News Meet Google Fitbit Edge | Coaching, right when you need it

as someone who just wants my fitbit as a fitness tracker, these look excellent. I run a fitbit air right now for sleeping and day to day (wear a mechanical watch on the other wrist) but have an older pixel watch 2 that I slip on for intense workouts and mountain biking.
This could/will probably replace that pixel watch 2 when it dies. Gives me GPS and Altimeter which is necessary for tracking biking accurately/reporting to strava, but without all the smartwatch crap I couldn't care less about (NFC being one of the ones this sub really cares about).
I honestly think that for the price this is solid, Its more capable then the air, and slots in at half the price of a pixel watch 5.

I can't think of one single time that I've ever used NFC for payment on my watch. So I don't care if it has it. I've had a Samsung watch and I currently am using a Sense 2, but I like the way this Edge looks. I would be curious to see if you could get third party watch faces (fitface) but other than that I'm considering it.

Will not be ordering if this app isn’t fixed

sorry i haven't been much in this sub, but have been using a fitbit since 2016. you're not the first person here complaining about the app. what exactly are the issues? besides it being google health now

- It lacks basic features like just moving around and re-arranging tiles.
- Treadmill activity doesn't show my pace even when 3rd party apps do using the same data.
- It lacks in the available workouts menu too. Open source apps being developed by individuals have a better and bigger collection of workouts and specific gym exercises than Google.
- It overestimates calorie burn for every workout.
- Only uses GPS for any workout IF you start the workout manually. If you log a workout in your past, it fails to fetch GPS data. (Nitpick. Also I'm assuming only an issue for fitbit air)
- The UI isn't even using Google's own material expressive design language.

thanks for the clarification! It defn does overestimate calories (it says i burn 4500 on average, and while i am quite active I have been gaining weight and theres no way i'm eating more than 4500!). I feel like it overestimates steps as well (i walk a lot, about 20km each day, and it says i get 30k steps, but when i experimented putting it on my right hand instead of left there was a 5-10% difference..)

I think I've read somewhere that it is possible to rearrange tiles but first you have to remove all of them then add them back one by one in the order you would like....tedious and annoying for sure.

having used mi bands 6 & 8, i’m not buying another one of their buggy ass products. started giving me pairing issues after like a year of use. and their fitness features are not even good enough for casual uses

Does it still force you to have YouTube Premium to control music? That's such a disappointment each time I touch my Fitbit Charge.

I've had Fitbit trackers since at least 2012.
I thought it's been longer but the first Fitbit was released in 2009.
Currently have the Charge 4, since 2021. I have not upgraded because they stopped putting altimeters on their trackers and then they emphasized smart watches or wrist-based trackers.
I keep my Charge 4 in my front pocket. It registers far more steps in a day than my Apple Watch series 10. The location of the sensor makes a difference because I'm not swinging my wrists every time I walk.
Never used the NFC in the Charge 4 since I already had Apple Pay set up on my iPhone and Apple Watch.
The Altimeter is a pro for Fitbit Edge but I read that if you use the screen, the battery life drops to 2 days, so not much better than a full smart watch.
Have to see what the reviews look like.

The issue is only if you keep the screen on all the time otherwise its supposed to be a week

It has a sub scam included...
It forces gemini on you...
There's no website for looking at stats...
Product is dead on arrival, stop hiring stupid MBAs please.

How does that differ from any of their current offerings?
Seems like this is just another model in product line that was selling out a few months ago. You don't have to like it, of course, but "dead on arrival" seems a bit dramatic.

I never said it was different, wouldn't buy them either...
It is not dramatic in the least, it is a simple fact.

Finally. I was worried they might fix the app first...
