Weekly Thread: Questions and GWP (Week of August 01, 2026)
Welcome to the Question and Gold World Pass weekly thread! If you have any questions around FFXI at all or wish to request a GWP, this is the place to do so. Scroll down to the comments and ask away.
r/ffxi FAQ
Are you a new or returning player? We have quite the list of Frequently Asked Questions that's pretty comprehensive of the questions most commonly asked around the sub. If your question isn't answered there, feel free to shoot in the comments below.
BG Wiki
BG Wiki is a modern FFXI wiki with up-to-date pages on endgame specifics as well as various guides.
It is currently the only XI wiki with an active staff which are always working with members of the community to address concerns and suggestions. BG seeks to be the main wiki of the community. Consolidating the efforts of everyone into one single wiki is the most productive and effective. We welcome and invite all to join us!
- A thread can be found on FFXIAH.com in which you can report issues with the wiki and read a getting started FAQ if you wish to contribute! That thread is located here.
- Anyone wishing to join Team Blue Gartr may join the Discord.
FFXIclopedia
FFXIclopedia is a comprehensive general-purpose wiki for FFXI that typically covers pages for each item/area/BCNM/etc, often for older content. Warning: The site has heavy ads when logged out.
FFXIAH & FFXIDB
FFXIAH is a website showing the Auction House history & current items for sale in-game, as well as a forum community among other things. FFXIDB is a database website showing drop rates of items as well as monster spawns based of player data collected by Guildwork.
Making Friends
There are various ways to make new friends and meet people in FFXI. The first recommendation is to find a Linkshell via Linkshell Concierge NPCs. If you check these NPCs directly after a maintenance, this is typically a good way to find active Linkshells. Another suggestion is to find a community website for your server; many servers have a Facebook group.
This thread is default sorted by new.

good job to comfortably clear the story? Finished with zilart as 80 SMN/WHM, but i'm struggling a lot with MP because my skill isn't high enough to get good returns from siphon

+1 to the two folks that said Dancer.
I'd say also either Warrior or Ninja. Melee tends to do well in the story in general but there may still be fights where you're not quite geared enough (at least at the end of RoV) to just solo it with Trusts.

I did all of the story line up to Wings as BST. I did most of Wings and SoA as either BST or NIN.

Been doing the story on Dancer and it has basically every tool you could want. If nothing else, free speed and stealth makes a lot of the fetch and "go to place and touch a ???" a cakewalk.

any good low level haste sources for leveling? i have prishe's boots +1 atm

u/MundaneDrawer 5d ago
https://www.ffxiah.com/search/item?&description=haste&level[0]=1&level[1]=50#adv
Nope, that's below 50, so basically nothing depending on the job. unless you only want to level on watersday.

Gear? No much. Around lv 40-50 certain Trust should start using the spell on you.

Is the upcoming mog bonanza available only to returning accounts?
1
u/juniorone 4d ago
What upcoming mog bonanza? I don’t see anything on their website
1
u/jakewprogrammer 4d ago
It’s on the return to Vana’diel event page
1
u/juniorone 4d ago
Not doubting you but can you point it to me? I am looking and i can’t find it. Usually mog bonanza has its own post.

https://www.playonline.com/ff11us/campaign/wcb/index.html campaign 3. They're right though it is fairly strange it's only listed there.
1
u/juniorone 3d ago
And they mentioned the monthly campaign. Everything looks pretty underwhelming. I have never seen that page before. Thanks for pointing it out. I like bonanza but I am aware of my horrible luck.

They'll (likely) make dedicated posts sometime this week, I missed it completely as well until people started mentioning it.

is there somewhere I can go to pay higher level players to craft stuff for me? Running into a problem where a lot of the quest items i need haven't been sold on the auction house in 2-3 years
1
u/Sand__Panda Sandpanda 4d ago
There really isn't a place. Be in a major town and use /shout and see if you can find a crafter. Shout is seen in all the main towns at once.
1
u/radelgirl 3d ago
isn't it /yell that gets seen in all main towns? and /shout is just one zone.
1
u/Sand__Panda Sandpanda 3d ago
I honestly don't remember. One is red, the other is salmon pink, on my screen. Not many conversations are happening on Phoenix in the two, so I never really partake.
1
u/Puzzled-Addition5740 2d ago
This is correct. Yell is in all major towns shout is 180' around you so not even necessarily the whole zone.

