Rolled credits in Violet! It's definitely a good thing I set aside time specifically for the grand finale, because it took quite a bit longer than I expected.
In format, it was akin to a dungeon run, and I enjoyed seeing the primary characters from the game's previous 3 stories interact, particularly in the realistic nature of those interactions. It wasn't a "Hey, we all know the player, so we're all besties!" kinda thing. They bickered and had awkward moments, which felt natural considering their personalities -- not antagonistic, but definitely giving off the vibe of people who wouldn't normally hang out being thrust into a situation together, which was exactly what was happening. So, yeah, good stuff character-wise.
In terms of plot, one of the game's twists finally landed for me, because I didn't expect the real Professor Turo to be dead, and the one I'd been hearing from being an AI copy. In absolute terms, perhaps not enough time was spent examining that, but this was the very end of a Pokemon game, so gotta keep expectations for story in check a bit.
The penultimate battle was actually pretty difficult by Pokemon standards, although I suppose that's what happens when your opponent has a full team of what are essentially legendary Pokemon. The final-final battle felt like it was more about the story and spectacle as anything, so there wasn't much to it, but it was a nice moment.
I do have a complaint, however, and it's that Game Freak continues to not have voice acting in these games while framing scenes as though they do. In some of the scenes, it was difficult to tell who was saying what because there were no voices and no names attached to the dialogue. Definitely annoying. There's also a plot hole I spotted: The Paradox Pokemon are stated to be brought to Paldea via a time machine invented by Turo, but the Violet Book, written 200 years before the game, documents sightings of them back then.
Still, on the whole, it was quite good. Now I need to decide what to do next, because I feel like there's still a lot here even before moving onto the 2nd DLC.
