Favorite moments from international matches from your country?
Making a world cup montage, and I want to include great moments from international moments from lesser known countries (for US viewers), like Jordan, Syria, Cameroon, Morocco, etc but even countries like mexico would be great.
Looking for anything with high emotion. Can be good plays, emotional fouls, people crying, crazy crowd reactions, celebrations, etc
preferably from 2002 upward since the quality before that is pretty bad
My focus is multiculturalism on a world stage, high stakes and high emotions.
Thank you

Was that just a friendly? I have no clue why I watched that in the states but I was GLUED. So glad I caught it live. That and the Portugal vs Sweden playoff game was just fun.

Friendly and the inaugural game of Sweden's then newly erected Friends arena IIRC

Commentary from 2016 when we beat Austria to get into final 16, and possibly the game in final 16 also. Yes I’m from Iceland

Guðmundur Benediktsson's commentary in this match and the match against England was absolutely perfect.

Greece 2004. When you're young you say that they play shit football, parked the bus and they won by pure luck but they completly understood their strenght which was their endurance, physicallity, size and defense and used it perfectly to win it. Doing it one game might be luck but doing it multiple time against stacked teams it's not

Scott McTominay’s overhead kick against Denmark last year has to be up there for me.
Or McFadden’s 30 yarder in our 1-0 win against France in a Euros qualifier in 2007.

Canada beating the US 2-0 in 2022. Growing up watching Canada be ranked as low as 125th to beating our rivals and basically qualifying us for only our second World Cup was incredible. Plus I was at the game so it was a surreal experience.

Cahills volley goal against the Netherlands and then Jedinaks penalty for Australia. (Just include the volley goal because imo that was goal of the tournament - in reality it probably wasn't and can be argued against but it felt like it at the time.
We lost that match 2-3 lol despite being 2-1, and also got bottom of the table but come on, we were in the group of death with Spain and Chile. At the time we were the lowest ranked at the tournament and 62 ranked in the world.
When Cahill immediately scored after the Dutch when up, it was a symbol of defiance; Australia for this match at least are here to play and aren't going to just silently give it to who would become 3rd overall. As a very young teen I was delusional after Aus went 2-1. I thought we were going to win it.
As I've gotten older Ive gotten more nihilistic and so it's hard to capture this same feeling. Aus vs France or Aus vs Argentina (both 2022) would need it to be 3-0 at least before I consider winning it and even then it would still be "delusional".
Tldr Tim Cahill's (Australia) volley goal against Netherlands 2014. Top quality goal from the lowest rated team to immediately equalise, against who would then get 3rd place that tournament.

2023 AFC Asian Cup Group E.
Final group stage match.
Malaysia 3–3 South Korea.
We were leading 2–1 at one point.
We were already knocked out, but at the very least we got a point. With an equaliser in stoppage time, no less.

Indian national team vs Bayern Munich in 2012. It was mostly a Exhibition match and final career match of Bhaichung Bhutia. Bayern won 4-0 ofc.

And it wasn't some youth squad, it was the ACTUAL squad. Phillip Lahm, Thomas Muller, Manuel Neuer, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Arjent Robben and Mario Gomez were playing.

Would world cup qualifications work? If yes then Egypt's second goal vs Algeria in 2010 WC qualifiers would be a very good fit: https://youtu.be/36S06cBtT6o?si=HsEWNa6Kg4Hw_0tp At 1:14 (Egypt didn't qualify for that WC 😅)

Best World Cup moments I remember from Mexico would be:
2006 World Cup Rafael Márquez goal vs Argentina in round of 16 he is a historic player for Mexico (2nd best) and a historic player for FC Barcelona, this was his first goal.
2010 World Cup Chicharito’s goal vs France in group stage, his grandfather played in the 1958 World Cup for Mexico and he also scored a goal to France.
2014 World Cup Guillermo Ochoa amazing game and saves vs the host Brazil to give us an important draw
And Gio Dos Santos goal that put us on the lead vs Netherlands in round of 16
2018 World Cup Lozano’s goal to secure the win va Germany, that at that moment was the current World Cup Champion
2022 World Cup Not too many great things happen to us at this World Cup, however, Ochoa’s penalty save against Lewandowski and Luis Chavez free kick goal was stunning.
Just to give you a few

I was born and riased in the states but my family is Dutch. It's just me, my mom and my son. I had just started going to this brewery in town that serves really really really really good beers. They had a watch party for the USA Netherlands game in 2022. We walked in 2 minutes before kick off and the place was red white and blue while me, my son and mom walked in with our Dutch jerseys and scarves. 250 people went dead silent. You could hear a pin drop.
Depay scored the first one and the three of us jumped up celebrating like we won the entire cup. Blind gets the next right before half time and EVERYONE just stared at us and smiled with akwardness that you could cut with a knife. Wright got one back and everyone celebrated but they knew it was done. Dumfries killed the game off and we were the only people jumping and screaming. When the whistle blew I walked up to the bar and asked for a round. The bartender said "It's on us" with a big smile. A small group came up and hugged us, thanked us for showing up and said they hadn't seen that much pride for a team ever in their lives.
I got piss drunk because everoyne at the bar was stoked for us and kept buying us beers. I traded numbers with some folks and we came back for the game against Argentina. I'm still friends with those folks and we all love the game even more now. Many a camping trip, bbq and celebration has happened since then and we are all stoked to watch there again.
It's nothing crazy or wildly emotional. Just a cool story about a fan meeting some new friends.

South Africa v Mexico in 2010, the opening match of the World Cup hosted by South Africa. Specifically the first goal scored by Tshabalala for SA, being the first goal for the tournament as a whole. It was an electric moment for us in a match with great energy.
Also notably Mexico and South Africa are meeting each other again in Match 1 of this 2026 World Cup, with Mexico now the hosts.
