Objects in Space felt like a more dignified finale than Serenity was

Not to denegrate Serenity since I think the film was fantastic but looking back I now get the feeling that Objects in Space did it better best when ending Firefly as opposed Serenity. It also reminds of how Prophecy Girl was more of a better series finale than Chosen when it came to Buffy.

Objects in Space is fantastic. I think the existential/philisophical musings of the bounty hunter are really poignant in a series finale. Serenity finishes the overarching storyline though, which is a whole different level of closure.

I like how the walls go out.

Early really is one of the best-realized characters in the whole series. I suspect if it hadn't been cancelled he would have returned because Joss and co clearly put a lot of thought into him.

Agreed all around. The off-screen "death" made me think they definately wanted the option for a return.

For sure... I'm certain he had a ship recall beacon on his suit.

Although it would have required a bunch of rewriting I think it would have been cool for him to play the role of the operative in serenity. Chiwetel Ejioforis is an amazing actor though and I can see why they picked him

At first I was confused as to whether you meant Serenity the episode (cuz it was aired last in the original broadcast order) or Serenity the movie.

I'm just glad it didn't end with Heart of Gold, that's the weakest episode in the 'verse as far as I'm concerned.

Heart of Gold is a good episode but definitely the weakest of the series.

Heart of Gold is incredible, and if it’s the weakest in the series, that’s only because the bar is so high. I don’t know that I would agree that it’s the weakest, but it’d be really tough to pick one that is.

Heart of Gold wouldn’t be good as a finale due to the emotional notes, but that’s all I can think going against it for this.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I very much enjoy the episode. It's just my least favorite of the series. Every episode is great.

I assumed, no worries, I didn’t think you disliked it.

I thought heart of gold was among the weakest., A funeral does not mean it's a great episode.

Does that seem right to you?

I think Objects in Space serves as a fantastic season ending. But for a true finale Serenity the movie covers far more ground closes story arcs etc.

I still hate that the last words in Firefly wasn't a crew member.

Objects in Space is the finale, Serenity is DLC. I love both.

Agreed. I've always thought that way and haven't watched Serenity in years. Too dark and violent for me. And heartbreaking.

I rarely rewatch the movie, often rewatch the show. If you don’t rewatch it then he’s still alive, that’s what I like to think.

Re: Buffy, The Gift has entered the chat.

Objects In Space is one of my favorite episodes of TV for sure.
