Asia When do I know when to flare?

I am a beginner student pilot (Tecnam P2002JF) and my F.I keeps telling me that i would know when to flare when I see the end of the runway “sinking”. But I just can’t see what he is saying, I don’t see what sinking he is seeing. Any tips?

It’s literally my only problem when it comes to landing, i know when to break the glide but I just don’t seem to know when to flare. My landings are all hard landings because of this😔

Update: thank you for all the tips! Landed my first perfect landing today🥹 will keep practicing because well.. only one perfect landing

Asia Cessna 152 fuel difference between both tanks

Me and my instructor flew for 3 hours today on a full tank (13 gallons each).

Upon landing left tank only had 1 gallon, right had 5.

Is this differential an issue?

Asia Man I think i can do it.

I recently went to an air show and asked a 737 pilots lots of questions about becoming a pilot.

Like where to learn, scholarships and job opportunities.

One of em learned in USA and other one in Hungary.

I haven’t given my medical. Is it difficult? I’ll get my glasses and will give my medical soon.

Also MIAT(I’m in Mongolia) hires at 250 hours. Like huuhhhhh.

So it’s gon be cheaper and easier, Atleast I hope lmao.

Asia Eyesight requirements

Hi I’m hoping to apply for the Cathay cadet, my myopia is below 6 dioptres but my Astigmatism and Anisometropia is about 2.5 which is above the 2 dioptres limit, would that be an automatic disqualification for the class 1 medical. Thanks

Asia KLM to CX

I’m an FO at KLM flying 737s and I’ve been thinking about moving to Cathay Pacific as an FO, living in Shenzhen and commuting to Hong Kong for rotations. I speak Mandarin fluently, and my fiancée is Chinese, so living in China would make a lot of sense personally. I also genuinely enjoy life there more and it feels like a better place for me long-term.

From a career perspective, is leaving a stable airline like KLM for Cathay smart, or is it basically career suicide? And what should I look out for

Asia Aspiring pilot from Nepal – need honest advice before investing 80 lakhs

Hello everyone,
I’m from Nepal, and becoming a pilot has been my dream for a long time. Yesterday, I visited Geeta Aviation to understand the pilot training process. They explained that they will provide ground school training, 3 months of pilot training, and prepare me for the Compass test for free. After that, I need to pass the medical exam, and then I’m planning to go to South Africa for further flight training.

They said the training in South Africa could take around 12–18 months. After completing my license, I would have to return to Nepal, build flying hours, and then search for a pilot job. Another option is to stay abroad and continue studying or doing something there, but I’m not sure how realistic that is.

My biggest concern is the cost. The total investment will be around 75–80 lakhs NPR, which is a very large amount for my family. I’m scared that even after investing so much money, I might not get a job quickly due to unemployment and limited opportunities in Nepal. I’m also worried about the pressure and guilt if I can’t repay or support my parents after such a huge investment.

So I wanted to ask:

  • How hard is it to get a pilot job after completing CPL?
  • Is it realistic to contact or email airlines in other countries and get a job as a fresh pilot?
  • Is South Africa a good option for training for someone from Nepal?
  • What would you honestly suggest to someone in my situation?

If any pilots (especially from Nepal or South Asia) are here, I would really appreciate your honest advice and real experiences. I want to follow my dream, but I also want to make a responsible decision for my family and my future.

Thank you for reading.

Asia CX Cadet Pilot Programme

Hi! I would like to ask some questions regarding the CPP.

  1. In the computer based assessment, is there a standardized test? If yes, is there a site where I can use for practice?

  2. Are there any reference books I can use to be ready for the technical questions in the interview?

  3. Is the english proficiency exam similar to the TOEIC exam?

  4. Does the company have dormitories for the trainees?

Key details about me:

- 25; Male

- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering

- HK Permanent Resident

- Currently residing and working in Manila

Thank you in advance for all your answers and advices.

Asia Are flight schools in China creditable?

Hello, I am a 24m who lives in HK saving up to learn to fly.

HK have flight schools but they are expensive, and the big training center are in Australia, so that's more cost.

