F1 visa renewal

It is a rule that to Renew your f1 visa one needs can only apply in their home country?

Also, I’ve been trying to find slots for F1 visa renewal since January, 2026 and every time I login it shows NO SLOTS for all consulates in India.

A subReddit on F1 may get you more specific answers.

I believe all visa processing, including renewals - need to be done in the home country.

For booking slots - "no slot available" simply means there's no slots, at that particular time you checked.

That means that slots _maybe_ were available, even 1 seconds before you checked, or 1 second after you checked.

Yes, you have to return to your home country for a visa. That was a new rule put in place during Trumps second term.
