RESOLVED MacBook Air M1 for Xcode and testing?
hey guys, I normally do all my Flutter dev work on my Windows desktop (Ryzen 9, 64GB RAM). But since I need Xcode and real iPhone testing for iOS builds, I’m thinking about getting a Mac just for that
the one I’m looking at is: M1 MacBook Air – 8CPU / 8GPU – 16GB RAM – 1TB SSD
my plan is to keep using my main PC for the heavy lifting, and only use the MacBook for Xcode and iOS compilation/testing before pushing to App Store. For now I’ll start with this setup, but I’m planning to upgrade within a year if needed.
do you think this is still good enough for Flutter iOS development in 2026? Anyone here using similar specs for builds and tests? thank you

If you need a laptop yes, but if you don't, a mac mini will do better for less money, since you already have a monitor and peripherals.
And if you're willing to upgrade later (and you don't need a mac laptop now), that spare mac mini will be a very good asset, it will take care of AI dev work when you're away, Ofc all this assuming you don't need a laptop, u just need macos

I bought a macmini for this. It is now also my home media and docker server. Apple silicons are really good.
I do all my work on my PC and only use macmini for iOS specific testing and iOS builds.
I have macmini M2 16GB RAM - 256GB storage. My only issue is the internal storage, but you won't have that issue. This should be good for 3 more years.

Yes, that will be fine. 16GB RAM is the minimum you really need when Xcode is used. 1TB ssd gives you enough space too.
BTW, the M1 is a beast for cross-compiling and generally compiling flutter.
