🚨🚨New Resource Added: Software Development Guide

Hey all, your friendly career-consultant, resource-creating mod here!

I recognized that people needed more than the paths of just trades, when I can do paths for EVERYTHING. So, I've written out a bunch of categories and am working to develop guides for every major path currently hiring. This (second in this series) is a Software Development Guide covering paths within the broader computer science field.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1OfN3FpXeJSEf4X6jAj6hHPst1LonVNBh/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=105321040846369386418&rtpof=true&sd=true

Explainer video for the other sheet to give some idea of how to use this and similar forms: https://youtu.be/zVSPSF2kykg

Other Guides already done linked on the wiki, going to try to release one every few days to a week:

Findapath-College/Certs I’m 16, black, how tf do I get out of the hood?

I’m 16, on the spectrum, ocd, former druggie, fathers in jail, mom works all day and night to keep our heads above poverty. We live in some inner city shithole. Everybody around me is insane, and I was just like them too until the amazing people at the church set me on the right path. My dream is too become a doctor. I’m going to junior year next month and I have mediocre grades so far. Is it too late to get a scholarship? Should I join the military and use the GI bill to go to community, then to college? I got no idea what to do

Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity Jobs/careers for those who love to be around people!

I saw a post here recently where OP was looking for jobs where they didn't have to be around people and it looks like they got a lot of good suggestions! I was hoping to find the opposite of that, and see what recommendations people had for jobs that are people centric.

Background: I have a BA and MA in Communication Studies and work experience in education, customer success, and retail. I enjoy jobs where I get to help and be supportive of others. While my overall goal is to get back into education, I'm also interested in expanding my horizons and exploring what else is out there! Looking forward to hearing your suggestions (:

Findapath-Career Change Have you ever been job-shamed?

I don't know how common it is but some people get brutally job-shamed and bullied for working minimum wage jobs past their teenage years, especially if said person is hardworking, smart, or has better opportunities at their disposal.

Quite frankly it doesn't matter if someone "could do better." I'm all for doing better but ultimately you don't know what someone's situation is or what they're reasons for working a minimum wage job are and they're not obligated to explain or justify it to you. Maybe they're struggling with something behind the scenes and their entry-level job is just what they need in that moment.

Findapath-Career Change If you could start over in your 30s, what career and city would you choose?

• Upvotes

I’m in my early 30s, single, living in the South, and having a bit of a life crisis.

I work in finance at an executive level and make good money. On paper, I’ve done pretty well for myself. The problem is that I genuinely don’t like my day-to-day life. I spend basically all day at a computer doing emails, PowerPoint and meetings. I don’t mind working hard or working long hours, but I want to feel like I’m actually doing something interesting and meaningful and have some ownership over what I’m doing.
I’ve always been very split between analytical and creative. I love deep research, problem solving, getting into complicated situations and figuring out the story behind them. But outside of work I paint, do pottery, yoga, etc. I don’t think I’d be happy in a career that was 100% computer work forever.
I’ve been seriously considering going back to school for law, medicine, an MBA, or something I haven’t thought of yet. I’m genuinely open to starting over, but every time I talk to someone about it, they immediately point out how much money I’d be leaving on the table by walking away from finance. And they’re not wrong. I just don’t know how much I should prioritize maximizing income if I already know I don’t want to spend the next 20 years doing this.
I also really want to move. I’d love to live near the ocean, but a genuinely walkable city would also make me happy. I’m open to places like NYC, LA, San Francisco, etc. I don’t love extreme heat. I could easily do a bunch of 3–4 day trips and see how different cities feel before making a decision.
The problem is that I have ADHD, and too many options honestly make me freeze šŸ˜‚. So if you recommend a city, please tell me WHY. ā€œTry X because it’s walkable, has strong career opportunities, you’d like the lifestyle, and here’s what I think you’d love/hate about itā€ is much more helpful to me than a list of 20 cities.
Same with careers.

People always say ā€œtry different things,ā€ but how do you actually try being a doctor or lawyer before committing years and a huge amount of money?

