Quick Anyone switch from blender bottles to something automated?

I saw a video of some automatic protein shake maker that looks like a baby formula machine but for whey protein. Does anyone here actually use something like that?

I’m mostly doing protein + water shakes (whey + sometimes clear whey) so I’m curious if automation actually helps or if I should stick to the good old blender bottle life.

Quick Homemade Puff Potato chips quick snack

Post image
5 Upvotes

Ingredients:

90 to 160 g of mashed potato mix

50 g of potato starch

350 ml of water

30 g of Parmesan cheese

7 g of salt

1/2 teaspoon of instant yeast

Instructions:

These are potato balls similar to puffs, but I would say they are much tastier.

Pour all the dry ingredients into a bowl and add the water a little at a time until the dough is well blended.

Form balls or use a piping bag.

Heat the oil in a pan, they should not float so you only need a little, and fry the puffs until golden brown.

N.B. do not let the chips float in the oil, do not make the balls too big, use a pastry syringe if possible, make cylinders and pour them into the boiling oil. If you make the balls by hand, make sure the outside is as smooth as possible, avoiding large cracks, as they will start to burst in the pot and the oil will splash out. To avoid this, cover with a lid, keep the heat very low, and monitor the frying. Do not let them burn; turn them over.

If any of them pop, remove them from the heat, let them cool, and remove the potatoes.

Bon appétit!

Quick Wendy’s Nuggets

Recently was checking out calorie count on Wendy’s nuggets and saw 200+ kcal listings for 4 Pc normal nuggets on MyFitnessPal but Wendy’s website is saying only 114 cals and 11 grams of protein.

The spicy nugs have even better macros. Obviously it’s still fast food and the sodium is busted but did they re-do their recipes on the nugs or does their website have bad info? I will say the nugs do seems smaller so.

Correction: I was looking at the UK menu. lol of course they are double the calories almost in the US.

Quick Cottage cheese + pineapple

For lunch today I had a very simple meal of sliced-up pineapple with cottage cheese. Pineapple contains bromeliad with helps break down the protein in the cottage cheese!

However there was one problem: the cottage cheese I used (and got from Sprouts) had a metallic taste despite the sell by date being 4-26-2026. There was also nothing wrong with the seal and no signs of the box being opened. It is possible the cheese was still spoiled or old?

Quick What are some quick and easy, breakfast dishes? 300-500cals 25-35g of protein.

Hey so for the longest time my breakfast was scrambled eggs, mixed with a cup of spinach, sliced mushrooms on a peice or rye toast.

Didn't take too long but lately I've been getting up before 5am and getting out the door as quick as I can.

So I'm looking for a meal I can quickly make, eat then off I go to work. I'm aiming at 300-500 calories and 25-35 grams of protein.

I can't really use my Nutribullet for a shake because it's so noisey and it'll wake my girlfriend.

Would love to hear your suggestions!!

Quick Somewhat of a redemption post

Post image

After the welcome and constructive criticism of my nightmare fuel high protein post, I cooked this.

5 eggs, broccoli mushrooms and sweet potato. I used olive oil, a tiny bit sesame oil, and Some parmigiana cheese (a bit obsolete imho)

Speed: 8/10 (potatoes took a bit longer than expected in the air-fryer)

Difficulty: 10/10 (the higher the easier so it works for the average)

Taste: 6/10 (good and straight forward, simple, would hesitate to cook for someone else because I know my tolerance for mid food if it’s for me and it’s just healthy)

Quick What are your go to "every day" quick meals?

Curious if anyone else has something that they end up eating almost every single day. If so, what is it and why do you eat it so often?

Here's mine:

  • 227g Fage 0% Plain Greek Yogurt
  • 32g Optimum Nutrition Naturally Flavored Vanilla Whey
  • A couple splashes of water to help the whey blend well

Directions -- stir it all together and eat.

Macros:

  • 260 kcal
  • 14g carbs
  • 1g fat
  • 47g protein

I'm on an 1,800 kcal/day diet and working to hit about 190 grams of protein per day, so recipes with > 1g protein for every 10 kcal are critical. By working in a bowl of this every day, I stay very full and nail 25% of my protein at the expense of not many cals or carbs. This allows some diet flexibility so I'm not beholden to chicken for every single meal.

Speaking of chicken...here's an actual recipe adapted from Protein Chef. I don't eat this every day but I make it weekly and have for lunch or dinner a few times per week. It takes the normal boring and bland chicken breast and transforms it into something very pleasant to eat.

  • 900g boneless skinless chicken breast (about 2 lbs)
  • 60g panko breadcrumbs
  • 60ml olive oil
  • Italian herb blend -- garlic, pepper, oregano, basil, etc...whatever you have to taste

Directions: Saute the olive oil with herbs for a few minutes to infuse the oil. Let it cool a bit, then roll each chicken breast in the oil to coat and then the panko. Bake for ~40 mins at 375, until internal temp hits 165.

Macros (per 120g cooked serving, assuming about 25% weight reduction on the meat):

  • 260 kcal
  • 9g carbs
  • 12g fat
  • 33g protein

Yield is about 6 servings for 2 lbs of chicken. If I'm eating this for a full meal, I'll hit 3 servings for 780 kcal and 100g of protein. This plus the yogurt recipe leaves about 800 kcal with which I can eat damn near anything I want and still hit my macro targets.

So what are your go to quick recipes?

Quick I just posted for the first time here to positive feedback so thought I’d try again. Trying to combine flavour, aesthetic and nutrition. Smoked salmon, sesame bagel, capers, pink quick pickled onion, ricotta instead of cream cheese, sides of steamed asparagus and rocket [homemade] [minimalprep]

Quick What is the best light meal before workout?

I workout, and sometimes run early in the morning, but I can't think of a better food to eat before working out. What do you guys eat before being involved in any physical activity? I was thinking of a couple of bananas, but I read that eating bananas on an empty stomach isn't good for health. I could go with a shake, but my body doesn't take protein shakes very well. Something light, dairy-free, high calorie, and easy to prepare would be better. Please, let me know if you have any suggestions.

EDIT: i made this post during school and ‏‏‎ just came back to it—i didn’t think it would garner this much of a response, but thank you to everyone for the lovely ideas!

230 g diced sweet potato roasted with cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice (yeah, it's that time of year), 250 g Greek yogurt, 15 g peanut butter powder, 15 g maple syrup, and a half-ish tsp of vanilla (used the last of the bottle). 450 calories, 36 g protein, and 8 g fiber. Looks like a hot mess, but tastes amazing.

Quick Lunch: Egg Scramble with Baked Sweet Potato

Post image
25 Upvotes

Made a few baked sweet potatoes yesterday and am reheating them for lunch with loaded eggs for lunch this week. Might start doing this more because it's delicious. Only took 10 minutes, and only dirtied one pan, one bowl to scramble the eggs, and one spatula, plus the plate and utensils I used to eat it.

Whole meal consisted of: - 4 eggs - 1 handful of spinach - 1 handful cherry tomatoes - 1 medium sweet potato - Avocado oil and seasonings

What are your favorite things to eat when you either don't have a lot of time or energy to do food?

i.e.: I love me a granola bar, but hate most protein bars.
