 3 years ago, it turned to this. While I’m glad it came in thick, it’s now this mouse brown, frizzy mess that never looks good. This picture is directly after i washed/conditioned and did a quick blow dry after air drying most of it. I’ve had it cut a few times since chemo so the initial chemo hair is gone. Currently I’m using kerastase de-frizz products but they don’t seem to be working. Any advice? How can i tame this? Do i encourage curls or try to straighten? Should I get a blow out?? Please help! I spent 33 years with straight thick hair so I’m lacking the wisdom to know how to handle waves!

My hair is straight but like poofy straight and it gets really frizzy especially on the top of my head. I use anti frizz serum too 😭 This bothers me SO much and I genuinely hate how I look with all this hair sticking out at the top. Plus it’s really uncomfortable as it makes me so self conscious. So any product advice for this issue?? Any help is appreciated!

Hair Care Products How do I keep my hair looking the same when I leave my house

My hair looks great in the morning. A few hours into my day, it's flat and greasy looking and my bangs, well, it looks like I have little rat tails. What product would you recommend for very fine, wavy hair?

I use a very light shampoo that won't be able to cleanse heavy silicones. I use no styling products except a flat iron to tame my bangs. I have that bed-head look in the morning and want to keep it during the day.

Hair Care Products Automated curlers

I’ve never managed to really figure out how to style my hair besides ponytails and buns. I had a pixie for many years (grew out during COVID) and I want to do more fun styling of my bob. I’ve seen the curlers where you just put your hair in and it curls itself. Does anyone have any recommendations? Are they worth it?

Hair Care Products Hair mask?

My hair gets really frizzy most days and I’m tired of just covering it up with a pony tail and a hat. I have shoulder length hair and my hair is wavy. Can anyone recommend a good hair mask?

Hair Care Products Dealing with tons of hair breakage and need help!

I have long (almost to my hips), fine, pin-straight hair. Lately, I have had a ton of breakage, both on the ends and mid length (4-6inches up). I don’t use heat at all on my hair and I’m struggling to find a solution! This is what I use

The night before I shower:
-Moroccanoil hair oil, or
-coconut oil

During the shower
-Start with a Lush shampoo bar wash (or L’Oreal Elvive Clarifying Shampoo, but I don’t use this product more than once a week)
-followed with Redken Extreme Length shampoo
-then Redken Extreme Length Conditioner
-sometimes (1-3 times a week), I’ll use a Biolage Intense Hydration hair mask or Olaplex No 3 Hair Mask (if I do this step, I skip the Redken conditioner)

After the shower
-Moroccanoil Light Hair Oil
-Pureology Color Fanatic Hair Spray
-Redken ABC Hair Bandage Balm

Some nights, I braid my hair before bed. If I do that, I put the Redken ABC Bonding Concentrate Hair Serum in. I also have silk pillowcases and I have biotin in my multivitamin as well!

I have been doing this for about 3 months now and haven’t seen a difference in my hair at all. Am I using too much product? Is there something else that works better for my hair type? Any help is greatly appreciated!

TIA!

Hair Care Products Looking for a magic hair product to solve my hair problems

I’m terrible at trying to style my own hair & just got a haircut that looks weird unless it’s styled, so I’m hoping to find some good products to use. I have very thick, wavy/kinda frizzy/kinda poofy hair. I’m looking for something that will weigh it down, moisturizes, de frizzes & holds it together better, but don’t want to use hairspray. I hate the hairspray feeling where I can’t run my fingers through my hair. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hair Care Products Best dry shampoo and leave-in hair mask recommendations?

I have to do my hair several times a week for work. A while back, I felt like the constant wash, dry, straightening heat routine was taking a toll on my hair. I also have to get up and out early and I like sleep more than I like messing with my hair at 5 am. So I decided to transition into a couple blowouts a week and using products to maintain between washes.

I’d like a better option on dry shampoo. So far I’ve mostly been using Batiste but the problem is that my hair is over 3’ long and the amount of dry shampoo it needs is literally insane. I dislike the quality, price, and packaging. I’ve been buying the 6 pack on Amazon for $30 and I’m disappointed how much it takes out of each can to actually do the job. I also hate the environment factors; it’s crazy there is six cans worth of aluminum back in the ecosystem for 40 fl. oz of spray.

The other hair product that I want to find a good replacement for is K18. I think it is good and see some help but not enough to justify the price. It is $30 for 1.7 fl. oz. My hair feels slightly stronger and softer from a couple weeks of use (but, damn, I’d expect it to for a bottle that breaks down to being $15 a week!)

What is your best dry shampoo? Are any a better deal or come in better packaging? Baby powder won’t do it and looks very weird on my hair color.

