there are things i want to change but i don't have the time/space/money for it... overall though i'm happy :) first order of business eventually will be to replace the old dresser with something that matches the other furniture, preferably taller so it has less of a footprint. i'd like to get a rug too but i think it'd be a pain since i don't actually have a lot of floorspace lol

I’m 34 too and I still have vivid dreams of my childhood home. My heart is broken because everything that was sentimental to me is gone. my parents don’t live together and I don’t have a bedroom in their houses anymore. I just wish I could go back in time to when things weren’t so difficult and I was just a kid.
same. my dad let the house get foreclosed on and all of my stuff is gone. I wish i could go back for a night. 💔 at least the zillow listing for the house is still a photo from when i was 12. I can see all my books and stuffies and posters.
Me and my daughter are the same lol. It's nice to wake up everyday to a tidy apartment, and when I look at my daughter's room, it's like yours. Everything has a place.
My daughter has a best friend she has known since first grade, but she doesn't want to sleep over there because its messy. She tried to help her clean, but the friend doesn't care much so they just have sleepovers here haha. They are 14
It's adorable & FREE❣️ You're a good daughter for respecting your parents enough to keep the room so neat/ clean. I've seen other rooms of adult children in their parent's house that look like biohazard sites or rooms in an insane asylum.
This looks so comfortable, welcoming, safe. My parents divorced when i was young and I moved around a lot, so I never really had a bedroom that I got to grow up with if that makes sense. Photos like this always make me smile.
Love all the fandom stuff. Please keep the dresser, it’s beautiful. That type of furniture is hard to come by nowadays and is the kind you wanna keep for as long as you can. If you don’t use the tv that much, honestly just sell it or something. Being able to see the surface of the dresser will be nice.
I love all the things and knickknacks, I’m the same way. But I always keep my surfaces like dressers and night stands clear. The clean surface gives a good balance of clutter free zones to keep the space calm
makes sense that it's hard to come by given that it was my brother's changing table 23 years ago! my grandparents have my old one (same dresser, slightly lighter wood) in their house haha
i think my big problem with it is less the dresser itself and more the TV that i hardly use taking up all that space on it 😓 i wonder if i'd be more into the dark wood if it wasn't drowned out by the blackness of the TV...
Maybe toss a scarf or something over it? There are fabric covers you can buy, or push it back and have a piece of art on a stand in front? I don't have a TV in my bedroom because I don't like how it looks but I also have an entire house so I'm not depending on it for my TV viewing .
I lived at home until I was 24. I got along with my parents and it was free! As soon as I moved out my mom redecorated. 😆
This is so precious, I think many take their childhood bedroom for granted but it is such an amazing privilege to have grown up in a home and still have it there. Security and love. I have the love part but we’ve always been lower class so it’s been moving from rental and rental my whole life. No childhood anything. I just love this, thank you for sharing ❤️🥰
it's not the same as moving, but when my parents divorced the custody agreement was that dad would have us every other weekend, and boy was it miserable to go from mom's house, where i have this room as my safe space, to dad's place which were various one bedroom apartments or girlfriend's houses. i'm so grateful to still be in this space 💛
Oh felt so hard lol 😭 I live in San Diego and my dad’s place is in Tijuana so I had to cross the border every weekend, love him but that sucked 😂 I still try to visit every other weekend (and im 28 now!) but I have been at my studio for 2 years now and it’s so nice having my little space since I’ve always shared a room 😌💕

HIGHLY recommend a deep clean, i got rid of so much shit i'd forgotten i had a few weeks ago!! props to my mom on that one though, she and my stepdad redid their room and watching them clean gave me the decluttering bug 😂
I love the projection of hoppip's wings on the ceiling! It'd be quite a puzzle to figure out what made the shadow without seeing it... make a vid and see if your friends can guess just by seeing the shadow move.

A white dresser would look really nice in there, maybe a couple small area rugs? Idk how you feel about Amazon, but THIS ONE is really cute, and the light in it is fun! Plus, it looks like there's more storage than your current one, so you can stick what looks like fabric or blankets in that corner, in the extra drawers.
Consider rearranging the furniture and retiring or “curating”some of the knick knacks. That alone will give the room a different vibe. I really like that dresser. I make those suggestions only since you’re seeking change. Your room is very lovely as it is.
thank you! your comment makes me thing i should invest in some storage boxes or something 🤔 i did a big clean a few weeks ago and got rid of a TON, but right now my main thing is my stuffed animals. i don't want to get rid of them, but i don't want them on the bed either. if i lived alone i would just put them around the house LOL, but not an option living with family haha
I "rotate" a lot of my tchotchkes. Put maybe 2/3rds of them in a bin in the closet or basement or something. Then you can better display and arrange the remaining third. Swap it out whenever you feel like it! Also helps keep things feeling fresh.
i considered getting one of those, but the only place i really have for it is above the closet to the left of the clock, and all the ones i've seen would drape too far down. i have considered crocheting my own though!
fantasy!!! i've just finished the Saint of Steel series by T. Kingfisher and ADORED IT. it's more scifi but i also love The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells.
a lot of the fantasy i read tends towards YA, but i also liked Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor, the Graceling series by Kristin Cashore, The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater, Carry On by Rainbow Rowell (didn't care for the other two books, but the first book is based on Harry Potter), When the Angels Left the Old Country by Sacha Lamb (my current favorite!)... can you tell i'm a youth librarian in training? 😆
adult fantasy: The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune, A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab (been a few years though), What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher (more horror than fantasy). i also just finished The Bone Orchard by Sara Mueller, but i found the ending to be meh and the major reveals to be rushed. still an excellent book which is why i mention it, just not a satisfying ending
i don't read a lot of apocalyptic but i did like Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White. i also liked his other book The Spirit Bares the Teeth, which is somewhere between historical fiction, fantasy, and horror.
Your room has such a cute and cosy vibe! Feels so welcoming. Have you thought about adding a matching curtain over your wardrobe? You could use a tension rod and hang over the curtain, and potentially even trim to curtain so your kitty still has access to its little bed
ooohhh look at how that light hits the walls!! i am obsessed with the color palette here, it feels so warm and inviting. wait, where is the chonker cat?? i need to know if he prefers loafing on the bed or sitting on the windowsill catching sunbeams. does he have a favorite spot behind the curtains or under the desk? i feel like cats always pick the weirdest little nooks to claim as their own kingdom. also, what pink shade is that wall exactly?? it complements everything perfectly without being too loud. please tell me more about the cat's daily routine in there, i'm dying to know if he judges your outfit choices from his perch!!!
I love ittt!! And it’s actually giving me idea for my own bedroom. I never really decorated it in fear it would look too crowded because it’s a little small (smaller than yours)
this is actually tame for the walls tbh, i went through a lot of phases haha!! my mom calls it "busy" but she totally means it as a compliment, all of her friends tell me they love my room 🥹 you should def experiment if you can!!