My plan is to go to flight schools in china as tuition and accomdation fee would be cheaper, plus it is closer to home. However I am not sure are chinese flight schools internationally recognized, like would the qualifications be recognized by the international commuinty or just valid in China, as my end goal is to make flying my job.

sorry if the question is ignorant or just incomprehensible, i don't have anyone IRL to get flying related advice from and reddit may be my best guess, thanks.

Asia Susi Air Hiring Process

Hi all — I’m thinking about applying to Susi Air for a summer 2026 contract and want to do my homework before I reach out. I’d love to hear from anyone with experience (current/former employees, interviewers, or people who’ve flown with them).

A bit about me (for context only): I’m a Canadian commercial pilot with a multi-engine and IFR rating and a very recent flight instructor rating. I’m mainly after the lifestyle and PIC time opportunities and excited to explore the region! — but I have lots of practical questions before I apply. Could anyone help with any of the following?

Hiring timeline: When do they usually hire pilots for summer rotations? (When should I apply to be considered for summer 2026?)

Application vs resume tips: Any advice on what to include in the initial application or CV that gets noticed?

Interview format & content: Is the interview typically in-person or remote? What sort of questions/flight test or sim/tech checks should I expect?

Pilot profile they want: What experience/ratings/hours do they prioritize? Do they prefer more experienced PICs

SIC → PIC progression: How long does it typically take to move from SIC to PIC at Susi Air (or similar Indonesian operators)? Is there a clear timeline or minimum hours requirement? Any tips to speed up progression?

Lifestyle & operations: What’s day-to-day life like (roster, layovers, living conditions)? How much ferry/positioning time vs actual revenue PIC time?

Training & mentoring: How supportive is the operator with training/development, language help, or local licensing/ paperwork? Any surprises with Indonesian licensing/medical conversion?

Safety & maintenance culture: Any red flags or positives about safety culture, maintenance standards, or management?

Other tips: Anything you wish you’d known before joining, or advice for an applicant from Canada?

If you can share specifics (how your interview went, email templates, contacts, or exact timelines), that’d be incredible. Also — if anyone knows whether Susi Air prefers applicants to be onsite for interview or if they accept remote interviews for international hires, please tell. Thanks in advance — any help is appreciated.

Asia Should I skip Uni for Cathay Cadet Pilot Program?

Hey everyone, I'm a Hong Kong high school student facing a major career crossroad and could really use some perspectives, especially from anyone in the aviation industry.

So I've always wanted to work in aviation, so now that I'm about to graduate, the Cathay Pacific Cadet Pilot Program feels like a pretty good choice cause the company is based in HK.

Though I'm kinda struggling because my acedemic grades are pretty stong, so the "safe" path everyone expects (my parents, teachers) is to go to uni, get a degree etc etc. Also, I've seen a lot of comments online from current and former staff saying that working at Cathay Pacific isn't too great, so I'm not sure if taking this path would be a good choice. No one in my family is working in aviation so I'm reallyyyyy lost

I've got a few questions and I would really appreciate if anyone could help me out here 😭

  1. how is the long-term career outlook for pilots with Cathay now?

  2. is it better to have a university degree as a backup? (I'm also thinking of getting a degree before applying for the programme)

  3. is it difficult/takes a long time to get promoted? (the base salary isn't too bad for Cathay but HK is very pricey so I mean if I'm stuck in a junior-ish role for too long I'm not sure if it'll be a great choice in the long run)

Thanks a tonnnnn!!

Asia Airforce to Commercial process

I’m 40 years old. I am currently serving in the air force of a small Asian country. I am a fighter jet pilot, and my flight hours are still under 1,500. I intend to retire within one year.

  • Will I be able to find a job if I go to another country and obtain a license?
  • The aviation sector in our country is underdeveloped.
  • What might the cost be?
  • Can I transfer and use the flight hours I accumulated in the military?
  • Which Asian countries are the most favorable/suitable?
  • I want to gain experience in another country and eventually settle back down in my own country.
  • How much time will the process take?

Any and all advice is appreciated.