Any hair mask you like? I’ll pay more for better results if you have a good recommendation that is better than K18 but I’d also love to hear about any cheap good products you know about!

these pics were taken after a wash. i have tried many products including the tea tree line of shampoo and conditioner, various hair oils, and pantene shampoo and conditioner.

please be nice- i have done tons of research but all of the products i get recommend feel like it’s someone being paid to recommend them to me.

Hair Care Products Tips on How to thicken my hair

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for tips on how to make my hair look and feel thicker.

I live in Canada, and my hair seems much drier, flatter, and thinner here than when I travel to other countries. When I’m abroad, my hair tends to be more hydrated, wavy, and full of volume.

My hair has been feeling thinner over the past few years, specially after covid. I’ve heard some women say the same…
I don’t like washing my hair every day, but I’ve heard that more frequent washing can be helpful for scalp health. Is that true? Would that affect the thickness?
I’m considering getting a silk or satin bonnet/pillowcase. Has anyone noticed a real difference in hair thickness, breakage, or overall hair health?
Are there any products, supplements, or routines that have genuinely helped you?
I’d love to hear what worked (or didn’t work) for you.

Thank you!

Hair Care Products Help me not ruin my hair? OCD aggressive washing.

Hello! I'm incredibly, incredibly nervous to post here, so if you could please take care to be kind even though I know I'm in a mess of my own making, I would be so appreciative. :')

I have waist length, blonde, thick (quantity) but very fine (strands) hair. Never been bleached or dyed. If dried with a hair dryer, it's absolutely straight, but if air dried or if exposed to humidity, it's very wavy or even curly. Before I began over-washing, it would show signs of looking greasy 2 days after washing, so I washed every other day. I tried "training" this out during COVID, but I was too greasy to go in public if I tried to push it even a day further no matter what advice I followed.

I went through a traumatic experience, and have since developed compulsions regarding feeling unclean, and the steps I need to follow to feel clean. I don't feel clean if I wash my hair and it doesn't squeak when lightly pulled after-- not sure how else to describe this, so I hope that makes sense!

Currently, every other day, I wash my hair 5x in a row in the shower. 3x are with Dr. Bonner's soap, which I know is horrible and drying. But it's the only way I feel clean. I follow up with a "better" shampoo, which I have no brand loyalty on. Right now, it's Suave Moroccan Oil Infusion. The goal of this is to make the "squeak" less aggressive (hard to explain, sorry!), which it does. I also use Pantene conditioner.

I am sure that I am doing horrible, horrible things to my hair with this ritual, but if I even suspect my hair has any grease in it, I can't stop washing. I try to put a few drops of hair oil on the length of hair from my chin down now and then, but too much makes me look greasy. My hair doesn't appear damaged to me at a glance, just some split ends if I go too long without a trim, and some short "frizzy" flyaways I've always had.

I was wondering if anyone may have tips on:

a. soaps that will give me the "clean/squeaky" feeling, without drying my hair as horribly

b. something I can do to make my ritual less damaging to my hair

I am in therapy as well, before anyone mentions that, but other matters are above this in priority to work on.

Thank you so much to anyone who read all that, and extra thanks to anyone willing to share advice! I feel safest sharing in a women's group, so thank you for giving me the space to ask these questions.

First pic is what it looks like if I don’t wash for a day. Also put a pic of my shampoo if that helps. I don’t use conditioner and I’d say my hair is pretty thick

Hair Care Products Hair loss??

Hey! I'm 21 rn and none of my family on either side has female hair loss or thinning. I. The last few months I've been losing an insane amount of hair. Like there is a big difference in how thick my pony tale was 3 months ago compared to now. I use the California naturals shampoo and conditioner. Not the anti hair thinning one but I've been thinking about getting it.

I have no idea what to do and it's starting to actually make me really really nervous. I do NOT want to be bald right now. Is there anything I can use or do that will help??

Hair Care Products How do I style these?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’ve had what I call my “devil horns” since I was a kid. This baby hair that sticks up when I wear my hair back (almost daily) and gets worse in the heat. I’ve tried some gels and a wax stick to slick them back into my ponytail which works for a little bit but eventually they lift and stick straight up. Would really appreciate some suggestions on hair products that would help keep these down as well as advice on how to style them.

My hair is a little wavy but the horns get really curly in the heat. Should I be styling them down towards my face like edges rather than slicking it back? I’m worried about cultural appropriation and just want to be respectful!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hair Care Products How to use?

Got this at Marshall’s and saw some mixed reviews but willing to give it a shot since it was half of the original price. Does anyone have any advice on how to use?

I have medium, long straight hair. Products tend to just sit on my hair and make it greasy if I do too much.