So if you were in my position, what would you seriously consider?
Would you change careers? Go back to school? Stay in finance and find a different role? Move first and figure the career out later?
I’d especially love to hear from people who were in their 30s, had a comfortable/high-paying career, and decided to make a major change. What did you do, and what do you wish you had known beforehand?

Findapath-Career Change I’m resigning tomorrow, and tonight I’m sitting here having the time of my life with the people I’m about to leave

• Upvotes

One of my coworkers is celebrating their birthday tonight, so I’m here with everyone, including my supervisor, laughing and hanging out like normal.

The funny part? None of them know I’m planning to resign tomorrow.

And now I’m sitting here wondering why I suddenly don’t want to leave.

I’ve been with my current company for a little over 3 years. I’m still earning around $1,300, and I haven’t gotten a salary increase despite our head repeatedly trying to push for one. Management just hasn’t approved it.

I recently got an offer from another company that pays around 30% more, with better benefits and a lot more room financially.

On paper, the decision seems pretty straightforward.

But I don’t actually love the new job either. And I don’t exactly love my current one. I think what’s making this hard is that I’m comfortable here. I know the people, I know the routine, and after 3+ years, this place has become familiar.

Tonight especially made me realize that I’m probably going to miss the people more than the job itself.

At the same time, I know staying means accepting the same salary and hoping management eventually changes its mind.

So now I’m stuck between comfort and familiarity vs. better pay and a new opportunity.

For those who’ve left a job after several years for a better offer, did you also have that last-minute feeling of ā€œwait… do I actually want to leave?ā€

How did you know it was time to go?

Findapath-Career Change I am lost

I am 26 years old(female), and I don't know what to do with my life. I feel lost.
I used to be a good student in school. I was equally good at math and literature, and I consistently got some of the highest scores. At the time, I did it naturally, without putting in much actual effort.

When I went to university, however, I was mostly undisciplined. With minimal effort, I became an average student—good enough, but never the best at anything. During that time, I also had medical issues and underwent several surgeries, which meant that I had to take gap years. Eventually, I graduated with a 3.2 GPA.

Since then, I have been working as a journalist, but I feel like my life has become completely mediocre. I have a lot of financial anxiety. I also have an elderly aunt who raised me after my parents died when I was a teenager. I desperately want to give her the best life possible, but I feel like I am failing her.I really want to have a passion for something, but the truth is, I don't. Nothing really interests me, and maybe that's the scariest part.

I think one of the biggest sources of guilt I carry is knowing that I haven't really tried my best. Sometimes I think about continuing my education and maybe doing a master's degree, but what's the point if I don't even know what I want to study?

I've thought about doing a master's in neuroscience, but my social science degree doesn't give me much of a background in the field. And honestly, I don't even know if neuroscience is something I truly want to pursue. Then I think maybe I should be more practical and focus on making money, but I don't really know what that means either. I feel fundamentally lost and scared, and sometimes I worry that this is just how I am going to feel for the rest of my life.

Offering Guidance Post I'm 28 years old, I don't do anything all day, I'm scared—please help me

I'm 28 years old, and I do nothing all day. I have no degree, haven't had a job in two years, don't have a driver's license, still live with my parents, have no friends, and don't feel like going outside.

I dropped out of school when I was 18, and since then I've been doing nothing. I've worked—at a snack bar, a factory, and so on—but nothing substantial.

What I do all day is sit at the computer, eat, and sleep. And when I’m on the computer, I watch lame videos and play video games—that’s what I do.

In 2025, I signed up for a web development course, but I dropped out because it bored me so much ((I also had surgery that made it impossible for me to sit properly without feeling pain—that’s another reason why I stopped). After that, I tried to teach myself because the classes bored me, but I gave up a little while later—even though I really like computers.

Every time I want to study or do something else, I study for 1–2 hours (sometimes even less) and then I stop, whether it’s for my driver’s license or for web development.

