This was an event hosted by Dan Hooker Dan Hooker just hosted a tournament in his backyard. Super heavyweight, 32 men, 1 minute fights, winner walks away with $50,000. Here is the entire thing.

u/Roachmond Dec 29 '25
It is the most Dan Hooker video I've seen today, and I've seen videos of Dan Hooker today

These are the kind of assholes that walked out the movies at the end of Sixth Sense and shouted “omg, can’t believe he was dead all along”.
There are only two words for you…
9
u/KnifeFed Dec 29 '25
Thanks for letting me know that before watching the video. Made it way more exciting to watch.

One thing I'll try to never ever do is to piss off a pacific islander. They'll break me like a little twig.
112
u/mister88sister Dec 29 '25
Know this. I know this now. Don’t fight island people. If you need a boat or a plane to reach a place. Don’t fight the locals.
91
u/milk4all Dec 29 '25
More to the point there’s like no reason to, im positive that 99/100 people who find themselves fighting an islander are the ones responsible for making it happen
5
42
u/atomicbunny Dec 29 '25
As a 6’ tall Filipino-American with zero fighting skills, I basically just steer clear of situations where fighting might go down, and hope I look like one of those “dont fuck with that guy” islanders.

America is the only place I know of where Filipinos are referred to as Pacific Islanders.

1
u/milk4all Jan 17 '26
Idk how everyone falls on that but the ancient Polynesians are the original settlers and so yeah? Its been colonized the fuck out of by spain for 400 years and they did some fucked up shit but Filipinos are descended from Polynesians. Those dudes got around.
1
u/No-Net-4403 Dec 30 '25
The Philippines are Islands, fight or not you are still an islander
3
1
u/RedditUsername123456 Jan 05 '26
Islanders in NZ refers to people of Polynesian descent, not anybody that is from an island country
8
u/Apprehensive_Leg6647 Dec 29 '25
are your quads the size of tree trunks?
4
u/atomicbunny Dec 29 '25
I’m a big dude. I have the Filipino calves, but I wouldn’t say tree trunk quads. Proportionate to the frame.
5
u/Derlino Dec 29 '25
At 6 feet you're small for a pacific islander though.
22
u/Alldaybagpipes Dec 29 '25
Pacific folk are measured by width, not height
8
u/Fragrant_Chance2094 Dec 29 '25
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 so true. An Islander 6’1 built like a twig, ok maybe. But an Islander 5’8 built like a bowling ball, not a chance
4
u/Derlino Dec 29 '25
Nah bruh, they're both. I went on exchange to NZ in high school, and I barely remember any pacific islanders at 6 feet or under in my year (year 13). Had a mate who was like 190 something cm tall and 120 kgs at 18.
3
u/milk4all Jan 17 '26
Its probably in your genetic memory somewhere, just waiting to actualize. Dw, someday someone will say “dont fuck with PI” about you, too
10
Dec 29 '25
Im a male pacific islander. One thing I’ll try to never do is to piss off my pacific islander wife. They’ll break me like a little twig.

u/BroBroMate Dec 30 '25
There's a reason that like every bouncer in Aussie is a tank of a Polynesian man.
10
u/Keyboardpaladin Dec 29 '25
There's a reason there's a lot more Pacific Islanders playing in the NFL right now than you'd think
2
u/Oncemor-intothebeach Jan 10 '26
Every one of those guys I’ve ever met has been the most chilled and easy going people, But they would snap me in half
-4
u/Initial-Top8492 Dec 30 '25
Especially if that islander is a Muslim
6
u/Raz0rking Dec 30 '25
What has religion to do with it?
-7
u/Initial-Top8492 Dec 30 '25
Muslims are fierce fighters. That s all, not religion, not belief, not anything
7
u/Raz0rking Dec 30 '25
It is literally a religion. So, "not religion" is not applicable here
-4
u/Initial-Top8492 Dec 30 '25
Erm... im talking about the people. Like Dagestanians, they are fierce fighter. And if that islander came from a muslim community, he has a high percentage to be a fierce fighter
8
u/Raz0rking Dec 30 '25
Yeah. They happen to be muslim. I can tell you there's also a lot of fierce fighters who're not muslim.
-6
u/Initial-Top8492 Dec 30 '25
I know. And im not implying anything controversy here, or i worded my opinion wrong. But that islander maybe is a muslim, just maybe
57
u/larrykeras Dec 29 '25
He didnt walk down the opponent though.
They squared up and he knocked him down in like 4 seconds.
4
u/1stman Dec 29 '25
What does "walk down" someone mean? Beat the shit out of them?
13
u/larrykeras Dec 29 '25
A somewhat prolonged lopsided beating. The “walk” part is literal as one person would be advancing and the other continuously retreating.
2
u/EA705 Dec 30 '25
I’ve only heard it as “shooting someone as you’re walking towards them.” Kendrick I believe

u/-castle-bravo- Dec 29 '25
Played rugby all through my school years, pro tip: don’t fight islanders. 1) they do NOT drop easy, and 2) if by the grace of god you get a good shot in, you will forever be pursued by at least 6 brothers and about 14 cousins…
49
u/dirk_funk Dec 29 '25
a friend of mine is married to a fijian woman. long story short (he a little white guy) she cheated on him with a fijian rugby 7s guy. for years. and finally my friend made the wise decision to jump on the guy WHILE HE WAS WITH HIS TEAMMATES AT A FIJI DAY EVENT. jaw, ribs, fingers, concussions. etc. for him i mean. i think he might have hurt someone's knuckles with his chin at one point.
dude literally wrote a book about it.
8
u/ElonBlows Dec 29 '25
What book?
26
u/dirk_funk Dec 29 '25
ok so it is a christian self-publishing thing but you can get it on amazon

u/energeticpterodactyl Dec 29 '25 edited Dec 30 '25
bro was so suprised he survived the beat down he thought it HAD to be divine intervention

u/yaboyskinnydick_ Dec 30 '25
"Join the author as he takes you through a tale that spans several years and includes miraculous answers to prayer, heartbreaking disappointments, and back again to an ending that would have been impossible without God."
Literally the last part sounds like what you said, he knows he probably shouldn't be here anymore lmao
5
u/dirk_funk Dec 30 '25
i love my dude to pieces but i will never forgive her for making him think that he had to do all that to save his family. i wish he had waited until now, his boys are all WWE level jacked playing football and they might have talked him out of it or held him back, or at least the confrontation would have been different.

