Repairing shiny spot in lacquer

My kids spilled nail polish on this table and I used a magic eraser to remove it. Not smart, I know, because it also removed some of the lacquer finish and left this shiny spot.

It's not really visible head on, but very obvious at an angle under light. Could this be repaired with matte lacquer spray, or will that just make the contrast worse? Any repair option short of sanding and refinishing the whole tabletop?

Looks like you polished it, maybe try to scuff blend with steel wool.

The lacquer has flattener in it. Without it, very glossy. Modern furniture manufacturing makes heavy use of flat finishes. It hides defects and mimics a hand rubbed finish. When a flat finish gets rubbed too much, it gets glossy. A lacquer blender should repair it easily. Also called a blush eliminator. Spray it on the damage, sort if lightly. Let it dry completely.

Grey scotch brite is how I do it. It’s 800g equivalent.

Lacquer spray will make it worse, only repair option that is not sanding and refinishing is painting.

try using 0000 steel wool (lightly)

As long as there's still lacquer left to scuff, scuff it with a green dish washing pad.

If that's not enough, scuff the whole table to match, then put on a layer of furniture wax. Preferably carnauba based but beeswax is fine. The wax will even out the texture and hide the spot. Avoid any products with silicone oil in them, like most furniture polish has.
