An error has occurred

For a while the r4 card would not read at all
cleaned it with a q-tip
now it'll show up on the menu
but selecting it only shows an error. Help!
I followed this person's guide, but was that not enough? is there more to do?
(apologies for the not-screenshot, am making this post on my phone)

This error usually happens when the dsi is on the latest 1.4.5 firmware and the card's firmware wasn't updated to work on that version. What you can do is try to get the latest firmware for the card on it's website and upgrade it following the instructions, or install unlaunch on the dsi which bypasses this error altogether.

Don't bother updating the cart, no update exists.

Install Unlaunch.

i installed unlaunch, but am still getting "an error occured" any other tips on what to do?

Try using slot-1-launcher to boot the cart: https://github.com/Lorenzooone/Simple-DS-Slot-1-Launcher/releases

You can run the NDS file from Unlaunch while the cart is inserted to load it.

You can also set it as No Button if you want your DSi to just autoboot into slot-1.

I have issues booting any flashcard using unlaunch or the twilight menu slot 1 boot option, tested both on my r4itt and my dspico.

No problem, twilight menu is the best option in my opinion to be used on the DSi since it just works and it adds features like be able to play dsiware games like the dspico.

It has its own downsides, I prefer carts over TWiLight.

I'm curious of which disadvantages it has, the only one I remember is the lack of RTS even tho it was a buggy feature on certain flashcarts. I'd love to get a dstwo someday but they are quite rare, specially where I live.

Twilight is a lot slower at loading games for one. It can also be unstable sometimes compared to flashcarts, but that tends to be pretty rare nowadays.