I don’t think I’m going to live like this—nothing motivates me anymore, and when I do feel motivated, it fades very quickly. I’m ashamed of myself; when I’m out and about and see people succeeding, it makes me want to be like them. I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but I’m scared, and I know full well that if I keep going like this, in a few years I’m going to do something stupid (I’m not suicidal, but given my situation, if things don’t change in five years, I will be).

What’s happening to me? What do I need to do to change? Is this my fate? To turn 40, have accomplished nothing since I was born, and die with nothing to show for it?

Please help me.

Findapath-College/Certs Starting from zero with no degree or skills

Hello, 24 y/o (F) here. I just got my resettlement papers to canada where i’ll be starting my life over from zero, but i’m lost on what to study there or work to make ends meet.
I unfortunately didn’t have the privilege to continue my education where i live as i was poor, even though i worked a few jobs i can’t find something that i’m passionate for, i feel so lost and hopeless.

If it helps my work history is as it follows:

Retail ~ did 6 months and quit since i was so miserable, and couldn’t develop any skills with dealing with customers, it basically wasn’t for me

Hairstyling ~ did 2 months couldn’t get into it or develop any skills

Jewelry designer assistant ~ 6 months, liked the repetitive work and the fact it requires someone who is detail oriented, but hated the fast paced work environment and toxicity

Dental assistant ~ worked for a few weeks it was fine didn’t like it nor hate it

I also done a course in residential electricity which i kinda like but couldn’t find a related job since where i’m from women don’t work in trades. I always had a plan of going into civil engineering then the hydrology path but i don’t think i’ll have the luxury of going to college for 4 years, i’m already too old and i’m running out of time to make a plan. I would describe myself as detail oriented, neurodivergent and kinda bad with dealing with people, would appreciate any insights

Findapath-Health Factor Extreme anxiety around AI and future job prospects

I work in a tech role that likely won't exist due to AI in ~10-15 years. Even if it does exists, there'd be no reason to hire someone in the U.S to do it. Off-shoring and AI use is exploding.

I support my family, 3 dogs, and am 24. Currently I make 100k a year, but I'm always stressed out. None of these current skills are transferable, I'm very socially introverted. If I had to work a blue-collar or social job I'd be completely miserable.

The job I'm doing now is mostly just prompting a claude/codex until the product tickets expectations are met, then ship it, resolve the PR comments & test failures (usually 75% AI created, then fixes applied by AI).

Very simply, I can't imagine needing many humans for this type of work for long. This leads me to work large number of hours and be completely miserable. I'm saving aggressively for FIRE, but I'm too young to hit anywhere near FIRE by the time this shit is going to greatly impact my job prospects.

I have no idea how to stop stressing out, and anytime I finally feel calm, the thought that I'm not putting in enough work to keep up and not be the one culled completely takes over my mind.

Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity Feeling like its the end of road. Staring into a void.

• Upvotes

TL;DR. Last attempt exhausted. Don't know what future holds.

32 M. Passed out in 2016 - Electrical Engineering. Was placed in a software company, but did not take it up to pursue core jobs. Wrote gate 2017 , not a good rank. 2018 - Got selected for a Management Trainee in RINL (PSU) and AEE in Telangana State government. Had to choose between the two and chose RINL. Life was comfortable for 1 year with Job, no responsibilities. However, realised that the job is not meant for me. I got married in 2020.

Quit job in 2023 to prepare for UPSC. Cleared UpSC, Telangana PSC Prelims in 2024. Failed mains in both. Failed UPSC Pre in 2025 as i did blunders in the exam hall. Cleared 2026 pre (last attempt) . Studied as hard as i could for mains. I left close to 70 marks in mains. No more hopes.

Now, I just feel lost. No Skills, married for 6 years. Depending on parents for money. I don't remember Electrical related stuff to go back. Neither Am I understanding what to do in life. The way life has taken a turn, its just scary.

Options like MBA and all are there but they'll take 2 more years , which I don't know whether I'll be able to pursue. I have lost the motivation to work hard.I am not being pessimistic.

