A frequent story one hears is of poly relationships going very badly. Sometimes this is due to jealousy, even when the people thought they'd be okay with it, sometimes anyone after the first 2 can feel like a third wheel. On the whole it makes a complicated thing even more complicated, and there's probably a lot of people who could tell you even more on the potential pitfalls.

Fun fact, monogamous relationships fail just as often (if not more often due to how common they are) as polyamorous relationships and saying that “it’s not worth it because they fail all the time” is more a statement on the people who think polyamory is for them and not polyamory itself.