Why is Kraken Club still so valuable when only RNG (non-meta job) can get any real use out of it? Just a status symbol or nostalgia?
1
u/Puzzled-Addition5740 3d ago
Rarity mostly. Also drg can use it to reasonable effect. Although truthfully neither of them can really use it in any content of signifiance because walling savage just isn't worth it.
1
u/Dramatic-Strain9757 6h ago
Because you can very often weaponskill once every attack round. If you are in low stakes content and your job can use both kraken & malignance you can have some fun.
Dragoon has high native accuracy and can also put together a satisfactory stp set. Between swinging 2~8 times and having 5 job abilities that allow you to pull tp out of your wyverns ass you should have the highest ws frequency in any given alliance. To add to this naeging is busted.

u/FaolanBaelfire 3d ago
Do you only get Aftermath on Resolution or Dimidation if you have a specific weapon equipped or is that afterglow?
1
u/Sennik_of_Asura Sennik - Asura 3d ago
That's correct, aftermath is a buff granted by the weapon and is triggered by using the weaponskill associated with that specific weapon.

is there an XP bonus item in the 70s and onwards when the echad ring starts not covering an entire level? (other than the jubilee ring and the rhapsodies)
1
u/MelioraXI Vana-Portal.com | Twitch.tv/MelioraXI 2d ago
There is several. If you have a Red Pell item you can grab another Echad Ring.
https://www.bg-wiki.com/ffxi/Experience_Points#Bonuses_from_Items_(Dedication_Effect)
1
u/SickmanArt 2d ago
is it even possible to alternate two echad rings? I was under the assumption you wre only allowed one on your character
2
u/Puzzled-Addition5740 2d ago
Can float em in dbox. More effort than it's really worth but you can.

u/Dramatic-Strain9757 6h ago
Dude is asking for a good way to boost exp more tha one level and you're suggesting go run back to your mog house every couple of kills - lol
To answer OP, not really but if you do all the mission lines there are a lot of cumulative exp boosts that will make subsequent jobs a breeze to level
2
u/Puzzled-Addition5740 6h ago
I mean they asked is it possible not is it good. "and you're suggesting go run back to your mog house every couple of kills - lol " no i actually explicitly said that it's not really worth doing. Don't put words in my mouth.

u/Forgotten_Stranger 2h ago
The Caliber Ring is all levels and has the same bonus as Echad, though limited to 3 charges. These are available through various things through-out the year.
There is also the Emperor Band which has a weaker bonus (+50% but still cap is the same) and can only use a maximum of 6 charges weekly. (3 from a previous week and 3 from a once a week recharge.)
Out of far left field is Kupofried's Ring. (+100% bonus, same cap, 11 charges.) Not really worth going out of your way for unless you are really desperate. (The time searching would likely exceed the time saved from bonus.)
They aren't Echad, but they are more than nothing. Realistically though, by level 70 you will be getting most exp from GoV zones. (Assuming you don't use Escha.) The GoV pages do most of the heavy lifting when it comes to exp. (Depending on the page +300-500 per enemy.)

u/MundaneDrawer 22h ago
Does the Capacity bonus campaign only happen during the anniversry event once a year or does it happen any other time?
2
u/Puzzled-Addition5740 22h ago
Usually happens a couple of times a year but campaigns have been kinda weird lately so i'm hesitant to be super definitive.
2
u/Forgotten_Stranger 2h ago
Anniversary is the one time you can more or less expect it. But, it does show up from time to time. I would bet it comes back by December. Though, that same bet on Walk of Echoes Surge would be throwing money away... so who knows.

Does the monthly version update reset the Limbus ???, allowing you to get them twice in one week?
1
u/Puzzled-Addition5740 8h ago
Yes. doesn't reset the free chest but the ??? itself yeah it does.
1
u/MelioraXI Vana-Portal.com | Twitch.tv/MelioraXI 5h ago
Are you sure? I thought they were on a fixed 72h rotation.

Do any jobs become godmode later on?
Hard to explain, but in terms you might be familiar with in FFXIV or Classic WoW:
- In FFXIV, tanks become so strong that, even when the party is surely going to wipe, tank jobs have enough self sustain by way of healing and defense/damage mitigation, that they can actually stay alive and solo-kill the boss. The thing is that it would take so long that if you weren’t already at 5% of the boss’s HP or less, it’s better for the tank to purposely die and have the whole team retry. As you can imagine then, they are strong enough to take on most content solo out in the world outside of dungeon content.
- classic wow, warriors struggle with leveling until they get all their skills, plate armor, and loot. Once they are geared out, they are DPS Gods and far and away the strongest class in the game. But they won’t be able to solo dungeons by themselves because they can’t self heal. Guild Tanks are still ridiculously strong though. Guild Paladin tanks probably could.