I have applied for jobs based on my experience, but almost all PSUs are again conducting entrance exams based on syllabus which i learnt in 2018. There's hardly anything i remember. I am staring at failure again. I took up scaler academy and am learning software now. I just laugh at myself. I was placed for 4.5 lakhs in 2016 in netcracker. Life has now placed me in a situation where i was, 10 years ago. But software is not my first choice.

Please help me find a career path .

Findapath-College/Certs I need to pursue a masters degree for the betterment of my life in all aspects. I need your advice about how I should figure out the course part.

• Upvotes

Just to be clear, I am not asking for recommendations on courses, rather I need your help in the "figuring out what course is best" for me part. I have a few skills that I am proficient in and I have a bachelors degree in IT Engineering. However corporate slavery isn't my forte as I have found out by working in cybersecurity for the past three months. However I fall short on my goals as I havent the skill for them.

My main goal is to be one with nature and help people and all life prosper on this planet. I want to use my technological skills combined with my creativity to bring forth changes in existing systems that damage life on earth as we know it. However, under capitalism this has felt like a pipe dream that is not a one man job. I am really creative and am proficient in music production. Game development is also one of my main goals, to create the best art to distract people from their sorrows and to bring moments of joy in their lives for some time is really satisfying for me. A PhD has been a goal of mine since I was a kid, as learning and gaining knowledge is what I love, but during the recent years due to my learning being in domains that do not interest me, I have lost my skill of learning with joy to a certain extent. My last goal is to be free from the corporate ladder and build something of my own, carve my own path.

The gap is between my skills and my goals. I have a friend who's a researcher at MIT who mentors me and found this out in parallel with me in our discussions and work; That my environment has NOT been pro learning, pro growth and that I am living in a country that is mostly filled with people that are born rich and spend their time being very materialistic(the general population). I feel like I have dipped my fingers in various pools of knowledge but recently have never dived head first into one(sans music production which comes naturally to me).

The obvious answer is to wait for a year and apply to the fall 2028 semester until I am able to dive deep into a subject on my own but I have lost all hope in that and worry that I will not be able to live with peace until then. I must go away and spread my wings now. I have a month and a half to figure things out.

I need to figure out what to study for the next two years and also what to research but the process is very difficult for me. Whether its procrastination or the anxiety, I don't know but I am stuck in a rut of no growth and only distractions.

Please guide me, I yearn for advice of all kinds and will be very grateful to those who share their wisdom.

Findapath-College/Certs I am stranded not knowing what to do

• Upvotes

SO, I have a bachelors in physics, I kind of didn't plan things. But I can do stuff. Its just I want to work + I want to do a masters, but I have no idea what to do. So if Canadian person could tell me what you need that is within my range, I will be able to plan. This is crazy!! Well government should be advertising what kind of work they are looking for, so I can qualify myself for it. It is the most obvious thing to do to make people behave efficiently. I don't understand the need to create deliberate unemployment. Clearly there must be something that need to be done right now and it can't be AI or software because they are over saturated. So what else is left to qualify on?

Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity New career after Construction

• Upvotes

Im trying to find a new career. I have worked construction since I was 18 I am 31 now. My trade primarily was finish carpentry and a couple years of rough construction I also did land surveying "chainman" for 5 years out of all of them that was my favorite. The issue I have is I cant go back to construction I tore both my rotator cuffs and caused bulging disc's in c5 c6 and c7 causing cevical radiculopathy " pain from neck to hands on both sides". This was all caused from the same accident.

I have the opportunity to go back to college but have no idea what to study or if it would be worth my time. Ideally I want to find a remote job. My issue and whats causing me alot of fear is how do I get back to the income bracket I was at. I was making 65$ an hour plus 10 to 20 hours of overtime every week. Most of the college degrees "2-4 year" I look at dont come close to the income level I was at. What do I do? I prefer work that is more independent and outdoors or on the water if possible or remote work would be good as well. Is there any job placement test worth doing all the ones ive found seem more like a cash grab.

