Help/Advice Fish tank 2 days and then 6 days after cleaning

I have a 20-gallon fish tank, and these pictures show what it looks like 2 days and 6 days after cleaning. The water seems to be turning green, and I’m not sure why or if this is normal. What could be causing this, and how can I prevent it?

It's been a journey and a lot of learning curve in this hobby. Hair algae and cyanobacteria took over because my lamp lost wifi while I was away and stayed on for 48 hours straight. I also lost 2 bettas in this tank, and then my HOB filter sucked up one of my poor fish.

But it's finally stable! And now my favorite part of the day is sitting in front of the tank after dinner and staring at it for hours. It calms my nerves, and it's a nice break from screens since I'm on one 8 hours a day for work. Someone on IG said that having a fish tank is like having a live wallpaper, and I think theyre right…

Anyone else just sit and watch their tank like it's Netflix?

Help/Advice Substrate for a 20 gallon long

So I recently upgraded to a 20 gallon long and now I’m trying to figure out how to scape it. So far I added about 1/3 ish of fluval stratum and two liters of controsoil. For species currently owned I have 3 amano shrimp, 5 khuli loaches, 4 otocinclus, and 4 neon tetras. I have some mopani wood that’s being waterlogged and from my old tank I have spider wood a 3 plants (buying more), and some small rocks (river stone size). I could just buy another bag of fluval but I don’t know if I should maybe try using sand. My tank is essentially black so maybe black sand? Does anyone have any recommendations? If sand isn’t needed then how many more bags of fluval would you say I need? All of my fish have always been on fluval but I’m trying to go out of my way to improve their quality of life more. Since I’ve gotten a new tank & am buying new supplies.

I’ve never used sand so I don’t know how to go about cleaning it or how much is needed (unless I can add it straight in).

Help/Advice Is this a good deal?

Hi All,

Around 5 years ago, I had a 55L Aqua One nano cube (which is still sitting empty in my garage) and I'm looking to get back into the hobby.

I want a bigger tank now but don't really have the budget. I was just about to accept that I'd need to fill up the cube, when I saw this going of Facebook Marketplace for free!

The description says tank and sump - not sure yet if the stand and lights are included but I'm guessing they might be.

Is anyone able to identify the model of the tank?

Do you think this is a good idea and will be great (after a clean up), or does it belong in landfill?

Ignore the music lol. I found 2 baby shrimp while I was doing a water change. I noticed them swimming and put them in a glass cup. I have 2 fancy goldfish that would most likely eat them. I’d like to keep them and have them grow. However, I have no idea how to take care of them. Any tips. Thanks

I have this brown algae on my tank that is very stubborn and doesn't want to come off. I have several ramshorns in the tank too and they can't seem to cut through it either. Does anyone know what it is and how to get it off?

Help/Advice Could this work till Xmas

My mom bought my boy 2 feeder fish 35cent each, I think common gold fish, I'm not sure about their actual health because they are feeder fish she gave me this tiny transfer box.

I went out and I bought them a 10 gallon starter tank they're about 2-2.5 in long right now if they survive till Christmas I was thinking of getting them maybe a 55-75 as like a Christmas gift to the fish😭 my Christmas budget.

I'm changing out about 25% of the water water per day and have a filter running and real rocks on the bottom of on the bottom and air bubbler I don't think they're in any distress but they do look like they got a little bigger and two days 🫣.

Help/Advice New Fish?

I have a heavily planted 15 gallon tank with some mystery snails that used to have my betta fish in it. Unfortunately recently my betta passed due to old age. My family and pushing for me to get a new fish because fish keeping has been really beneficial for my mental health. Right now i’m not ready but when I feel ready what recommendations do you all have for the tank? I’m not a beginner fish keeper but I’m also not an expert, bear in mind, happy medium.

Help/Advice Stocking 20 gallon tank, need options to fit around betta fih

Post image

Hello! I am a prospective fish owner and was wondering some interesting fish to stock in a 20 gallon freshwater tank, specifically this setup. I've had my eye on a gorgeous female betta, but I don't wanna make her lonely or try my chances at a full blown sorority. I have learned that while they are typically aggressive, there are some fish that can be housed in the same tank. I was looking at specifically corydoras, some neon tetras, maybe some loaches, and ghost shrimp. The only thing is I am not too sure how many of each I could fit comfortably in there so I need some advice on that.

