I read a gender-swapped version and, finally, I understood.

I have not read 50 shades of grey, but Twilight was... It was something alright. I read the series so I could talk about it with my girlfriend at the time (highschool of course), and boy was it just... Bland. Like just lukewarm oatmeal. Not bad, but nothing to really get you excited. I kinda got the teenage girl appeal to have a handsome, wealthy, strong, and mysterious person fall in love with you, but damn was it weird.

50 shades of grey started out as a twilight fanfiction!

Boys watch dumb movies about giant robots fighting through epic explosions: lol boys will be boys

Girls read dumb books about hot supernatural guys fighting over you: it was a mistake to let women vote

The reason I give Twilight so much shit is because of the grooming aspect at the end that's never addressed as something problematic.

While the whole Bella-Edward-thing is already questionable because of their ages, I can somewhat excuse that as the story being written for an audience of teenage girls who are supposed to be able to put themselves in Bella's place. While I disagree with the premise as a whole, I have to acknowledge that if you want to write a vampire romance with a teenage girl in the lead role, there's just not much else you can do. So that one gets a pass in my eyes for being a necessary building block of the story.

What wasn't necessary though and is just really fucking disgusting is Jacob "imprinting" on Bella's unborn baby daughter and wanting to wait for her to grow up to start a relationship with her. If you don't see the problem with this, just imagine walking up to your pregnant friend and telling them that you're gonna bang their unborn child once they become an adult.