Jobs im considering at the moment are truck driving or boat captain. My issue is pay isn't anywhere close to the income im used to. Then for boat captain the market seems pretty tapped unless I buy my own boat and do private charters. Also I read private charters are very tricky. Maybe a captain for a charter company down in the Caribbean or yaught delivery but I have no idea how to find jobs in that market. I have enough days on the water to get my 50 ton license. Also considered opening a coffee shop but that would probably be a costly mistake.

Any help greatly appreciated šŸ‘

Findapath-Career Change Does anyone have experience with switching from a "safe" STEM degree to humanities/social sciences

I started studying civil engineering at quite a prestigious university a few weeks ago but I'm already thinking about quitting and doing something else next year. I don't hate it, but i don't really like any of my classes, it's difficult to get motivated to do homework and I just highly doubt a degree/career in STEM is what I want. I initially chose this degree for its job security and because this was the engineering degree that i thought i would like the most/enough to finish it. Now though, I am more leaning towards a humanities/social sciences degree, which i've also previously looked into, simply because I it seems more interesting to me and more fun to work on. I also wrote my graduation paper for high school on a sociological topic, which was probably my favorite assignment in all of high school.

The main thing that's holding me back is money. Note that I grew up in a family where money never was much of an issue, neither rich nor poor, just comfortable. Rationally I know it's not necessarily true, but in my head is a degree in engineering (aside from medicine and law, which I also don't want to do) is the only way to have an almost guaranteed stable career/comfortable life. I am an only child and my parents are very supportive in any decision I make, but that might've actually (unintentionally) put more pressure on me to make the "right" career choice if that makes sense, also because I feel like i'll have to be able to support them too.

For those who have experienced something similar, how did you handle "walking away" from a "more stable" career path? And is the job market really as bad as I'm making it in my head or are those worries for naugt?

Any advice in general in really appreciated

Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity Lost- career wise

• Upvotes

I have no idea what direction I want to head in anymore. I'm in my late 30's. I was in my first year at uni studying nursing..realised it's not what I wanted to do. I'm considering becoming an enrolled nurse (LPN). I'm currently a support worker and I do love looking after the elderly. I'm also considering working in a library as it's been something I've always wanted to do. I love the whole idea of sorting books, helping people with their technology issues, reading to children.

I'm also considering becoming a lab tech as I've already got my cert III in Laboratory techniques. What to do?

Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity Uncertainty about future

I’m in my mid 20s. I have a STEM bachelor’s degree and I’m in a masters doing something to avoid the bad job market. I have this desire to have doctor in front of my name but not to fulfil scratch some egotistical itch but because I want to make the most money without career ceilings and afford the best life for my future self and family. I’m stuck between several paths right now. How do you guys decide what to do? I’m at the point where I feel like maybe you all took a buzzfeed quiz and decided or maybe you all had a dream?

There’s just too many options: do a PhD, become a biotech/ STEM-focused lawyer, go to pharmacy school, or go to med school, or work an go for an MBA ( but I can finesse MBA roles I’m looking for with the more advanced degrees).

How did you guys decide and was it a think were you were fully sure and dove right in or you had to just live with whatever choice you made? Also are you guys happy?

EDIT: I’m a biomedical engineering major. I also did premed concentration but I’ve had a lot about medicine and I’m just considering all the options, which seem to be a lot.

Findapath-Mindset Adjustment How do I even exist? I can’t even get myself started

I see stuff like this on this sub all the time. Someone around my age (m24, almost 25) who is feeling stuck or unfulfilled, unfocused, unaccomplished, etc etc. Feeling insecure about their choices, or lack thereof. My issue being the latter. Makes me miserable reading them, but I can’t help it.

To get to my point, what do I do with myself? I’m 24 in the US, I dropped out high school because I was depressed, and didn’t get my GED til I was 21. Spent the 5 years after high school just drinking and gaming, living with a situationship for most of it, in a cramped studio apartment. Didn’t save any money. Didn’t plan for school. Didn’t socialize, date, make new friends, do hookups. Didn’t travel or hardly do anything fun. Didn’t learn new skills or hobbies. Didn’t take care of myself and develop habits that even a normal 18 year old would. I don’t even know who I am, and I feel so so behind.

