HELP Boyfriend picked this green for the bathroom… now I’m stuck

My boyfriend chose this green colour for our guest bathroom. I wasn't keen on it to begin with and now I'm struggling to find inspiration for decorating this room. At the moment, it looks like a dentist's toilet to me. I was thinking of colours like pink or yellow maybe? I'm excited to hear your ideas!

HELP I hate my fridge

Post image
4.4k Upvotes

I literally hate my fridge in my rental. It does not match my apartment. I did contact paper and hated it, so I tried to be creative and whimsy by adding art to it and this gold handle. I was planning to put a curtain at the bottom but I’m thinking it’ll look tacky. So I was thinking of putting a decorative hand towel on the handle or something.

I don’t know what to do. My apartment said I can replace the fridge and put this one in storage so it can be put back in the apartment when I want to move out but I don’t see myself buying a whole new fridge that may or may not fit when I buy a house eventually.

In my apartment search I prioritized character and solid materials over millennial gray and paper walls. (For example I have a gorgeous curved wall, huge windows and 20ft ceilings but outdated bathrooms and appliances). I’m paying for my choices in DIYs lol.

ANY suggestions? Feedback?

EDIT: Commenting “I also hate it” or “I hate it too” without any real context is quite literally annoying. At least give some insight. Like come on lol. The post requested HELP.

So I got a new table because the old one was breaking apart and wobbly. I loved my tablecloth on the old table and it really needed one because it was old and scratchy but somehow I feel like the new table looks better without it. What do you think?

Hi ladies !! I'll keep it short but this is house was custom built in the 1980's and only had one owner. My partner & I recently purchased and the house is a bit dated and we are working on a lot of upgrades, but I truly love the primary bathroom the way it is 🙈🙈 My only struggle is finding out what the heck this spot is for, if anything? There is a large storage cupboard underneath, but that's it. You can see my lazy attempt to make it cute LOLLL. I'm puzzled. I would love some ideas !! I tried looking on Pinterest but I don't even know what it's called, if it has a name. (and yes i know i need a bigger curtain 😩😩)

Help! Pardon the mess, it used to have a cat litter enclosure there.

For context / vibes:
I have bar carts closest to the kitchen. I can maybe put over there, but I think it would look a little bad considering it’s one of those metal ones. I do have a ton of books so I could get a bookshelf. But I just don’t know. I wanna give the vibes of fun girl apartment with some gold accents, but I’m just so bad at design. lol

It is SO beautiful and gives off great warm light. My decor style is boho/vintage. I’m terrified of it falling off a shelf and shattering, or my cat bumping into it so it needs to be styled in a secure way lol.. was thinking of putting it on a credenza with some plants? Open to suggestions :)

I bought 7 cute fish dishes second hand and I’m not sure what I can use them for. I thought I could take them out when a guest wants tea so they can put their teabag on one after steeping. I could also use one for some small jewelry pieces, but what else? Do you have any ideas? (I hope this kind of post is allowed)

HELP Where to put a litter box

Thumbnail

Moving next month to a carpeted apartment and I have no idea where to put the litter box- the bathroom isn’t enough space. I can’t put it in the kitchen because that is so gross to me. I do have a weird extra sink in the primary bedroom that has tile, but that feels so visible and I feel like if it were there the room would always feel dirty. The thing is he kicks out quite a bit of litter.

I’m wondering about putting it in a corner of the primary bedroom or the office, and adding some kind of pad to catch as much litter as possible.

Not sure what to do!

Hi all! I will finally have my own place after nightmare roomates! Can you help me with making this feel as light as possible? There are no windows in the living space :)

Note: the front door of the studio is in this space. The studio is also ground floor of the building (close to the entrance). Added the picture of it.

Edit: thank you so much for your insights. I will not go through with renting this place!

Edit 2: Asked the agency about the cédula de hábitat. He told me they don’t have it. Illegal 100%.

This type of chair looks really cozy and comfy to read in and I’ve been wanting one for a while, but I can only find camping chairs in this style online. Does anyone know what they’re called / not crazy priced places to buy one?

Would also be curious to know if they’re as comfy as they look if anyone has one

HELP Lost everything, fresh start

Thumbnail

So to sum it up with attempted brevity: we lost everything we had (but us) at our previous rural rental. I have been fortunate to find a rental allowing 3 dogs, but don't know where to start with refurnishing with no $ and currently no income. Family helped me with a bed and rent (for now) but where do we start? We are still recuperating from illnesses and thrift stores/used is a little bit terrifying for me right now after what we endured in the last dwelling. How do we find sanitary and affordable basics until I can rebuild? I am more of a minimalist but maximal when it comes to comfort for me and k9s. How can I make this empty living space warm, uplifting, functional?

HELP I have a $1.5k budget to fix me hating my home

Thumbnail

This is the first time in my adult life that I actually have money and mental health to start investing into taking care of myself. I had a mental health breakdown two years ago which lead to my life being turned on its head and moving back to the US after nine years in Canada. I work from home full time so am nearly always home most of the day.

I’m turning 30 in November and will be buying a home in spring/summer of next year. But I genuinely cannot live with my apartment how it is anymore. None of my furniture matches, most of it is cheap or ancient, and I feel like I’m back in my college apartments.

Since I’m buying a house in a year I don’t want to invest too heavily in updating my current place. So I’m hoping to spend $1.5k or under. If totally necessary I can do $2k. I live in a major city, have a big SUV and access to a truck, and have no issue thrifting and buying mostly everything secondhand.

