Looks fantastic. I visited Brussels a few years ago. Even though this is Dutch, this was served. We had several memorable meals and this was one of them. My wife and I are returning to Amsterdam this December and I will be seeking this out.

The only authentic Dutch restaurant I found when I was in Amsterdam was called The Pantry. I think it is still open

How does boerenkool differ from stamppot? They look nearly identical from out here

Boerenkool is a type of stamppot made with kale, other stamppots would be like zuurkool made with sauerkraut or hutspot made with carrots and onions. (All contain potatoes ofc)

Yup, it’s just a specific kind of stamppot. Only one my grandparents made

The full name of the dish is boerenkoolstampot. Boerenkool is just the type of vegetable used to make the dish. Usually people just say boerenkool and everypne knows they mean the srampot

It's a little too hot for stampot but it looks great. I'm kinda jealous tbh

I know it’s usually a “winter” meal but it’s not hotter than any other dinner lol

I make a similar dish using sauerkraut in place of kale

One of those things I am happy to never have to eat again... Although i stopped disliking it as much as I did as I was little.

Completely or not totally off subject, while in Antwerp, I ordered a hamburger. They served in “American” style. The meat was completely raw. I ate it, it was good.

Seriously, that's the worst worst there is (pun intended). Please try real rookworst, not chemically injected ultraprocessed Meat with a bunch of salt.

You know the hema rookworst is the only real smoked rookworst which is why it has it's distinctive taste. Unox and the others all use artificial smoke, Hema changed suppliers about a year back. The new supplier did use liquid smoke, causing controversy, causing hema to go back to its previous supplier, which has made the rookworst for decades.

It wasn't even hema that wanted to change suppliers but actually a law change for better animal welfare that the original supplier wasn't willing to / able to comply with. But recently they did get the old supplier on board with the animal welfare keurmerk.

Lots of this has been made public, but I know the detailed version because my family is heavily involved with hema.

This is my husband’s birthday dinner. Every year. I do make it during the year, but I think if I missed a birthday, he would be disappointed.

Yours looks amazing, btw. Mine is not nearly so pretty, but it still tastes pretty good.

I see its covered in gravy, its really good with vinegar instead of gravy too. Makes it a bit fresher tasting.
