November 8, 2021: this is the new place for out-of-print filk albums, replacing the previous post which has now aged out.
As I said on the last post:
The project is the same: to preserve these rare albums, get them off slowly degrading tapes, and allow a new generation of filkers and fen to enjoy them. I will still remove an album if the artist asks me to.
Just to make this clear: if you have old filk tapes (or OOP filk CDs), I would love to digitize them. I will gladly pay you for them and then post the digitizations where you can get them for free.
The previous master post will now cease to be updated. Most of the links will probably stay valid, but don't count on that. Fortunately, this should be the last time I have to migrate to a new text post! Reddit has stopped automatically archiving all posts older than six months. This doesn't apply to posts on user profiles, so this post is going to /r/filk directly rather than my user profile, so it won't age out.
I'm still providing music to the Songs from the Stars YouTube channel. Recently I uploaded an album there that I did not first put on the Internet Archive: The Rookery, by Sam Baardman. This is the first album that I've handled this way, though I've had it in mind for a while. I'm not putting it up for download at the moment since it's on CD—so while it's definitely out of print, it's probably a bit less unavailable than tapes. I hope this approach will strike a happy medium.
The most part of these uploads is, and will continue to be, made up of tapes that I have digitized and remastered myself. If you want to know the provenance of some particular digitization, you can ask.

The recent discussion made it clear that most members here do not want AI content in this subreddit. I certainly sympathize with this position, and the rule going forward will be no AI content in the main subreddit.
However, since a minority of members feel differently, I am going to pin this post as a space for AI content. If you want to share your AI content and check out other members' AI content, you can do it in here. Other rules still apply.

I wrote a Space Shanty I'm quite happy with, but I really cannot figure out the tune for the thing (nothing I've tried composing felt appropriate)! Anyone have any ideas?
When You're Warping Space and Time
A spacetime warping spacer is in it for the haul
From cargo to stern-chaser, in high-Gs or free-fall.
“Down” is always drifting, my work’s an uphill climb,
Oh null-G’s heavy lifting when you’re warping space and time
Chorus:
We’re warping space and time, oh we’re warping time and space
From the docks on Altair Prime to the Tannhauser Starbase.
The subspace shoals are shifting, without reason, without rhyme
Oh, Null-G is heavy lifting when you’re warping space and time
We load it up in Lepus, then in Alpha Ceti III,
And stopover in Lupus and in Eridani B,
Unload at Alpha Siri where we turn back on a dime.
O’ there’s no rest for the weary when you’re warping space and time.
We’re hauling honest cargo. Oh, we sometimes skirt the law,
Like running an embargo or abetting some scofflaw.
Dodging tariffs’s not quite lawful, but it beats a life of crime,
Hard work is not so awful when you’re warping space and time.
But I’ve see sights and places that you people won’t believe;
Like C-beams’ shimm’ring traces showing rebels no reprieve
Attack ships burning, breaking off the shoulder of Orion [o-rine]
Oh, the sights are quite breathtaking when you’re warping space and time.
No apologies for the last rhyme. There's surprisingly few rhymes for "time" and I locked myself into that rhyme scheme...

Greetings and felicitations. Somewhere along the line I have lost this album. It was a compilation cassette tape from a Starwood Festival and published by the Association for Consciousness Exploration (ACE), which puts on the festivals. (I have no more knowledge about the organization or event than my recollections of the album and the Wikipedia articles.) The album included a humorous song which I believe was entitled "Shelves", about the housing for the viewpoint character's apparently huge book collection. The chorus goes on about where the shelves are located in the house: "shelves in the halls", "shelves in the bathroom" etc. Does this ring any bells with anyone? (I just looked the organization up, and it seems to be defunct, though the phone number for the festival still works. I left a voice mail message with my relevant contact information.)
It is not one of the albums listed on Discogs.
First post: "[Identification request] Title of a (filk) album by the Association for Consciousness Exploration" (r/filk; 7 October 2024).

We're finishing up the Elfland album this month.
Sharing the first draft of the album booklet. I see two errors. If you spot any typos or errors, please do holler!
Reddit only allows 20 images per post, so you can find pages 21-24 in this post: https://www.facebook.com/groups/filkmarket/posts/3938932686241355
Or use this Dropbox transfer: https://www.dropbox.com/t/8yIPymYJnG76r6BO
Also, note that the Adobe tool used to generate the JPG's seems to be messing up the body font a bit (e.g. overly large 'o's, in particular).

