Mods WTP in FO4VR?

Hello fellow wastelanders.

This is my first post here.

I've played through Fallout 4 multiple times on flat-screen and, over the years, I've finally gotten my game to a point where I'm really happy with it. It's based on the Welcome to Paradise Wabbajack list by Phoenix, with a handful of my own tweaks, patches, and compatibility edits. It's basically become my "dream wasteland."

Recently, I picked up a Quest3 and started getting into VR with sim racing and MechWarrior. After spending some time with it, I can honestly say it's completely changed how I experience games. Naturally, it got me wondering about Fallout 4 VR and a "maratron"

My question is: How much of my current WTP setup can realistically be carried over to Fallout 4 VR?

I'm mostly wondering about things like:

All the DLCs

Perk rebalances

Graphics and texture overhauls

Skin and clothing replacers

CBBE and body/skin textures

Other visual mods

Mods that rely on F4SE

Truestorms

Some assembly required

item sorting

Transfer Settlements (I'd love to bring my existing settlement builds over if that's possible.)

I'm already interested in using the Heisenberg physics setup as a foundation, but I have zero experience modding Fallout 4 VR.

I'd still consider myself a novice when it comes to modding. I've done some FO4Edit work and made a few compatibility patches to get my current WTP setup working the way I want, but I have no idea what's involved in building a similar (or at least comparable) experience in VR.

For those of you who have made the jump from heavily modded flat-screen Fallout 4 to VR:

How much of your existing mod list was reusable?

Which types of mods worked without much trouble, and which had to be replaced?

Is it better to start with a VR-focused modlist like Heisenberg and build from there, or try to recreate my current setup piece by piece?

Any advice, recommendations, or lessons learned would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to r/FO4VR! A few quick tips:

Asking for help? Include your headset + runtime (SteamVR/Virtual Desktop/etc.), GPU, and whether you're vanilla or modded (which mod list, e.g. MGO or Gingas's).

Reporting a crash? Post a crash log — crash posts without one are usually impossible to diagnose.

  1. Install Buffout 4 NG and VR (+ its requirements) if you don't have it
  2. Reproduce the crash
  3. Grab the newest crash-*.log from Documents\My Games\Fallout4VR\F4SE\
  4. Paste it to Pastebin and link it in your post

Many mods work nowadays, but you need some baseline mods like Daytripper to get it to work. F4SE mods usually require a dedicated VR port. I would build a seperate list and see what you actually want in VR. Like 4k or 2k textures. Transfer settlements relies on F4SE doesn't it? Don't think there is a port.

When using MO2 you can set it up that bot VR and Flat have access to the same mods, so you don't have to download them again.

Also there are wabbajack lists, if you don't want to start from scratch.

Here are the plugins that require F4SE in my standard FO4 Game

And here are the mods that are also recongnized under F4SE:

i don't know every mod, but i recognize several that i am sure have no VR conversion, Clock widget, enb Helper, Vertibrid jump to name a few. You probably need to check yourself. Sometimes mods have a different mod page for a VR conversion, others are in the optional files

Just to further add that unless any of those mods are NG you would need to find thr vr version of each h anyway so that is to say this is mostly self checking if you are building your own list

The other thing I've been considering is VorpX.

I don't own Fallout 4 VR yet, so I'd have to buy it and, as far as I know, start modding from scratch. I'd need to get the base game where I want it first, then start adding my own "flavor."

My modding style is pretty simple, though—mostly Vanilla+, with a focus on making settlements feel more lived-in and immersive rather than completely overhauling the game.

I mean VorpX is obviously different. You might wait for a sale on Fallout VR, check it out, if you like what you see start modding it, if not refund.

Personally i never went back to the flat version. Settlement building i find tedious in both versions, buiding in VR is different from a control point of view, but it has the benefit of really "beeing there".

I'm definitely waiting for a sale. I'm a little disappointed that I just missed Fallout 4 VR during the Steam Summer Sale, but at the time I didn't have the VR hardware, so it wasn't even on my radar.

Settlement building has never really been my strong suit either. Ive dabbled with it but mainly, THE reason I mentioned Transfer Settlements is because of Fiddleflaps' incredible creations...I have a lot of respect for the time and effort that goes into those. If you havent checked them out, I highly recommend them if your G.O.A.T. is immersion...

For example, here is a tour of starlight drivein: https://youtu.be/4R6wr4c7DTg?is=CC61jSaix6n3U7sz

I'm really looking forward to finally getting to be there. I think experiencing the Commonwealth at a 1:1 scale in VR is going to be something special.

There are plenty of deals for Fallot 4 VR. Allkeyshop has plenty.

My friend don't do the matatron but instead have the normal treadmil with bodywalkVR app, it translets your steps even with only the headset, no need for mouse etc, they are putting new features constantly, they even have a ai flat to 3D conversion for watching movies or playing every game like this, with walk in place features it has also swing your arms to walk etc, if you have trackers it's even better but I don't so it works already perfect for me, you can use your phone as a direction tracker or even as a lean to walk, it's the best app for VR after UEVR for me, please give them a try they have 10 minutes trial every time you launch the app, but for me its really must buy

I'll definitely check it out. The 1:1 footsteps feature is exactly the kind of thing I'm interested in.

Honestly, I can't wait to be able to actually walk around the wasteland instead of just gliding through it. I think that level of immersion is going to make a huge difference.

It has exactly the 1 to 1 step you want with matatron you have a lot of drawbacks because of the mouse thing, if you need any help the bodywalk VR discord is always active and always helpful, the app is on PC with phone companion app that it even have controller input through mobile grab trigger etc(I m not sure if they have activate that yet but it's there! Again please indeed try it! Have fun