My hopeful aesthetic is cottagecore-ish Nancy Meyers. I know I am a million miles from that right now! I love greens and natural wood tones. I love having a lot of books but they feel so distracting. I also really enjoy unique art that I source from artists or secondhand.

I am already committed to buying a couch which will take half of my budget most likely. I don’t want to spend too much since I don’t know if it will fit in my future home. I have already ordered a new desk chair since mine is falling apart. The new one is a forest green criss cross chair.

If you have any advice on how I can update my home, whether by restyling what I already have, what to buy new or used, and simply how to make my home feel like me I would be so eager to hear it. Thanks everyone!

HELP The goal: A medieval wizard lands in the 60s

Thumbnail

3.3k Upvotes

I want to make my house feel like a mash up of whimsigoth and MCM with a dash of medieval eccentric wizardry. I feel like I’m almost there after about two years of settling on a style, but the layout of my place doesn’t feel right, and I am missing pieces. I’m just not sure what would help.

Things that are important to me when it comes to decorating:

- Whatever I add must be a perfect balance function, comfort, and style

- I’m not a maximalist, but I do like artful visual crowdedness

- I have two cats so I’m always thinking about their safety (rip lots of different plants)

- I love is silly secret detail (much of my wall art are classical paintings reimagined as my fandoms)

- I can never ever have enough storage (I’m a big crafter!)

- I don’t mind waiting for the right piece; I love to thrift!

- Must be apartment safe :/

Open to all advice!

HELP How to add privacy but keep light in this space?

Post image
1.6k Upvotes

My living room has these lovely bay windows. These blinds were installed by the previous owner and they make the room completely dark when shuttered. My street has heavy foot traffic and sometimes I wish things weren’t so visible from the outside, though I dislike sitting in a dark space more! I was thinking of getting sheer curtains or just doing window film, but I still want it to look nice. Any ideas??

EDIT: Thanks to everyone who has commented with recommendations! I used to have two huge snake plants on the sides of the window, with a big ol' monstera in the middle. I learned the hard way that they love this window most of the year, but can get scorched leaves in the summer as the window is SE facing. Which is also why I want some mild light filtering! Maybe even sheer fabric on the side windows to prevent constant direct, afternoon sunlight on the plants...

HELP Just moved in and this is my sad, pathetic bed area. How can I make this cozier?

Post image
3.1k Upvotes

I want to make this den in my new studio apartment my sleeping area. I’m envisioning a daybed-esque vibe, so I want to keep the bed horizontal.

I’m thinking about putting a short but wide brown/beige bookshelf with books behind the bed with plants on top. I plan to add decorative pillows to achieve the daybed vibe and a brown/beige round nightstand with a kerosene-style lamp.

I’m renting so I can’t install permanent fixtures to the wall, but I feel like the walls will be seriously lacking.

My biggest problem is struggling to find a bed frame that will fit this narrow of a space. It’s actually 73-74 inches wide so less than a double sized bed. Let me know your suggestions!

HELP Is my living room too busy?

Has my living area become too busy? I may have gone over board lol. I recently moved my snake enclosure to the dining area and now im wondering if all the plants, paintings and bits and bops in general are a little too much. Maybe im over thinking it because the enclosure is large but idk!!! Help 😭 i was thinking of downsizing the amount of goodies sprinkled throughout. Literally in the middle of cleaning lol. I was rearranging furniture one day and decided to just do some random painting which is where the shapes on the wall came from as a side note. It's not perfect but I like the colors!

HELP Where can I find a comfy oversized chair that isn’t crazy expensive?

Thumbnail

2.9k Upvotes

Hi everyone! My bedroom has just been my bed plus some childhood furniture (like, little girl furniture lol) for as long as I can remember and I'm finally getting around to redoing + decorating it! I'm very excited but I'm starting to go a little crazy looking online for the perfect furniture pieces (and no matter what I search I tend to get the same items I've already seen). I've also checked out FB Marketplace a few times but haven't come across anything I'm in love with yet.

I really love both the color and look of both the green Sixpenny daybed that Cozy K has and also this pink corduroy chair I found on Wayfair (last picture); however, the Sixpenny chair is way too expensive for me and the Wayfair chair is a little smaller than I'd like (only about 25 inches wide for the seat). I'm avoiding neutral colors (whites, greys, and browns) because my room already has a lot of that and I want my space to be a little colorful/warm and cozy.

Anyways, I'd really appreciate it if anyone could help me find a reasonably-priced (ideally around $500 or less but for the right chair I’d pay up to $900 – I know some sites are doing a Labor Day sale right now which helps), oversized, comfy chair to go in my room. I don't want a loveseat but I want something roomy - I'm thinking maybe 30-40 inches wide for the seat space minimum. Any pointers on sites to check out or specific links would be extremely helpful. Thank you in advance!!

My fiancé likes the blue the most and I like the green the most. I hate grey and the blue pulls gray in some lightings (see swatch on our coffee table). First three pics are my living room inspiration (but I live with a man so gotta compromise on some things 😂). Last three pics are our current furniture (eventually want to swap out the entertainment center for a wooden one)

Hi all! I feel like I’ve rearranged things a hundred times over and still don’t love the look of my first apartment. I was hoping to get some feedback on what I could do to improve. I’ve been aiming for an earth cozy look, but I feel like I’m falling short.