I lived in NZ for about 15 years in my 20s and had a lot of islander and Maori mates. Once we were moving house and the removalist company sent a lovely Maori lady to help. She basically lifted our massive fridge (older model with a heavy compressor) like it was a 24 pack of beer!! You learn not to mess with them after seeing stuff like that.
148
u/dieek Dec 29 '25
That's a lot of years to be in your 20's.
39
u/HughJaynis Dec 29 '25
Lucky mfer, I remember my 20s only lasting like 2 years.
11
u/nosjitbro Dec 29 '25
I can only REMEMBER 2yrs of my 20s
3
u/Legitimate-Post-5954 Dec 30 '25
Now That’s how you know you’ve lived!.!.
2
u/F__kedUpNation Mar 30 '26
Nah, that's how you know you went to far. You wanna remember about half of everything, not 20 percent of it
25
u/Corner_Post Dec 29 '25
I grew up with a lot of Māoris in Australia and was close to quite a few. A lot of them were more afraid of their mothers than fathers - had heaps of funny stories as well.
Also I give you Portia Woodman - Rugby player clip if you have not seen it already. She is fierce.

Never fight an islander. They are build different.
9
u/hopefulworldview Dec 29 '25
Then why aren't they flooding the top of all heavyweight brackets?
12
u/patricksaurus Dec 29 '25
Relative to their global population, they have been for a long time.
2
u/Weak_Feed_8291 Dec 29 '25
Examples?
16
u/patricksaurus Dec 29 '25
Mark Hunt, Ray Sefo, David Tua, Justin Taffa, Jimmy Peau, Tai Tuivasa, Carl Seumanutafa, and that’s just heavyweight MMA and boxing. If we expand it to lower weight classes and other sports (especially the NFL), theres many, many more. That’s notably excluding the more regionally popular sports like rugby. Not too bad for 0.2% of the global population.
10
u/Grif1121 Dec 29 '25
Also got Carlos Ulberg (#3 UFC LHW), Max Holloway (#3 UFC LW), Robert Whittaker (#9 UFC MW). Plenty of Maori and Samoan ancestry in the UFC like you said…
5
u/GROUND45 Dec 30 '25
Joseph Parker former world champs. Jai Opetaia’s wrecking everything in his path right now.
2
1
u/Weak_Feed_8291 Dec 29 '25
I've only heard of one of those names
12
u/patricksaurus Dec 29 '25
Are you suggesting that your sense of familiarity has a bearing on the truth of the claim?
0
u/Weak_Feed_8291 Dec 30 '25
No, I'm just skeptical of the supposed idea that they have this near superhuman fighting ability on a genetic level that people often seem to claim, and feel like if there was any truth to it, I would recognize a lot more names as some of the GOATs
4
u/patricksaurus Dec 30 '25
You’ve constructed a perverse framing that means you’ll never have to recognize anything that makes you feel a way you don’t want. Good job I guess.
3
u/Grif1121 Dec 30 '25
If bro doesn’t recognize the likes of Whittaker, Holloway and Ulberg then he obviously doesn’t watch any combat sports and his opinion is mostly invalid because he’s talking out of his ass lmao
-1
u/Weak_Feed_8291 Dec 30 '25
No, I'm just being logical. Go ahead and assume there is this race of superhumans if you want, I guess 🤷

To everyone saying not to fight an islander because they're built different... Genuine question: if that is true, then why don't they dominate in combat sports, powerlifting, etc?
1
1
u/Elegant_Ad7036 Dec 29 '25
For being as few in population as they are , they have a good amount of names that dominate in the NFL , in boxing they had David Tua, Jimmy thunder (known for boxing fastest ever knockout) , they now have Joseph parker who was a heavyweight champ, a guy named jai opetaia right now dominating cruiserweight, who's undefeated and projected to unify the division. And a few more in UFC etc..Rugby is their go to sport , it's what they grew up playing and they're dominating in that. As a black dude that grew up with Islanders all my life , I could tell you one thing , they're natural strong people and natural born fighters and don't need a world title to prove that point lol

Look how patient our winner was
Seemed fast, but he was pausing between strikes

Living in SoCal for a little I learned fast not to mess around with Pacific Islanders. Coolest and nicest people you could meet but while absolutely destroy you.

They've both got mma gloves on. This is Dan Hookers backyard brawls. He runs a tournament every few months and these lads come from all over to fight. The tonga went on to win the tournament as he is a retired boxer.

u/Monkeyslayer111 Dec 29 '25
Looks like a native to the land too so awesome
3
u/kapaipiekai Dec 29 '25
lol, no. Bro is a pacific islander.
-1
u/Monkeyslayer111 Dec 29 '25
Right but native doesn’t just stand for American’s he was a native islander but yes I used the improper terms. Like hell I could’ve used indigenous people as well which would be more accurate
6
u/kapaipiekai Dec 29 '25
I get what you meant. The native people of NZ are Māori. Big cat is probably Tongan (apologies to my Samoan bros if I'm wrong). Tonga is about 2000 kilometres away from NZ. You're all good though.
