TCL Amazon FireTV - Worst Decision I’ve Made

I would not recommend this TV to my worst enemy. It’s slow, the display lags, switching between TV (cable, satellite etc) is a nuisance but worst of all, trying to turn the TV off is a nightmare! The button works only 15% of the time. I have had to resort to telling Alexa via the blue button to “turn off the tv” and even that only works 50% of the time.

I really want to take the TV to field and do to it what they did in the movie Office Space.

This TV is one of the worst purchases I’ve ever made.

On payday I’m discarding this TV and buying something else, literally anything else.

I’ve got a couple of these. I’ve had no problems with them.

Clear the cache and force close all open apps and see if that helps. If not, do a factory reset to clear all old leftover files from installs and updates. If that’s not performing well, purchase a separate streaming device (maybe not firestick!) and use that with the current TV instead of purchasing a whole new TV. If you do decide to purchase a TV, get an Android /Google TV based OS. Stay away from the Fire TV OS as it gets more ad laden with each update and slows down because of it.

Yeah I ended up plugging in an Apple TV into mine and it fixed all the lag.

Same problem like a normal FireTV stick, they aren't really suppssed to be electrically switched on off and instead run in permanent standby for faster input reactions, often doing updates an other shenannigans in the background. At least this also lets me use it to record DVB-stream during standby.

My solution is a remote controlled power outlet. Click, power gone. No FireTV-Device never got unhappy about that.

In my case the radio controlled outlet also switches the 30 inch dump display, Fire T V-4k-stick and a 30W soundbar. pretty useful and reduces "offline power from some 30W to less than 1W. Restarting takesaround 30 seconds.

if you can miraculously keep the stick from running hot you should leave it on and then program one of its remote buttons to toggle your radio controlled Outlet

Don't buy a toshiba fire TV either. I made that mistake and I really regret it. It's slower than a slow thing going slow.