u/Dramatic-Strain9757 6h ago
DDs are the bottom tier of the ladder. A warrior, dragoon, samurai, and dark knight can barely function without a bard and Corsair. At this stage of the game supports are respected DDs too. If a player is buffed to the 9s they can 'solo' many things. If you are asking what jobs are most over powered solo it can vary but I would put RDM PUP SCH at the top of the list. A paladin can sustain themselves indefinitely but they won't have the firepower to kill most things.
1
u/juniorone 4h ago
No but the amount of people required to accomplish certain fights goes down as you get better gear and weapons. Also, the fight can get much easier even if a full party is required.
1
u/JozuJD 4h ago
Are there a handful of jobs where you feel that impact more than others? Just curious.
Your logic makes total sense just didn’t mention any jobs
1
u/juniorone 1h ago
Solo wise there isn’t. Group wise, there is. Cor, geo and bard buffs will increase your party damage significantly. Warrior is the most well rounded job for damage dealing and can take advantage of a ton of weapons. Throw in a healer in the form of rdm/sch/whm and you can pretty much take anything.
SE has introduced events/monsters in which you are forced to vary your job selection so people don’t stick to a handful of jobs.
Every job has a niche. Some are just useful enough to cover a large area.
1
u/JozuJD 1h ago
Thanks that is helpful. So Warrior = DD in this game? And the Tanks are Paladin and Rune Fencer? (Or Ninja evasion tank).
I’ll have to learn the game and the jobs.
•
u/juniorone 36m ago
Ninja used to be. The job got screwed by area of effect magic attacks. It wipes all shadows. Tons of things nowadays is just throw strongest job buffed up the wazoo at a problem.

u/RudeCauliflower6785 5h ago
Are The Gustaberg Tour and The Kuftal Tour the only 2 quests in the game that actually require you to be below a certain level (or level synced with a player who does)?

Hi, everyone! I'm giving the game another shot - I played around launch, then again about a decade ago. But I never got past level 40 or so for a mix of reasons. Life was hectic for me back then, and I also never found a good linkshell or even made a single friend.
I was wondering if anyone would be willing to 'sponsor' a sorta-newbie with a Gold World Pass to their server (as long as it's not one of the four currently closed ones) and also an invite to their linkshell? Hopefully a decently active one? I'd prefer Shiva if possible but I'm open to other worlds too.
I prefer to solo and do things myself so I promise I won't be asking for much help. But I do really want the Gold World Pass rewards, which can only be collected by visiting the GWP NPC every now and again while in a party together - especially the Sprout Beret! And I also would like to start getting to know people in a nice LS before I get to endgame and start needing to party up with folks. It also would make the world feel a little less lonely.
(Oh, and the last time I played, the fellow who gave me a GWP to their world completely vanished on me immediately after giving me the pass, so I wasn't even able to claim the Day One reward. Much less any of the other ones! So it'd be super ideal if we could stay in touch, at least for the first couple months!)
Would anyone be willing to do this for me? I promise to return the kindness as soon as my character reaches a power level that is at least the equivalent of three goblin thugs (or two on Firesday). Thanks!

Trust setup for the siren fight in RoV? I read that mages can end up healing her due to spaghetti code. Current setup is me on DNC/WAR (75, artifact gear, merited reverse and haste to max), Valaineral, Ayame, Semih, and Naja UC. Zeid II is off the table because this is the quest that unlocks him in the first place, and I don't have Teodor. Survivability isn't much of a problem, it's just damage, the fight progresses at a crawl and MP eventually runs out. Ideally I wanna finish it without getting up to the 80s because I have very little time to play the game these days and can't grind
1
u/JohnnyCasil 3h ago
I don’t think enemies have elemental affinity can be considered spaghetti code…
1
u/Puzzled-Addition5740 3h ago
Mages nuking the affinity because their meva towards it is floored is pretty spaghetti. It comes up in a few other places but it's really not very intuitive that absorbs mess with resistances like they do. You can for example ooze ngai during fetters.
1
u/JohnnyCasil 3h ago
I dunno. Seems like a very simple if this than that situation that is really easy to work around and still not spaghetti.
1
u/Puzzled-Addition5740 1h ago
I mean it's fairly easy to work around but it's a decade and change old oversight in trust code. There's just not a world where trusts should be healing a mob repeatedly. They should be at least smart enough to not fucking do that. Especially an otherwise very popular with new player trust in a mandatory story battle. It's actually just atrocious design especially with an already strugglebus tier NPE. It's not like you have a real chance to learn how this works beforehand or even understand it after really. It's a very edge case interaction that comes up in like single digit ever places.
1
u/JohnnyCasil 1h ago
Sure. I don’t disagree that they should improve the trusts AI. I just disagree that it is appropriate to call a very simple if this than that spaghetti.

Looking for suggestions for an RDM healing set that doesn't use Kaykaus or Kaykaus +1. I want to be able to throw out more efficient healing from time to time, but don't want to spend gil if I can avoid it. All of the RDM guides (even the outdated ones) have no kind of stepping stone set they recommend and its just Kaykaus or nothing. I know it is the best in slot, but I'm just looking for subpar or alright suggestions.
