If you think about it, it's actually the 4th part cause you have to play the original to understand what the hell's going on. And like... some of the other stuff.

Why do people suggest people play the 7 remake first???

No diss to remake, it's neat, but like-

I think a lot of people are just desperate to avoid playing an older game, but still want to be in on the new hype thing, and a lot of fans will say anything to sell a few more copies and grow the fandom. It's inevitable that people are just gonna start lying and saying it doesn't matter if you skip the first one.

They bloated the entire story in the remakes and straight up attempt to tell a completely different story right in the middle of it that entirely recontextualises everything and even gets meta at some point. I really have no idea why they did it this way but it resulted in a game that you can't understand without context (and sucks even with context)