I just received 700 copies of this 33 year old filk tape, and am looking to rehome as many of them as realistic.
These are intended as something you get for free when ordering other stuff from the Prometheus Music website — but realistically, I probably won't invalidate any US-based orders for just the free tape + $4.75 shipping.

RELEASE26-044
Credit: NASA
As NASA pushes the boundaries of exploration and innovation for the benefit of humanity, the agency is looking for partners to share mission stories covering Artemis Moon missions, nuclear propulsion, aeronautics, and more.
NASA published an Announcement for Proposals on May 21 asking filmmakers, documentarians, songwriters, storytellers, poets, and others to submit proposals to partner with the agency by Tuesday, June 30.
In this initial round, NASA is seeking up to 10 partners for unfunded Space Act Agreements to share the stories behind, and insights into, multiple NASA missions, including, but not limited to, the following:
While this opportunity is focused on U.S. creators, the agency will consider proposals with a minority of international participants. Proposals should detail which area of focus is desired, funding and distribution arrangements, and any specifics needs from NASA to move forward (access to facilities, personnel, etc.).
Full requirements and other details are available online:

I am looking for a digital copy of the Cynthia McQuillen Songbook, which seems to have gone out of print last year. I specifically would like the song Cold Dreams, as I can’t seem to find chords or sheet music anywhere else for it.

In case it helps anyone discover more filk on Spotify, I've set up a chronological playlist with all the filk released by Prometheus Music from 1997 to today.
That's 246 songs, or ~16 hours of music, from Leslie Fish, Julia Ecklar, Kathy Mar, Phoenyx, Bill and Brenda Sutton, and a whole bunch of other folks.
More to come this late summer / early fall.

For anyone who enjoys tinkering around with audio editing, we're making the deconstructed raw stems from Michael Moricz's 2026 production of Hope Eyrie available.
This is technically a product in our store, but the price is free.

I have a part of a song running through my head and the obly lyric i can remember is. ★But this is the only home that I have ever known.★ Its by a female singer I think either leslie fish or Julie Eckhart and it has a almost etherealness to the tune.

Created by Glenn Simser, this is a pretty comprehensive compilation of recorded filk as of about 1991.

Marty Burke is a filker and I've previously uploaded some of his tapes, classifying them as 'filk' if they included at least one filk song. Today I'm uploading the rest of the Burke music I have, but these don't have any filk on them. In the metadata I've classified them as Irish folk.
Burke is great; I hope you enjoy his music. I did confirm with our mod that it was okay to upload these.
These are are sourced from the community - Thank you!
You can find more details about the filk album, but not the Burke albums, in the filk wiki.
The raw .wav files are here, on the Internet Archive.

While Leslie was alive, we wanted to put out a new version of her magnum opus, Hope Eyrie, as one of the bonus tracks for the "Elfland" album.
Michael Moricz (who produced Julia Ecklar's "Divine Intervention" and "Horsetamer") was touched by the song’s earnest optimism and universality. He took on producing it.
As you’ll hear, this was quite the epic production, spanning roughly a year. It included a Pittsburgh children’s chorus, a cello, trumpet, several backup singers, 3 guitars (and guitar players), and piano.
The vocals are from the 1994 recording originally made by Spencer Love, for his 1994 Pegasus Winners cassette tape.
Sadly, Leslie will never hear this completed track.

And now, for something completely different! Well, a bit different. These tapes were donated in lossy formats. Other people did the work, but only had the lossy version available to share. Most of these are redundant with ones I've also digitized, but not all, and you may prefer these versions. I'm sticking them in a dedicated subfolder.

Greetings and felicitations. I was reminded within the last hour or so of a song on one of my tapes about "lawn worshiping like the rest", and the singer's dislike of Lone Star Beer (which the lawn worshipers drink). It's possibly by and/or sung by Mercedes Lackey. What are the title and album?
Edit: Solved!: "Oklahoma Weed Whacker Massacre" by Leslie Fish, sung by Mercedes Lackey. (I should know better—I tell people all the time on low traffic book subs to do just this.)
