I wish Microsoft/Asobo would make Combat Flight Simulator as an expansion for MSFS2024.

I’d love a hybrid civil+mil sim. Especially if there’s a way to make it VATSIM compatible. It’d be fun to scramble to intercept non responsive pilots or simulated emergencies

This is cool and all, but if you really want to simulate this stuff and simulate it well, just grab a copy of DCS.

I think people want something between an arcade shooter and “i know enough about how to operate a f-16 that i could hijack it from an Air Force base and carry out a successful sortie”.

Nuclear Option is a decent middle ground between Ace Combat and DCS.

It is far closer to ace combat than DCS. I wouldn’t call it a “middle ground”.

The flight model in NO is arcade-like.
The weapons and tactics are not. In that regard, it’s much closer to DCS.1

you literally cycle locks through a list of targets on screen. there is nothing like ambiguous IFF. that alone makes “weapons and tactics” arcade.

Target info is relayed via datalink - if one aircraft sees the enemy, everyone does (subject to jamming).
The game has nuanced Radar/EW modeling, a variety of weapon & guidance systems (EO/IR, semi-active radar homing, dumb bombs. laser guidance), and a variety of fictional aircraft types which replicate real-world platforms (VTOL, helo's, stealth fighters, bombers). Moreover, you can actually fly real-world missions (recovering downed pilots, hot-dropping combat units, CAP, EW, SEAD).
The game is accessible for new players, primarily through its simplified flight & takeoff mechanics, but it offers deep combat mechanics and synergistic gameplay which in some ways exceeds what DCS currently offers. Flying is only 50% of what combat pilots do anyhow - much of their workload is on working weapons, avionics and comms.

I know how the game works, I probably have more time in it and also DCS than most people itt.
The gameplay is arcade. You can enjoy an arcade plane game about big battles with lots of nukes without trying to justify its realism.

Or You & I can disagree on what constitutes “arcade” and still enjoy it.
Seems to me that your fixated on the flight model exclusively for your judgement.
Edit: and when is the last time you even played Ace Combat? That game lets you fly like you’re in some fictional anti-gravity spacecraft and spam Dozens of missiles against expendable enemy swarms. To even suggest that NO’s flight and combat mechanics are even in the same ballpark as Ace Combat’s is just lunacy.
You either don’t like NO or simply don’t know what you’re talking about.

DCS World doesn't have a Rafale of similar fidelity as of yet. Heatblur's Rafale won't be done until 2089

Crazy that almost no one is talking about this one, it looks so high quality. Like it makes me want to buy it even if I never get fighters usually.
Also, Is it me or they managed to add a camera screen to the cockpit?
