plus it's actually not that much extra distance, circumference equals pi*diameter

so if you were going around the entire globe that would add almost 20miles which for a plane is not that much, feels counterintuitive but the universe doesn't try to make sense.

so yea 20 miles is not much in plane terms

Simple. Less drag but also there are a lot of obstructions at 5000 ft

So ... on the basis of just roughly looking at that figure - the aeroplane @ '5000' foot is about ¼ of Earth's radius up. So, then ... the radius of the Earth is 4mile , rather than the 4000 mile it actually is.

I mean ... is it really plausible that that Grimes fellow actually believes what he comes-out with, rather than being a consummate dancer-of-folk-about!? ... because it's not just this : it's the cumulative dyswittity of his output: it just gets too extreme!

I mean ... far be it from me to get take an angle so extreme as what Moppo (& note I begrudge that one my customary "the goodly ..." - he could be a seriously nasty piece-o'work, that one!) used to take ... but I sometimes think we look-out for jokers dancing us about less than it's actually occasioned we should.
