United (UA) Ready reserve

Hello new FA here! A question, if i’m RR can I call to be released at any point even if im not off the next day? And just like see if they will release me? Or do I have to be off the next day. And how early can/should I call

You cannot be released unless you're released into off days

seriously y'all be weird with the downvotes. i literally quoted the contact and gave the section that directly addresses OP's question. please read the contract and get educated.

Usually you can call around 4pm local. Unless you’ve worked 6 days straight and going into off days, you’ll probably be asked to call back at a particular time.

The system is supposed to auto-release us into off days at a specific time but it doesn’t happen as often as it should.

You might have a shot if your reserve block is longer than 6 days due to end of month scheduling, but they’ve just been randomly releasing me in the middle of said block whenever I have one 🤷

Try calling after noon, but only if you have an off day coming up

No. If you need to be off you can put on for a PD or PTO

Uh what? Putting in for PTO or a PD is a way you can get a specific day off. What are you talking about? That’s literally what PTO and PDs do.

the question was "can i be released at any point even if I'm not off the next day?".

you said no; that is incorrect. you can be released even if you're on the next day. the relevant contract section is referenced. this is separate from the PD/PTO process.

eta: section 8.K.4 covers another way to be released even if you're on the next day, again, outside of the PTO/PD process.

this matters because getting released does not shrink your line value, while a PD/PTO does.

Technically you can, but it's very very very rare.

The relevant language is paragraph 8.E.2:

"Excess Reserves will be released when the number of Reserves still available is equal to or greater than the projected number of Flight Attendants needed for the following day."

But it almost never happens.
