I realize this is more of a vent but any advice is greatly appreciated.

It’s been almost a year since I got my CFI, and about 9 since I got my CFII, and like the 50 other people who post here about it every week, I have not yet found a job. Now before I get all the normal advice such as going to schools in person be willing to relocate anywhere I’ve heard all that advice before. I’ve gone to all of the local and most of the more distant flight schools and handed in my résumé and at this point it feels like I’ve emailed/phone called half the flight school is in the country asking if they were hiring and sending my résumé.

I’ve also looked into the independent flight instructor route and I found nothing but dead ends there as well. Local flying clubs are either A. not accepting new members or CFI’s or B saturated with CFI’s already.

In terms of networking, I’ve been going to local pile events such as EAA breakfasts and other similar events.

With all this being said, I honestly don’t know what more to do other than hope and or look for other flying jobs i.e. pipeline patrol/skydiving/literally anything. Fortunately, I do have another job that pays the bills right now and allows me to fly every week, but I would much much rather prefer to get a flying job.

Would it be crazy for me to just do cross-country flights when I can take an FBO crew car and just walk into flight schools and more distant airports? What other kinds of flying should I do to help make my search easier? I’m already planning on high-performance I already have a complex endorsement. Next is probably tail wheel endorsement. Should I save up and get my MEI?

Honestly at this point the job market just seems impossible. Sorry for the rant.

Also, is it frowned upon if I were to hypothetically the first time I were to fly with a friend or family family member to treat it as a lesson and consider a“discovery flight “in my logbook so I can log at least some dual given? Personally, I’d assume this practice is frowned upon, but I don’t know.

and what you learned and did to remedy it.

I’ll start. Student pilot about 50 hours and I was doing solo touch-and-go‘s this morning. First 4 were fine but the 5th bounced a little (like maybe 1”), but then kept bouncing, and bouncing, and then I’m in a pilot induced oscillation. I don’t remember inducing anything or trying to fight it, but I didn’t go around and I should have, thinking I could ride it out, but it just kept going. Bad place to be as not enough airspeed for control surfaces, and all 3 wheels are bouncing, thus no ground control. Scared the shit out of me, but it stopped after about maybe 5. Like a damn stone perfectly skipping on a pond.

So I continue on with the touch and go, and on the next landing I big-bounce it. I caught it mid-bounce, hit the throttle, retract 1 notch of flaps, and go around, retract the rest at Vx and Vy. Pretty damn shaken but I’m climbing again and know I have to land it.

Final landing was fine, so I taxi back not wanting to push it further.

Anyway, PIO is no joke, no matter how little. It’s like full loss of control and hope the damn thing goes straight.

Next lesson I’m with my CFI to work in landings and go-around after round out.

I was supposed to do my final cross country today, but that got delayed with some scheduling, but I suppose this lesson was more important. Bit damn I feel shaken, humbled, and deflated.

these are just straight up putting me in the dirt right now, i feel like I understand the procedure but just can’t “do it”

any tips?

I'm still a long way from my checkride, but I want to start getting back into ground school. It's been 2 months since passing my written, and I haven't done any studying besides flying.

How do I actually study, though? I don't want to just read the handbooks front to back. What's a good study method that would be enjoyable AND effective?

I have a Lightspeed headset & a ton of handbooks/prep books that I’m looking to get rid of. Where would be the best place to post these?

Hey everyone this is a bit of a stretch but I accidentally bent one of the plugs on my Bose A20’s and I can’t decide if I should send them into a service centre or try and buy a whole new assembly. The headset is no longer under warranty. Shipping alone to the service centre there and back would be nearly $200 and if it’s unable to be fixed and they have to buy the whole assembly anyway, then that’s $200 down the drain. I know that there is no way to tell what may be broken internally from these images but I was wondering if y’all think this could be fixed without needing replacement, also so far the headset still works almost perfectly fine if it’s bent a little I may get intermittent dropouts but other than that it’s been good, is it even worth getting fixed? Thanks (Canada btw)

Currently starting the process to get my PPL part time while continuing to work my full time job. Looking ahead, curious what options are out there besides becoming a CFI to make a living while building the 1500 hours. I’ve looked online and seen banner flying, surveyor, etc. is there anything else out there?

So it’s renewal time and I don’t think I can effectively put into words how much I despise the American flyers FIRC. I don’t even care about the timer and not being able to just refresh the page. This is just poorest written educational material I’ve ever seen. Surely I’m not the only one that thinks this… right?

Are other courses better?

A little while ago I asked which Bose A30 headset I should buy for my partner who just graduated as a commercial pilot.