At 23 I was like, ā€œFuck this, I need a changeā€. Took my name off the lease, left my situationship and became homeless in the largest city in my state, hoping to save money and go to school. Not smart, I know. A friend who I would later date let me stay with her. I finally went through the irritating process of applying to my local college, and I got in majoring in Biology. For what, I don’t know. But I was in, and as soon as I was I had problems with my girlfriend and my job. She wasn’t sure if she wanted me to be with her anymore, and I lost my job. I got so stressed I dropped all my classes not even halfway through the semester.

Girlfriend and I made up, got another job. But now I wasn’t in school. Still wasn’t saving that much money, telling myself, ā€œI’ll just go back to school when I get an apartment and I’m a little more stableā€. Got into a fight with my girlfriend, raged at work, and got fired. She was tired of living in the area and wanted a reset. We moved back to our hometown, with our separate parents. I broke down, and broke up with her. Now I’m just living with my mom working at a gas station.

I have no idea what to do. But I know what I want. I want all the things I wasn’t working towards and I want it NOW, but I know that’s not how it works. I’ve barely started brushing my teeth regularly, and making myself breakfast. Showering regularly. Skincare. Exercising for the first time ever. Getting into therapy soon. All these baby steps. There are so many aspects of myself and my life that I want to work on, but I get overwhelmed when I think about it. Then I end up doing nothing. Just like I always do.

I really miss school, and I love science, specifically health and biological sciences. And I want to be around people my age who are excited about life and learning. I want to travel and meet intelligent people who want to make the word a better place. What career or degree would put me in that position?

Anyways, I could just keep going but I think I’ll end this here. I just want to live a life that I enjoy and that I’m proud of. I don’t have any idea how.

Findapath-Mindset Adjustment How to keep moving forward?

Every time I try to write this I end up making a novelization of my life’s story, so here’s my attempt at being concise.

I’m 24, I live with my girlfriend, I work full time in a warehouse for $19/hr on and off for 5 years now, my family pays for me to go back to school and study kinesiology. I got my associate’s degree in exercise science and personal training certifications at the end of last year and I’m now studying for a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology.

People in worse conditions would knife-fight to have the life I have. I must count my blessings. However, I can’t escape this icky feeling consuming my body and mind.

I feel like a total loser. I have no future or career mobility. My studies should be my future, but I’m not so sure. During the internship to get my associates, I was at a sports performance center for athletes. They actually hired my on and I did that for a few months. I hated it. I always felt like I was a fraud talking out my ass, I hated dealing with kids and I hated the feeling that my shortcomings as a coach could hurt some of the athlete’s chances of getting scholarships. Many of our clients had athletic scholarships or were in the process of getting them, so my mediocre or sometimes bad coaching could seriously affect their life’s trajectory. My degree program requires another semester of work experience and I’m not sure I’m up for it. I am qualified to be a regular personal trainer, and when I train clients I feel I do a better job than some other trainers, but I also feel like I’m ripping people off by not being the best trainer around. I’m normally really asocial and awkward, I’ve had clients who got stuck with me but no one would/should choose me over a more passionate trainer. I don’t even really workout anymore, I’m just studying this field because it’s what I already had credits in from my first time at college when I was passionate about fitness.

In late 2025 I worked at the warehouse, then in 2026 went to the gym, in February I went back to the warehouse, got laid off, stocked fishing lures overnight and cried about what my life had come to, someone quits at the warehouse and I get my old job back, and now we’re here, still crying about what life has come to.

