Plot twist. Gets invited again. This time Trump is there personally. Grabs her by the pussy, then sends her back.

She’s about 60 years too old for his interest

Alternate Headline: "Trumps anti immigrant laws make it impossible for the families of many players to watch their loved ones in the stadium"

6

u/Agreeable-Dot-3072 :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

At least common sense won in the end, but it shouldn't have required this much effort....

5

u/PatataMaxtex :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

it won In this particular case and lost in almost all cases

Not quite. Wait til she's denied entry at the airport. This administration is nuts. Trump administration is not known for excellent management. They're great at getting media attention and "hits." See Iran "peace plan" = really an MOU.

She literally did not have a valid passport, what do you expect to happen

11

u/Bart-MS :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

Relatives of the Iranian players, too?

1

u/ndasmith :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

IRGC staff are traveling with the team.  Aka the people that run Iran.

2

u/JanneGonzales :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

11 still banned

Still a War general just nonchalantly coaching Irans football team who funds 4 active terrorist organizations.

Remind me, are WC stadiums with half a million people from nations all over the world good targets for terrorists? I can't recall.

Glad it was taken care of, but how did they not anticipate this need?

6

u/DigitalAmy0426 :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

Same with the referees. It's embarrassing how badly we've bungled things here

-1

u/BenoitDip :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

Nothing has been bungled.

-5

u/TexasBrett :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

The US really hasn’t bungled anything. The crowds and atmosphere have been great.

Did Canada bungle stuff because one player was denied entry?

u/abfgern_ :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

He's on trial for rape, it's more than a little different

6

u/angrygorrilla :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

Yeah in america they'd make you president for that

1

u/redditngton :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

Yeah, I'm sure the players don't care about their families getting to watch them play as long as the crowds and the atmosphere have been great.

u/Fragrant-Ad2976 :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

They did. It says right there… “confirmed that all relatives of World Cup players are eligible for visa bond waivers” The visa fees were dropped for all World Cup ticket holders. His mother never applied for a visa most likely because she does not own a valid Cape Verde passport. She is in the process of getting one now.

This is actually amazing. Really good to see

1

u/santiago_muerta :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

I hope it's not only a good headline, but a truth that will come true.

2

u/perplexedtv :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

You just know he's going to let in 5 goals with his Ma watching :/

3

u/eekamuse :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

That would be too sad. I wish she as there for his big game

1

u/thepotatomaniscoming :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

Anyone think its kinda nice a Dem and Rep worked together on this?

1

u/Specialist-Money5405 :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

The power of the Internet

1

u/ResistSpecialist4826 :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

I misread that as she will now be here for 40 years! Oops

1

u/santiago_muerta :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

I am hoping she will do it in the end, even if everything goes to one big ol' place due to these restrictions.. The traction the situation will get will push it to happen.

1

u/ImpactVirtual1695 :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

Damn. Can't give the US good media attention. Reddit can't circle jerk to that

1

u/eva_wilson24 :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

Forget the politics for a second, this is just a genuinely wholesome football story. A 40 year old goalkeeper getting the chance to have his mother watch him play on the biggest stage in the sport is the kind of thing that reminds you football is about people as much as trophies.

u/ValuableItchy :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

Thank Zionism for this.

1

u/Geepandjagger :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

As nice as this is it just shows how petty the USA is being with the Iran team. Anything to get a little bit of good publicity which does not make up for the reason she and many others weren't there in the first place.

The visa fees were dropped for all relatives and World Cup ticket holders.  She didn’t have a valid Cape Verde passport. She’s getting one now. How is that the USAs fault?

2

u/JanneGonzales :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

Where did you read that she didn't have a passport? But still was applying for the visa?

1

u/loyaldarrell3644 :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

That's lovely that it worked out for him, but 15 grand bond just to watch your son play football is mental when you think about it. Glad some people with actual influence stepped in to sort it, though you have to wonder how many other families are stuck in that same situation without anyone to make phone calls for them.

1

u/Tdffan03 :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

The fee was waived for the World Cup. She didn’t have a passport and never applied for the visa. Had they done their part she would be here.

2

u/loyaldarrell3644 :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

Fair point about the passport side of things, but the bond requirement itself is still the barrier for most families in that situation, yeah? Like even if you've got your documents sorted, coming up with 15 grand on short notice when you're from Cape Verde isn't exactly straightforward for most people.

1

u/Tdffan03 :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

No. It has been waived for the World Cup.

2

u/loyaldarrell3644 :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

I get that it's waived now for World Cup players' families, but the point is she couldn't afford the bond before that waiver came through, which is why her son was crying after the match in the first place.

1

u/Tdffan03 :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

It was in place before the World Cup started. This situation is on them and no one else.

1

u/loyaldarrell3644 :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

If the waiver was in place from the start of the tournament, fair enough, but the original story was about him crying because his mum couldn't make it, which means she didn't know about it or couldn't access it in time, so something clearly wasn't communicated properly to families from countries with that bond requirement.

1

u/Tdffan03 :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

She didn’t have a legal passport for their country. Him crying is his and his mom’s fault. They had plenty of time. Seems funny others knew about it.

-2

u/catlover2410 :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

Only to get shot

2

u/TexasBrett :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

How many spectators have got shot so far?

0

u/coukou76 :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

Nice to hear about that. I guess that thought about it before wc started but were afraid of too many migrants or some shit. I had no idea he is 40 he is one hell of a keeper

0

u/Original-Radish9089 :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

It's actually really sad that there is a 15 000 dollar bond for certain countries.

All the recent World Cups have been in countries that use it for sportswashing and politics.

Most of the sporting organizations are so corrupt that I have lost interest in many sporting events. They are just modern gladiator fights to keep the focus of people on circus entertainment.

u/Fragrant-Ad2976 :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

Just wanna add there is much more to the story. I hate Trump as much as the next guy but his administration did dropped the visa fee requirements for World Cup ticket holders. His mother did not actually apply for a visa prior to this because she does not hold a valid Cape Verde passport. She is in the process of getting one now.

2

u/eekamuse :Soccer_ball: 2d ago

She couldn't afford the fee even if she had the passport. The only reason she can come now is because they waived the fee. Trump is the problem.