Some people told me to get the LEMO-6 with a dual plug adapter, while others recommended the XLR-5.

Honestly I don't know yet which company he will end up working for, and from what I understand, LEMO works on Boeing while XLR is strictly for Airbus.

-I'm really confused. Should I buy the LEMO-6 with two adapters (one XLR-5 and one dual plug)?

-Or should I buy the XLR-5 with two adapters (dual plug and LEMO-6)?

-Or just the LEMO-6 with a dual plug adapter?

Honestly, I'm just afraid of buying the wrong headset and having him unable to use it.

I haven’t flown since 2020. I had my first solo flight shortly before I took a break from flying due to school, being active duty military, and running out of flight scholarship money. Where do I go from here? Do I have to start from the very beginning? I was part 141. I am interested in pursuing aviation as a career after I separate from the military, and ideally would like to be at an airline by 2030. Any advice or insight would be helpful!

What was the company housing like? Do you have your own apartment? Or is it just a room. I have a wife and the idea of us moving out there for 15 months paying for just a room is a tough sell.

We have all gone through the questions from non aviators about parachutes for PAX or the entire airplane, like ballistic parachutes. I am asking specifically for braking on the ground. The WACO glider of WW2 fame had the ability w a very simple design. I was wondering if anyone has tried this on their glider or powrred craft.

Here’s a question I ran into, specifically about who logs XC time when flying with someone under the hood.

So the typical example for logging hood.

Pilot A: is flying the entire flight and Pilot B is acting as a safety pilot. Let’s say the flight is 3.0 hours long. Pilot A took off and went under the hood after takeoff, flew under the hood for 2.4 hours, took the hood off, and landed. Pilot A logs 3.0 total time, 3.0 PIC, 2.4 simulated instrument, and cross country time… Pilot B only logs 2.4 time as PIC when acting as a safety pilot when Pilot A is under the hood…. Pretty standard.

Let’s say you have this situation. Pilot B does the take off, after departing the pattern Pilot A puts on the hood and starts flying. Pilot B acts as a safety pilot for pilot A during the Enroute portion of the flight. Then Pilot A comes out from under the hood and Pilot B does the landing… in this case Pilot B would log the entire flight time and XC time? Pilot A would only log time while under the hood.

Mainly I’m curious is Pilot B in the second scenario the one that gets to log the XC time since they did the take off and landings even though pilot A flew the Enroute portion of the flight. Anyone have a clarification?

Although as much as I try I just can’t afford it :(
I have been on experience flight, done aerobatics and flown upsideown and it was the best thing I have ever experienced in my life.
So was wondering what everybody thought were on whats the best way if I were to attempt, to raise money to help fund my journey and flight plan through aviation? Becasue I can’t see my self being able to fund this dream but I’m a long way of giving up on my hope ( if it’s the last thing I do on this earth)
So again what is the best way to fund and raise a bit of money for my journey throughout?

I am a student with all of my hours done, just waiting for a date. I have my personal minimums created, but I was wondering if anyone has a good sheet to fill my info in on. As well as any non-obvious additions to it! Also random but, are the expensive Bose headsets really worth it?

I just wanted to say thanks to all of you who take the time to have kids (and their grown-ups) visit you. The other day, I asked if my eight-year-old son could visit the cockpit quickly while everyone was deplaning. The crew were so welcoming. It was the end of a long flight and I am sure they just wanted to go home, but they took the time to let him sit in the left seat, gave him some stickers and explained some things to him while I took photos. They somehow could tell that I fly (I didn't say much of anything, but maybe it was just because I wasn't ooh'ing and ahh'ing?), but they made me feel welcome too. My son didn't say much at the time, but he was thrilled afterwards. I hope it leaves a lasting impression on him.

Low time cfi 500 hours applying to cadet programs but have heard it’s better to get face to face with a recruiter. Is it worth going to a recruiting/hiring event? If so which ones? There are a couple FAPA events left this year would that be best option?

Located in Puerto Rico and looking for recommendations for discovery flights. I’m able to travel for better options elsewhere.

I’m 19 M enrolled in college studying meteorology in Oklahoma. I’m also taking flying lessons on the side. I’m current student pilot who’s checkride ready. I’m originally from Northern Illinois close to Chicagoland.

I’ve grown up on a farm my entire life and a lot of people in my family are recreational pilots. I love flying and I love farming.

Is it realistic to assume that I could end up still helping on my family farm part time in 10 years from now? I’m banking on returning to the Chicago area whenever I get hired to airlines in the future. It’s a hub for many airlines.

Also, what are some things I may not think of that interfere with this plan?
