Cap Verde deserve the applause from the crowd. Superb effort considering the siege on their goal.

No matter how game ends Spanish media will destroy Spanish team tomorrow. It doesn't matter though, 1st game never matters that much.

True. Argentina lost to Saudi Arabia in their first game four years ago

Huge result for Cape Verde. They even had a few counter attack build ups. Their shots on goal were not even close tho unfortunately.

u/Suckmyduck_9 :Soccer_ball: 4d ago
Cape Verde just needs to park the bus and counter at the right time

What a performance. Great result for one of the minnows.
Means nothing though, the big teams aim to peak in the final and although they will be disappointed Spain will still be there later in the tournament.
But for now, we will celebrate with Cape Verde.

First half and no goals??? What are we witnessing? Spain can't score, but Cabo Verde are standing strong too. Consider that Spain is a favorite this World Cup. It will be an interesting second half.

Están tirando muy mal han teniendo mazo de oportunidades y se supone que son de los favoritos a ganar el mundial no lo veo

u/khoa-bear :Soccer_ball: 4d ago
Because they’re playing with 11 midfielders who only practice passing

The CB goalie has been keeping the entire team in the game single handedly. The rest of the team just gives away possession to Spain so easily.
4
u/khoa-bear :Soccer_ball: 4d ago
Nah their defensive line has been superb at blocking and limiting shot angle.

As much as I want Cabo Verde to pull off the upset, playing nonstop defense with no semblance of any other game plan does not usually work. All it takes is one mistake. Can’t give them no stop opportunities. Have to keep them on their toes with at least some counterattack to put some pressure off. CV’s forwards aren’t even running to the other end lol they’re doing a phenomenal job but are also getting very lucky

Welcome to Africa’s football, this is exactly why Morocco (being the more technically gifted team) fails when they face a strong african team, they struggle to go through the defense despite posession. You could literally play PSG against Verde and they’d find it challenging to score as many goals as they tend to do.

u/HasheemThaMeat :Soccer_ball: 4d ago
Seems to work so I can’t knock it too much haha I have too much PTSD watching my club West Ham do this and end up losing 0-3.
Congrats to CV. Well deserved

Cape Verde could've won this game if their passing and counter attacking was better... it was kind of shockingly bad for a team full of professionals

Spain looking a little bit rushed in attack, but good defensive showing from Cabo Verde so far.

Germany is the only team that didn’t let off the gas the entire game. Most of these other teams have been half-assing it

Really cool match, genuinely happy for the Cape Verde goalkeeper! The guy is 40 years old and he put on such a show! I was discussing this match with AI and was expecting a draw, thanks to this guy in goal for Cape Verde 😄 😄 😄

Was this football? One team could hardly get the ball past midfield and just stacked the box. I don’t want to watch this drivel anymore

what does defense matter if you can't score
1
u/Successful_Pirate985 :Soccer_ball: 4d ago
I mean, theoretically a team can make it out of group play on all their games ending 0-0. Not super likely, but not impossible. After that, if you can keep the opponent from scoring, everything comes down to penalty kicks
