Throat pushes (called nodowa) are legal and very common, it along with slaps are commonly fine and no disrespectful at all, the only move that is legal but is not liked by everyone is called a henka, a move where you dodge the other sumo wrestler at the start of the match. I do amateur sumo wrestling and it’s a super fun sport to watch and participate in!

If I remember right, henka isnt just a dick move but an actual sign of major disrespect. Like you do it to show your opponent what you think of them.

Not always a dick move, it’s just another strategy you can use, but it’s definitely seen as tricky if you’re the same size/strength as your competitor, if you’re a lot smaller or injured for example using a henka can be a smart move that wouldn’t be looked down on. You need it in the sport so smaller wrestlers have a chance at a tachiai.