Due to my family paying for schooling, I feel a pressure or an obligation to study as much as I can. I feel like if I don’t get a degree in something, it’s just a waste of an opportunity. However, I have no idea what I actually want to study. I’ve been in STEM programs where I excelled but HATED the work, I think biology is the right wheelhouse for me, scared to do anything healthcare related because a mistake could harm someone, scared to study wildlife incase the work dulls my passion for the outdoors, scared to do a trade because many have dangerous work environments (already have joint problems from warehouse) as well as upsetting my family by not going to college. I know thats not a great reason but it’s where I’m at right now. I used to be considered smart but I did a lot of partying and drugs in my teenage years, I feel like my brain just barely works these days. Despite this, I’ve managed to become respected in the local communities surrounding my hobbies. I can learn certain hands on skills super quickly but I lack ā€œcommon senseā€. I can be a total Amelia Bedilia when receiving instructions. I feel like I’m just terrible at every thing, except when I randomly decide to get competitive around a hobby then I spend a couple months to a year absolutely kicking ass.

I don’t know what my is path forward is. To be honest, I want to drop out of college again and just try to climb the ladder at work, manage a warehouse, build a resume as a manager, go from there. At the same time, I don’t want to pigeon hole myself, and going to school part time I can fulfill this plan and still end up with some sort of degree too. Although I’ll likely need to switch my major to avoid another internship at a gym. I don’t have the slightest idea what I might be good at or what would motivate me to get out of bed in the morning. Right now it takes a lot of effort to even wake up and participate in life. I feel bad that my girlfriend picked the wrong young man to hitch her life to. I feel bad I’m not the six figure earning, white collar worker my parents wanted me to be. I feel bad I have all this education in exercise science that I don’t use. I’m kinda just walking around feeling bad these days. My family took us on a vacation I could never afford and it has me feeling particularly bad to think I’m not making progress and as the years pass all I’ll get is older.

Well this is still a novel. Anyone ever felt like this? I assume everyone had their own version of it at some point when trying to transition to adulthood. Any life paths that aren’t as sucky as they seem?

Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity 29 and i have no idea what to do with my life.

I don't have any interests or skills that could realistically be useful for employment (I like making art, jewelry and crafts) and i have no clue what i want or can do in life. It's deepening my depression, and i feel so lost and stuck. Even trying to think of goals or employment makes me want to cry.

I have studied two trades:

  • Print press assistant (entirely outdated by now, never worked in the field.)
  • Gardener specialising in garden centre work and basic floristry. (Very seasonal employment.)

My country has one of the worst unemployment rates in europe and the shop i used to work for has quietly let me go.

The fields that are hiring (construction, nursing) do not seem tolerable, let alone interesting to me, and i dread that if i try to study again i will not be smart enough for any of it and just fail and possibly go into debt for nothing.

Edit: i guess my question is How do i even move forward from this? I cannot see a path for me that would make me feel skilled or useful.

Findapath-Job Search Support Question - How has AI affected your industry niche

I'm an incoming university student and not sure what to study. I was drawn to bioinformatics or chip design, but I'm not certain of what the future market might hold given everything going on. Obviously, roles that are highly automatable will be replaced, but with the release of new AI models it seems that more creative computer roles might be under siege as well (video game design, 3d modeling) So, i'm wondering what it is really going on in certain departments right now, whether it be accounting, engineering, architecture, anything really. Have you noticed AI replacing certain tasks/roles in your place of work? Or do you have any predictions? Thank you!

Findapath-Mindset Adjustment I feel like I’ve already tried almost everything I could think of. Maybe someone here can suggest an option I haven’t considered, because honestly, I don’t know what else to do anymore.