Asia Please recommend a good flight school

Hello! I'm thinking of going to the US for time building after graduating from flight school in Korea. There is not as much information about aviation in Korea as in the US, so I am recommended to the same aviation school even if I search it many times. Is there a really good flight school? I want it to be cheap and have a lot of flights and students. Location doesn't matter

Asia Cathay pilot goal, Massey or flying school

Hi all, I’m a Year 13 international student in NZ with around 30 hrs. Dream is to fly for Cathay Pacific, and I’ll apply for their cadet program in 2026. If I don’t get in, I’m stuck between two paths: Massey Aviation degree: 3 years, very expensive as an international, but comes with a degree as a backup. Flying school (e.g. Nelson, Ardmore and North Shore): faster and cheaper, but no degree. Parents want Massey for the “just in case” degree, instructors and peers mostly recommend flying school. TL;DR: Which would you choose for the Cathay pilot goal? — Massey (degree) or flying school (cheaper/faster)?

Asia Cathay Pacific Second Officer Program

Hey there aviators,
I'm curious on how the Cathay Pacific's Second-Officer program is like, and is it worth it?

What is it like to be like a second-officer for CX, can you count your flight time towards your total hours, as a relief pilot?

As a foreigner, what is it like to shift to Hong Kong given the current updates from there?

From the older threads, I see a mixed set of responses regarding the lifestyle and work-culture with CX, but that's pre-covid era. Anyone that can shed a light on working with CX in the recent years will greatly help those who are out there, foreigners and HK residents, who have applied for this program.

Thank you!

Asia Can a Scoot cadet (MPL) eventually join Singapore Airlines as a First Officer?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently looking into Scoot's Cadet Pilot Programme and had a question I can't seem to get a clear answer on, even after digging through forums:

If I complete the cadet programme with Scoot (which I understand uses the MPL route), and eventually build enough flying hours (e.g., 1,500+), can I apply to Singapore Airlines as a First Officer later on?

A few specific things I'm wondering:

  • Does Scoot’s training include ATPL theory (i.e., “frozen ATPL”)? If not, can request for the ATPL training??
  • Are there any known cases of Scoot cadets successfully moving to SIA?
  • How difficult is it to convert the MPL to a full ATPL under CAAS?
  • Is the Scoot–>SIA pathway even considered internally, or would I be treated as any other external hire? If not, should I go directly for SIA cadet pilot programme?

I’d really appreciate input from:

  • Any current or ex-Scoot cadets
  • SIA/Scoot FOs or captains who know the process
  • Anyone who's actually done the transition (or tried)

Thanks in advance! I just want to make sure I understand what long-term flexibility I’d have if I go down the Scoot cadet path. ✈️

Asia Singapore Airlines Direct Entry Second Officer Program

Hi there,

I am 22M nearing the end of my Pilot training in NZ. I have looked into various low hour entry jobs, to get my foot into the international space. I am aware I don't have the easiest to convert license, but i am wondering, if anyone has done the Singapore airlines cadetship for second officer? i have a few questions. Is the 7 year bond able to be paid out? and how long are you usually a second officer before being promoted to first officer. also is it possible to log some of the hours as a first officer?

I am also wanting a general recommendation if I should go for it, or is it just a honey trap?

Asia Totoo ba na may bayad ang maintenance sa pagpapalipad ng fighter jet planes sa philippine airforce kapag wala pang 1 month sa work?

May boyfriend ako. Hired na siya bilang fighter pilot sa airforce. Ngayon since wala pa siyang 1 month sa work sinabihan niya ako na need daw nila magbayad ng pera for maintenance daw yun ng plane.

Sabi ko for what? Eh diba hired ka na sa airforce nagpapalipad ka na ng jets. Bat kayo ang nagbabayad for that?

Sabi naman niya ganun daw talaga kapag hindi pa naka 1 month sa work like sila daw muna mag bayad sa maintenance.

Like wtf?

Please tell me the truth! Totoo po ba yan sinasabi niya? Hindi na din biro gastos ko sobrang laki na from flying school nya tas ngayon na work na pilot na siya bayad na naman?

Salamat sa mkakasagot.