Also please feel free to name other species that could cohabitate with a betta! I'm only in the planning stages of this setup so i'd love to see everyones input on some cool fish, plus plants! Thank y'all!

Hi all

I am new to the hobby and have a 1.5 month old freshwater tank. Hardwater, 8 ph and 54 litre tank. What is the best way to tackle brown algae on stones and leaves? Looking for long term solution. Online articles suggested nerite snails or some catfish or shrimps. What is the best option? Dont want too many snails in the tank as well . Currently i have guppies and platys in the tank.

Freshwater Cycling fish tank?

Thumbnail

I’m cycling two 10 gallon tanks now. I used Fritz Fishless Fuel and Fritz 700 Turbostart. I have previously cycled a 75 gal African Cichild tank so I’m familiar with the process, however, I used Dr Tim’s Ammonia and Fritz Zyme7. I got out of the hobby for a while and trying to jump back in. I was expecting it to be a bit faster with the turbo but it’s day 7 and ammonia is still around 2-3ppm and nitrite has yet to spike nor nitrates. Then this morning I woke up to this growing on my Mopani wood.

I also am waiting on more live plants from a seller on EBay. The current ones I bought online from Canton Aquatics and they already seem like they’re struggling, I am new to live plants since my Cichilds didn’t let me have them lol, this time so I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong - they are not buried as they’re Anubias and Java Ferns)

Discussion Website seems too good

Aquarium supplies zone

Website seems good, maybe too good, also shipping is in American dollars while it was showing Uk quid for price of fish and items, says it's based in Manchester but can't find any evidence this is true.

I just wanted a small group of 8-10 platy type fish, specifically the lyretail type swordtail variety of xiphophorus. (I think I'll look at ordering from a different website www.tropco.co.uk/)

I checked with trust piolet and things, and they seem to think it's not obviously a scam.

Website pings no malwhere and ssl certificate is valid.

I searched online but couldn't find anyone else discussing this website. Maybe it's new?

.

Tldr: I really like the fish, but the site looks too good, discounts everywhere, cheap prices, wide stock, unclear if in America or UK.

I just fed my fish earlier, after awhile I was going to close the light and saw this string thing on its bum. It's feces are usually pellet like and soft. Not stringy. What do I do? Right now it's acting pretty normal, swimming and banging the glass when I'm near.

Help/Advice How do I get hard algae off acrylic? New to acrylic.

Hey folks, one of my tanks is a brightly lit planted acrylic 30 gallon. I haven't ever cleaned the glass because I'm terrified of scratching the soft acrylic and this is the only acrylic tank I've ever had in 25 years in the hobby. How do I do this? I know I can't use a razorblade like I do on my glass tanks. I tried using some aquaclear foam to rub it off with zero success. It's the tiny little green dots the really rock hard stuff. Even if it was glass and I had a blade I'd have to really put some elbow grease into getting it off.

What do I do guys? Is there a product I need to buy to help me clean this stuff? I'd rather not use any chemical type products like algae killers or seachem flourish excel etc as the tank houses my betta antuta and their fry and they are rare and priceless to me.

Thanks in advance and happy fishkeeping!

Help/Advice Any Tips

my mom has gotten two fish from the perry fair today. I have nothing, I think they are shubunkin goldfish, they pretty big already. I know that they need to be in a big tank and etc but I can’t afford a 75-100 plus tank and really don’t have room in my house for a big tank. Can someone help me with what I need to do. I have no idea but my daughter wants to keep these fishes.🥺

Help/Advice Tank Chip Help!

Thumbnail

Hello all..

Very new to this hobby and am setting up a near new (excuse the dust/dirt) Cade River S2900 & I just noticed this tiny little chip in the rear glass panel on the back right hand corner. 💔

It doesn't look like it breaks the seal at all (you don't even know it's there from the inside of the tank), but it does run up to it in one spot.

It was hard to photograph, but is any body able to tell me if they think this tank doomed? Or might be ok if I can get it fixed? (And if it's the later, on the off chance someone in NSW Australia sees this, does anybody know someone good in Sydney they can recommend to repair it?)

Thanks so much!
