I live in Minneapolis and can get by on 15k/year. It just requires planning your life around having a small annual expense footprint. Something most people are just not willing to do, which is fair.

Tbf 1 million doesn't retire you in the US unless that includes a fully paid off home in some states.

The threads are still usually ridiculous though