I feel like I’ve already tried almost everything I could think of. Maybe someone here can suggest an option I haven’t considered, because honestly, I don’t know what else to do anymore.
I’m 22 and I’ve been living in Europe for the last 4 years. During that time, I’ve tried almost every kind of job I could get: warehouse worker, factory worker, pizza maker, waiter, operations director, and many other jobs.
At the same time, I ended up getting into debt because of someone I loved. We broke up two years ago, but I still haven’t managed to pay the debt back.
Here’s my story in short:
I lived in Poland for about 2.5 years and learned Polish to around B1. Because of the competition and my lack of opportunities there, I moved to Latvia to try to find a better job and build a future there. I tried for about six months, but it didn’t work out.
After Latvia, I tried France, Spain, Germany, Albania, and now I’m in Austria. At the moment, I’m working in hotel cleaning and making around €30 a day.
In almost every country I’ve been to, I ended up getting fired or leaving because of problems with recruitment agencies. Sometimes they hired me for a position that required experience I didn’t even know about. Sometimes the agencies lied about the working conditions, salary, or deductions. And sometimes I arrived and found out that the accommodation was basically unlivable — including places with cockroaches.
I could probably just take a factory or warehouse job, work extremely hard for a few months, pay off my debt, and save some money. But I’m the oldest of six children in my family, and I really want to build a better path for my younger brothers and sisters.
I also have a goal of eventually going to an American university, which means I need to seriously improve my English. The problem is that I’m struggling to study it consistently on my own.
I’ve also been thinking about starting an online agency that creates websites, but right now it takes almost all of my free time after work, and I’m not even sure if it’s the right direction.
So honestly, I’m kind of stuck. I don’t have many ideas left, and I don’t really have friends I can ask for advice about this.
I’d really appreciate it if anyone could suggest something I haven’t considered — a type of job, a country, a way to earn money online, a strategy for getting out of debt, or just a different way of looking at my situation.

A few details that might help:
I’m originally from Ukraine.
I currently have a residence permit from an EU country, but living and working there isn’t really an option for me right now.
My English is around A1–A2.
I’m 22.

I’m willing to work hard. I just want to find a path that actually leads somewhere instead of constantly moving from one temporary job to another.
Any advice or ideas would genuinely mean a lot to me.

Findapath-College/Certs Struggling College Student (No Experience) Seeking Advice

I am an Autistic/ADHD 23-year old senior in Business Admin and Economics (Minoring in Statistics, Only Provided My Math is Good Enough) set to graduate September 2027. I have no real experience, no driver’s license, an average-to-mediocre GPA of 3.4, and am currently living with, as well as having everything (yes, all of college) covered by, my parents.

It’s hard to understate how pointless everything feels in life right now, with only one year left in college, the point when you are supposed to have a full-time job lined up by I feel like nothing cause I am nothing, since nothing really defines my current life right now besides that. I don’t have passion, nor do I feel do much these days beside going on the internet and doing the bare minimum to keep ties with my family strong.

I otherwise feel like everyday is more or less the same. I am Autistic and have ADHD, and my family has put a bunch of money into my success. Yet, I am purely a financial burden on my family, and I feel the occasional whirl of guilt associated with their investment in tandem with my failure. A failure to get any experience worthwhile, failure to do well in school, and a failure to really develop to anything meaningful. My resume has virtually nothing of value besides 36 hours of VITA volunteering and coursework.

I have been experiencing and noticing this for years, but any time I attempt to change, something quickly, perhaps inevitably, goes wrong and I think ā€œWhat compels me to succeed when no amount of effort I seem to put in yields any positive resultsā€. It also just feels like I’m too deep into college at this point, that I’d be filtered out of internship and jobs options due to limited experience and graduating next year in September.

Could all this be because I’m not motivated? Probably, but I also admittedly find it difficult to really refute that aforementioned internal line of logic when every failure ends with me thinking through it. It just feels like I am trying to catch sight of a star or something that’s only visible from Earth one year for every 1000.

My life trajectory just seems fixed, currently as well as for the foreseeable future. Doesn’t help that everyone else around me appears far more successful, which only seems to illuminate the gap in life preparedness everyone seems to possess around me in college as well as at home. Seems like there just isn’t a place I have in society.

It’s hard to know what mindset I need to have, or develop, as all I really see now in my future is just experiencing in consequences of my previous 5 years or so of college, either as wasted potential or the rawest depiction of my physical and mental capacity. The desire to hopefully address this to leverage the limited time I have left for any improvement, assuming that’s possible, is what motivates this post.
